I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.

I am excited to be home and help fellow straphangers on their educational paths! My largest wealth of tutoring experience is in foreign languages--particularly French--but I also feel very comfortable editing essays of any kind and working through standardized test concepts. I am a Rice University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Sciences and a minor in Spanish. In the fall, I plan on beginning a master's in Human-Computer Interaction at University College London. I have extensive experience helping students with Math, Writing, Spanish, and the ACT. My primary goal as a tutor is to develop increased academic confidence and independent problem solving skills. I'm Scotty! I am currently a senior at Harvard College pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a secondary (minor) in Theater, Dance, and Media. I know full well that struggling with course material is tricky to navigate; I have not always felt comfortable going straight to the professor or teacher to ask for help. That's why I love tutoring - I aim to be a helpful resource for students, blending the toughness of a coach with the warmth and comfort of a friend to provide the best atmosphere for those I tutor.
I'm currently a fourth year medical student at a private medical school in Texas. I've been involved with tutoring since middle school continuing all the way through medical school. There are so many different ways to teach based on how students learn best and I am passionate about meeting the individual needs of students so they can succeed. I took unconventional approaches to learning as instilled by mentors throughout my life that greatly increased my ability to learn and comprehend material . I went to high school at the Downingtown STEM Academy and graduated May 2018 from the University of Alabama with a 4.2. I have a BS in Biology with minors in Social Work and Social Welfare. I will be graduating with an MD and MPH in May 2022. I tutor english, math, geometry, algebra, SAT, ACT, MCAT, USMLE chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, and writing along with other subjects. I've worked with rural students in Alabama, students in the Greater Philadelphia area, and students in urban areas. I believe education should be personalized and while schools can't provide this due to lack of resources, tutors are a great substitute for that. Education is the gateway to social mobility and happiness and I seek to prepare my student to meet their individual goals. I work to create an environment where the student can focus on understanding the material for their own understanding and not for others which significantly increases the students confidence in the subject matter and their desire to learn more.
I am a cultural anthropologist by trade, but have more than five years of experience teaching a wide arrange of topics in the social sciences and language studies. I have taught and tutored students in countries like Colombia, Mexico, Germany, Canada and the United States, but I have been able to travel and engage with learners with an even wider arrange of culturally diverse backgrounds. I myself am Colombian, bilingual, and a believer in an approach to teaching that prioritizes informed conversation and dialogue, while encouraging critical thinking and gaining skills that will be useful in futural professional and academic fields.

I earned my PhD in sociology at Columbia University, where I also worked as an instructor, at the School of International and Public Affairs. I am proficient in SPSS, Stata, APA formatting, and research methods for the behavioral sciences. I have limited exposure and experience with R and MATLAB.

I am a book author and cultural anthropologist with college classroom teaching experience in the social sciences. I'm a computer and social scientist. I hold graduate degrees from Columbia University and the University of Chicago and earned my bachelor's at the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to teaching at the undergraduate level, I research ways the natural sciences can be used to advance the study of anthropology and history. I am currently completing my PhD.
I am a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Neuroscience, a minor in Sociology, and a certificate in French language.
