German 2 Tutoring FAQ
All language courses become increasingly difficult with the passage of time, but each language has its own particular difficulties. As you begin to develop a greater understanding of the German language, you will be required to know a wider range of grammar structures, as well as understand the nuances built into a number of words. In addition to the increasing complexity of phrases and conversations being taught in German 2, this class will begin to expose students to more of the intricacies of the German language. German 2 coursework will also focus on more complex forms of vocabulary constructions that characterize the German language as it is used in real conversations among those who are native speakers of the language. It is crucial that you give yourself the tools to perform at your best during this critical stage of your German studies. For many students, learning a second language isn't a process that comes easily. It requires a lot of practice, hours of memorization, and demands that one tries to immerse themselves in the culture. If you are not getting the engagement needed through your self-study or classroom exercises, you should consider working with a private tutor so that you can reach fluency in German 2.
If you wish to take your language education above and beyond your classroom experience, Varsity Tutors can help you connect with private German 2 tutors in your area who can assist you in improving your language proficiency. German grammar requires knowledge and mastery of a number of topics that are, at best, only indirectly familiar to most English-speaking students today. Often, it is necessary to review such topics as they appear in English before exploring their applications in German. A personal tutor is able to provide such targeted assistance and instruction by presenting the needed remedial grammatical teaching that can address any deficiencies. This focused approach can help set the stage for specific mastery of the German language constructions. In addition, many of the aspects of German verb conjugation and noun or adjective inflection are wholly foreign to English speakers, often causing significant difficulties for even the best-prepared students.
A personal German 2 tutor can help to make a cohesive whole out of the complexities of genders, cases, tenses, moods, and other aspects requiring attention in a language like German. With the continuance of your studies, these topics will become increasingly difficult. German 2 marks an important transition from the basics of conversation and composition to more complex modes of discourse that use the full array of German grammar. The concepts mastered at this stage will provide the sine qua non for all future German success. Rather than risking future coursework struggles because of an inadequate grasp of these foundational topics, consider the assistance offered by private German 2 tutoring. Your tutor can provide explanations and practice problems to help you or your child master the complexities of this challenging course.
By choosing to work with a private German tutor, you will be able to receive a hands-on educational experience that isn't available in classroom lessons. Here, you will be able to work under the guidance of someone who can assist you in developing speaking, listening, and conversational skills in a safe and comfortable environment. Furthermore, your tutor is skilled at giving explanations that are easy to understand, and can also help you can insight into German culture.
If you are serious about improving your German, contact Varsity Tutors today and ask for help connecting with a tutor in your area. You can choose to meet for in-person tutoring lessons, or you can engage in face-to-face online tutoring sessions using our live learning platform. Your tutor is able to work around your busy schedule and preferred learning style, so that all of your needs are being met.

Recent German 2 Tutoring Session Notes
Today's session introduced new vocabulary that suited the student's need for work. There were four categories: color, clothing/material, accessories, and jewelry. We focused mostly on clothing and materials of clothing items. We had 43 vocabulary words to cover in the clothing section, and focused more on the ones that pertained to what she had to sell at work. With repetition, she was able to remember the vocabulary words. Our next session will be the exam, and we will continue with the vocabulary following the exam.
The student had a quiz the following day so we prepared for it. We went over some vocabulary involving family members, telling time and hobbies. We also practiced some grammatical constructions and I gave him a mock quiz.
In this class, we identified the Chinese animals. We also learned about Chinese numbers. Then we went over the textbook and got familiar with basic greetings between students and teachers in classrooms.
Today, we started with a brief conversation in Chinese about our families and practiced counting. The vocabulary she needs for that is becoming much more automatic for her, which is great!
The focus of today's session was on learning duilian, or Chinese couplets (poetry). For each poem, we practice saying the two lines, and then she wrote them herself with the meanings of each character. With some guidance from me, she pieced together what the poems meant. We talked about how my interpretation and her interpretation can be different, because poetry can mean different things to different people. As always, she was very curious and wanted to know all about the poems and the people who wrote them. She has such thoughtful questions! If she wishes to practice at home, she can practice saying the poems.
This includes 3 lessons (3/3,3/5,3/19). I taught the student how to say stores and places in the house in Chinese. For example: restaurant, clothing stores, car shop, garage, living room, bed room etc. Today, I reviewed all the things with him. Overall, the lessons went well. He learned everything quickly like always.
We went over colors and numbers. The student can make different short sentences with the structure we learned from last time, e.g.:" This is me; This is you; This is red; This is a small cat; This is a big dog," etc.
