I am a fourth year medical student currently studying in Houston. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Neurobiology from UT Austin. I have extensive experience in teaching throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate career. During undergrad and medical school, I served as a peer educator teaching biology and anatomy and physiology. After undergrad, I spent one year working as a teaching assistant at a high school, assisting at-risk, ELL, and special needs students with the understanding of Biology. It was one of my most gratifying experiences thus far, as I witnessed my students' progress and how their passion for science and confidence in their own abilities develop hand in hand. I also tutored students one-on-one in preparation for the Biology STAAR retake tests. I feel that recognizing an individual's learning style and adapting my methods of teaching is the key to getting the information across. I understand subjects best when I am truly interested and passionate about it. So, I try to teach my students with that same passion in hopes that I might ignite them not only to absorb the material we are currently studying but to become proactive and go above and beyond the texts. In addition, I taught students Korean at Democracy Prep High School and Manhattan Korean School in NYC. I have been teaching Korean for a wide range of skill levels to all ages for many years, and am currently working at the Korean Society for advanced reading and discussion classes and advanced writing classes. I’m a proud alumna of Macalester College where I graduated with a degree in English and a prospective student of Princeton Theological Seminary where I hope to pursue graduate degrees in Divinity and Youth Ministry. I have extensive experience tutoring and teaching English in a variety of settings: college classrooms, private homes, churches, SAT schools, and even abroad in places like Cuba and China. I am most comfortable teaching the SAT Reading/Writing and helping youths with their personal statements. Furthermore, my one-year experience as an AmeriCorps VISTA for PeaceJam Foundation – an award-winning organization that promotes service learning and peacekeeping through the combined efforts of Nobel Peace Laureates and young people – has instilled in me a deep reverence and hope for our youths today. I am a current student at Northeastern University pursuing a combined major in Biology and Computer Science. I am fascinated by mathematics, computer science, biology, and the intersection between the three. I am passionate about breaking down complex concepts in these subjects to help students discover that same fascination, and watching them improve and gain confidence in their academics. I also graduated with a self-designed Bachelor's degree titled The Nature of Imbalance: East Asian Politics and Media from the University of Redlands and I recently received my Master's degree in Global Affairs from Rutgers University.During my time at Rutgers I helped assist students in research and have given talks and lectures to high school and university students as part of my work with the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights and the Documentation Center of Cambodia.In terms of my tutoring experience, I have worked with students from middle school to college students assisting them in learning social sciences and Chinese language (beginner's level). My objective is to help students find his or her own unique learning styles to help the student learn the materials better and smarter. My goal is to also teach students ways to tackle and solve a problem in addition to learning time management, as it is necessary skills that is important in other aspects of daily life.Outside of academia, I love to watch films. I have been teaching middle school and high school students for four years in the suburbs of Illinois, and I was a volunteer English peer tutor in my high school.
