Tutoring, in my opinion, is a collaborative process between student and tutor that aims to not only relay information but also helps in building free-flowing and independent learning skills in the student. In my eight years or so of tutoring, I have seen that even a tutor can grow with the student in the process. This is because relaying information is, of course, a two way street and in that process the student learns the information that he/she wants to and the tutor finds out how best to incorporate information into the tutoring sessions. As a tutor I try to be aware, first and foremost, that different students have different learning styles and needs. What is more important is to try to make tutoring sessions as lively as possible in order to keep the student interested in the subject matter.I do not just treat tutoring as a form of employment, but it is something I love to do. It is my way of giving back to the community what I have received from it. With that said, I vow to share my knowledge and influence my students as positively as I can.

3rd Grade Math Tutor • +34 Subjects
My experiences in the field of education have involved a variety of different areas, including elementary level math, reading, and writing, as well as Chemistry and Biology. As a Neuroscience liberal arts major, I have a background in a wide variety of subjects, allowing me to approach each subject using techniques that integrate methods from different topics. I have experience through a volunteer organization called Project Story Boost in which I tutored elementary school children from 3rd-4th grade in reading and comprehension. As a Big Sister, I also tutored a third grader in math and science. I was also a tutor for an Introductory level college Chemistry course at Bates College, in which I was paired individually with a student who needed assistance in understanding homework and lecture material. I have also been a teaching assistant for two different statistical analysis courses at Wesleyan University in which I held office hours and lectures to help students with their comprehension of the course material. My methods for teaching reading and writing involve integrating fun, exciting techniques that engage the student in the material. By involving different methods of approaching the material, the student will be exposed to the material in different ways, allowing him or her to become interested in the subjects.Though I have mastered the topics I am comfortable tutoring, I treat each tutoring session as a learning process in which the student and I learn the material together as a team. This type of tutoring dynamic fosters a positive learning environment in which the student is able to thrive. This environment allows students to replace the idea that the material is "too hard" with the idea that the material is an "exciting challenge." I am trained in different communication techniques that allow me to accurately assess the weak points for students, and using these points as a baseline for the session, I tailor each session to the student's individual needs. My greatest ambition as a tutor is to inspire children to both find and develop their own passions for learning.

Bass Guitar Tutor • +2 Subjects
Music is a way for me to be creative and grow as a person because I can use songs to pinpoint different parts of my life and hear how I am progressing as a musician and a person. I am passionate about helping students learn about music because music is something that I picked up and never regret doing so.I have experience teaching music since I worked in the Lessons Department at Guitar Center. I taught students of many different ages as well as privately and in a group.Regarding my education, I attended the University of Houston and graduated with a Bachelor's in the Arts, majoring in Media Production and minor in Technology.I mostly emphasize my teaching on guitar, whether it be bass, acoustic, classical or electric, electric being my main instrument. Electric guitar is my favorite because my favorite genre of music is rock and metal. I also like Flamenco and Latin music as well and I incorporate those elements into my electric guitar playing.I think that music is fun and also a great way to teach self-discipline because it's one of those things that you have to keep going at to get better. I personally have applied that philosophy on my musical journey, especially when it comes to learning scales, technique, songwriting, and practice routines. I am a person who adapts very well and will do my best to ensure that my students understand what is being presented to them in a manner that is fun and engaging to them.Outside of music, I also enjoy learning about audio production and I enjoy making videos, whether it be for my music, or for my colleagues' video projects.Music has opened my mind to new genres and new ways to approach learning and teaching. I hope that with my passion, my students will have the drive and ambition to be better musicians and open their minds to learning different things in many different ways.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Tutor • +34 Subjects
I was born Tehran, Iran and moved to the US in 2009 to continue my education in environmental engineering. As a child, I was always interested in science and engineering. A great teacher in high school sparked my interest to study chemistry. During college years studying chemistry, my awareness about the environment grew until I decided to continue my education in environmental engineering. Being in school for a long time, I had many teachers that taught me not only science and math but also how to live and be a better person. I have learned from my teachers that patience and persistent are keys to success.
