Literature, as Robert Scholes puts it,"is not merely an academic experience, but a way of accepting the fact that our lives are of limited duration and that whatever satisfaction we achieve in life must come though our strength of our engagement with what is around us. We do well to read our lives with the same intensity we develop from learning to read our texts."

My career extended into sales, training/education, and human resources management, within roles such as: a Registered Rep with the National Association of Securities Dealers, career development instructor, Corporate Trainer, and Human Resources Director. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Arkansas. While at university, I taught as a TA for General Chemistry II, leading small group lectures before being promoted to the head of Supplemental Instruction for Chem II. Here I taught students with various educational backgrounds and abilities ranging in ages 17-65. Following graduation, I obtained my teaching license and was endorsed in Biology for grades 6-12. The most important thing I have learned as a teacher is that our schools teach one way- but students learn a million different ways.I look forward to getting to know how you or your student learns and tailoring a tutoring program that will not only work toward academic achievement but also help in discovering strengths in critical thinking, reasoning, and independent thought.
I have a Ph.D. in Molecular Pathology & Immunology from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelors degree in Chemistry & Biology from the University of Arkansas. I'm passionate about teaching, but even more about helping students find the curiosity in learning. I consider myself a life-long learner and hope to inspire others to find the same joy and curiosity. I have experience in teaching at the collegiate/graduate level as well as with middle school/high school students. I spent a lot of time in graduate school learning how to communicate effectively with many audiences and am eager to put those skills to use. My communication and teaching skills are consistently ranked as a strength, and I even have a few awards to show it. My specialty is in advanced-level biomedical sciences (immunology, pathology, microbiology, genetics, etc.), but I tutor high school biology upward, as well as high-school and college-level chemistry (General & Organic). I have a lot of experience in science writing/communication and am happy to offer tutoring on writing (essays, college/graduate school admission, journal articles, etc). Feel free to reach out with any questions! I have a flexible schedule and will get back to you ASAP!
I grew up in Central Arkansas and discovered my love for teaching while mentoring in impoverished schools in Little Rock. I went on to receive my Bachelor of Science in Education and my Masters of Art in Teaching with a Special Education Endorsement at the University of Arkansas. Now I am a 4th grade ESL teacher in the Round Rock ISD and I absolutely love it. I believe every kid deserves an equal chance to succeed and excel. We all learn differently, and I find great importance in discovering the way my students learn best so that I can help them achieve at their highest level!
