My reason for teaching is simple: to propel those around me to achieve their maximum potential. My life experiences has taught me that academic success not only comes from the self but also from the support received by others. The best academic support one can have is a person who is willing to be there to help you grow and learn. I want to be that person for all of my students and I strive to be that person every day. Allow me to be the support, tutor, and mentor your child deserves.

Reflecting upon my past educational experiences, I have always appreciated instructors who have taken a personal and individualistic approach. Life is about more than immediate education, and an instructor who could encourage and motivate me to work hard on my own accord were the ones I remembered the most. As an academic tutor, I aim to not only provide excellent quality tutoring and improve scores, but also to connect with the student and improve other equally important qualities such as personal motivation and critical thinking skills. It is my personal belief that after a solid knowledge foundation, critical thinking and self motivation are the two qualities that set someone apart from a great student to an exceptional one. My teaching and tutoring background extends through all ages from very young children to college aged students. The majority of my experience derives from my dance background, first as a substitute dance teacher and then as a frequent choreographer in college. I have also had experience as a peer tutor in several subjects in high school. I thoroughly enjoy working with students of all ages, and my highly diversified background allows me to adapt easily to new people. I am a graduate from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing and minoring in Design.I believe in a firm but encouraging and confidence-building teaching style and my ability to motivate others and provide a support system for students make me confident in the significant contribution I can bring to Varsity Tutors as an Academic Tutor.

I love being a facilitator of knowledge and helping students become independent learners. I think that seeking help where you are not clear is an important part of the independent learning process and it helps build confidence. I enjoy being part of that process of helping someone become more confident in what they are learning.I have an MBA from the University of Akron where I majored in Finance as a Fulbright scholar. I graduated in the top 15 percent of my graduating class with Financial Management Association honors. I love helping others learn and sharing my knowledge with them. During my time at the University of Akron I was president of the Fulbright Student Association. I also served as secretary of the Cross-Cultural Student Association. I love working with people from different parts of the world. I tutored students privately during my time in graduate school. My focus is on Corporate Finance. Some of my favourite subjects are the theory of the firm, portfolio theory (capital allocation to risky assets, optimal risky portfolios, risk and return); the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM); security analysis (macroeconomic and industry analysis, equity valuation models and financial statement analysis).I currently work as an analyst at a small business development agency. Some of my hobbies include hiking, travelling, long distance biking and burning the dance floor to some salsa or bachata beats. If you cannot find me doing any of the above, then you are most likely to find me baking a pie at my best friend's bakery downtown. I cannot declare myself a foodie but when I travel to other cities, I think the best way to explore is by eating my way through the entire city and then burning off the calories by walking through museums and galleries. One of my side gigs during graduate school was modelling and acting. The skills that I learnt during those days helped me learn how to adapt to my students' learning methods and adjust my teaching style from one student to the next. I love to start off a tutoring session by hearing out the student and what their background is. This helps me gauge how much scope we have to cover to have the student fully confident in the subject matter. I always encourage students to come prepared with questions including the so-called "silly questions because those are, more often than not, the breakthrough questions that help students piece everything together.

I have had the opportunity to work with a broadrange of individuals, fromchildren to adults. For example, in the course ofteaching one semester (Sixth-grade) while at St. Helen's Catholic School (Southgate, CA) in theLos Angeles, California area, I had the opportunity to interact withchildren ofmanyethnic backgrounds. Later on Iworked for Professional Tutors of America asan Academic Tutor (Yorba Linda, CA). I was also employed by a local tutoring center, more specifically, The Enrichment Center II (La Habra, CA), to mentiona few of the positions whichI have held within the education sector. I am hoping to tutor abroad rangeof individuals. It is my feeling, that one must offer a student choices, versus dictates or commandments, in terms of what they must or must not do, within the context of the learning environment. The student will thereby become more motivated to learn, his or her own, respective subject matter at hand. An instructor should anticipate great things from all of his students, irrespective of a student's talents and abilities. Each student should be treated as an individual, since each learner engages in learning, in his or her own, individual manner. A cookie-cutter approach to teaching, should be eschewed. Finally, learning should be deemed a lifelong pursuit; it should be my role as an academic tutor/educator, to ignite a greater measure of passion, for learning, within the hearts of my students, both present and future.

I graduated from Cornell University in May 2011 with a B.A. in Mathematics. I am currently a Mathematics Ph.D. student at the City University of New York Graduate Center. I have been teaching and tutoring since middle school, where I started helping my friends with their homework. I tutored privately throughout high school, teaching subjects such as algebra, geometry, calculus, biology, and physics. At Cornell, I was a tutor in the Math Support Center, a walk-in tutoring service for all areas of math. In addition, I was a calculus course assistant, running problem-solving sessions. During the summer of 2011 I taught a five-week SAT Math prep course to rising high school juniors.I usually mold my teaching methods to fit the needs of my students. I believe the key to tutoring is to help the student have an "Aha!" moment, when a previously misunderstood concept suddenly makes sense. Such moments give students a real sense of confidence in themselves and agency in their learning, as their hard work has paid off. Because of this, when teaching I aim to get my students to come to conclusions themselves, instead of giving them the answers. My main academic interest is mathematics, specifically algebra and algebraic geometry. I also have a passion for learning about physics and history (mainly European history). In my spare time I like reading, listening to music, jogging, and exploring New York City.

I am a graduate of Chadron State College. As a former U.S. Marine, I completed my BS in Mathematics and my MA in Math Education through the Hybrid program. I have taught new Marines how to fly on military helicopters. I have also taught Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 in High School, 6th grade math in Middle School, and College courses.I am a professor at Valencia College. I regularly teach College Mathematics (UCF calls it Finite Math), College Algebra, and Statistical Methods. I teach these face-to-face as well as online; I am very comfortable with creating videos for my classes and working with students remotely.I am particularly fond of Statistics. Statistics is weird; even die-hard "math people" have issues with Statistics. I like it because there is a lot more common sense and reasoning involved; it's not just finding the right formula to use.My sessions are very conversational. You know when you're in a hard math class, and you feel like no one can help. But then you realize that you know someone that took the class last semester and aced it - that's me! This stuff is all fresh in my mind and I know what they're looking for and what they're trying to say. I'm here to help.
