I am a lifelong learner and passionate about education. I graduated from Chadron State College in Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in Biology. In addition, I have 50+ hours of graduate work in Special Education at the University of Wyoming and The University of Northern Colorado. After 35 years in the classroom, I have developed many skills to help students become successful. I am available to tutor in Earth, Space, Life, and General Sciences as well as Biology. With 25+ years working in Special Education, I have the experience to help you learn content as well as organization, study skills, time management, and self-discipline. I am also able to assist with IEPs and accommodations as needed. I am a people person who has learned the value of helping individual students succeed. I am also passionate about spending time with family and friends, reading, and doing crafts. I am excited to begin this new chapter of my career.

I am Mathman! I have been teaching math at the high school level for 10 years. I have tutored students even before I began teaching. I enjoy the process of learning. I am a graduate of Chadron State College. As a former U.S. Marine, I completed my BS in Mathematics and my MA in Math Education through the Hybrid program. I have taught new Marines how to fly on military helicopters. I have also taught Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 in High School, 6th grade math in Middle School, and College courses.I am a professor at Valencia College. I regularly teach College Mathematics (UCF calls it Finite Math), College Algebra, and Statistical Methods. I teach these face-to-face as well as online; I am very comfortable with creating videos for my classes and working with students remotely.I am particularly fond of Statistics. Statistics is weird; even die-hard "math people" have issues with Statistics. I like it because there is a lot more common sense and reasoning involved; it's not just finding the right formula to use.My sessions are very conversational. You know when you're in a hard math class, and you feel like no one can help. But then you realize that you know someone that took the class last semester and aced it - that's me! This stuff is all fresh in my mind and I know what they're looking for and what they're trying to say. I'm here to help.
I am currently working towards a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics from Chadron State College. I have been tutoring for several years and have working with students from elementary to high school.I often find myself saying that the only thing I love more than Math are people who hate Math. I have failed Math classes before and struggled with difficult topics and found my way through. I understand that Math is often the most difficult, confusing, and most frustrating subject for most people.Half of succeeding in Math is knowledge, but the other half is pure confidence. I am a graduate of Arizona State University and Chadron State College. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Education, and a Middle Grades Endorsement in both math and English. I recently retired from full time classroom teaching after 31 years, most of those in middle school math, but I have taught a wide range of levels of mathematics. I have worked with Varsity Tutors since September 2024 and love connecting one on one with students! I am a firm believer in a quality education for ALL students and that often requires a one on one approach. I also work for Pearson Education and evaluate up and coming student teachers.
I went to college at Chadron State College in Nebraska. Then I was a classroom teacher for 7 years in Alaska. I have experience with elementary and middle school students. In my most recent years in the classroom, I worked in a district that put a heave emphasis on reading interventions so I was able to put considerable effort towards my reading instruction. I also LOVE teaching math concepts through the use of hands on materials and real world applications. I enjoy working with all students in all subject areas. Some of my favorite areas to work with students in are reading, math, and social studies. School was not always easy for me so helping students to avoid the struggles that I went through is very motivating for me. For now I am a stay at home mom, but someday I will return to the classroom as an elementary school teacher until I finish my master's degree in administration when I hope to obtain a job as a principal or activities director.
