I have two girls; ages 15 and 10 and two boys; ages 12 and 7. My experience with people young and old has stretched throughout my entire life, but I formally began teaching after graduating from Wichita State University. I thought several years of fourth, fifth and sixth grade students as well as special education. My youngest son has Down syndrome so he teaches me much about relating to children with special needs as well. After graduating from college with a degree in Finance, I spent several years in the business world. However, my true passions have always been doing Mathematics and working with children. I went back to school to become a teacher, and it was the best decision I've ever made. This is my eleventh year of teaching, and I can't imagine doing anything else. I had the fortune of having wonderful teachers that made learning math both fun and interesting. It is my goal to provide that same experience to all of my students. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy doing arts and crafts, sewing, and needlework. I also love listening to classic rock and spending time with my dogs.

I am a graduate of Cambridge University in Leadership, from the University of Illinois-Springfield in Online Teaching and Learning, and hold baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees in geology and geochemistry. Since graduation, I have traveled extensively and have presented at over two hundred conferences and international venues. I have taught students in science courses such as geology, geochemistry, earth science, meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy over the past twenty-five years. I have served as an advisor for students in many areas of discipline and have led Study Abroad learning experiences for students in both Australia and Hawai'i.Teaching has been a central part of my adult life and I strive to not only teach students but provide them with life skills such as understanding diversity, equity, and inclusiveness which I stress in all the courses I teach. Education is my life's work, and I impress upon others that it is critical for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all my students.I enjoy hiking, collecting rocks, geocaching, and flying drones to produce aerial photos and videos. A good teacher - in my opinion - is one that develops a sensitivity to the joy that comes with learning.That joy - much the same in the processes that bring joy of games - is to be found everywhere in the nature of the human brain; a living computer; a vast of potential of weighted logic gates which give rise to the substance of what we call learning when we - by our activities - so organize them.Even the most bizarre or inspired art - so I attest - comes from the negotiation and change of this substance of our minds, and there is real joy in that!

I received my undergrad at Wichita State and my master's from Emporia State, both in Kansas. I am currently working on a master's in American History at Gettysburg College. My teaching philosophy is that everyone can learn, but not everyone learns in the same way. Working with my students, who speak different languages and come from all over the globe, has taught me that this philosophy holds so much weight! I love watching someone understand something for the first time, and then taking that first dive back for more information on their own!

As an Engineer with over 16 years of Math education and over 4 years of experience in a STEM profession, I have developed a great passion for Mathematics. I graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. Being a student is a difficult undertaking. I wish this had been available when I was in school. I enjoy working with students and helping them understand their subject matter.
