My teaching philosophy is grounded in the Humanist approach, making the student the owner of their learning, and the teacher or tutor as a guide. My core beliefs for teaching are adaptability, creativity, and collaboration. I will help you focus on one of the 4 domains of communicative competence (listening, reading, speaking, writing) of your choice, if learning a language is your goal. I use the research from Macalister & Nation's (2020) book "Language Curriculum Design" to further use a principles-based approach to teaching and learning when designing lessons for you. You will walk away from lessons feeling encouraged, empowered, and confident in your new abilities. I am so excited to meet you and help you achieve your goals!

Hi, I'm Brian! I recently graduated from Samford University, and one of the reasons I enjoy tutoring is because I know what it's like to sit in class feeling completely lost and wondering if everyone else understands the material better than you do. Throughout school, I learned that success isn't about being the smartest person in the room, it's about being willing to ask questions, stay persistent, and find the learning style that works best for you. My goal as a tutor is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges at their own pace. I enjoy breaking down difficult concepts into simple, understandable steps and helping students build confidence in their abilities. Whether you're trying to improve your grades, prepare for a test, or just better understand a subject, I'm here to help make the process a little less stressful and a lot more manageable.

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Musical Theater, specializing in children's performance and puppetry, and have spent over a decade merging my love for the arts with my passion for education. My background includes teaching preschool, developing interactive ESL lessons online, and touring puppet shows that introduced kids to everything from early literacy to simple STEM concepts. Throughout my career, I've seen how music, movement, and playful problem-solving can completely transform a child's approach to reading and learning. I currently focus on early literacy skills, such as phonics, foundational reading, and language artsmy favorite subjects to teach. By using a research-based, speech-to-print methodology, I guide children to recognize and segment sounds before they see letters on the page. This child-centered approach empowers them to take ownership of their learning, making reading feel less like a chore and more like an exciting discovery. Whether we're belting out songs to memorize sight words or acting out word families with silly voices, the "fun factor" is always intentional and grounded in proven teaching principles. My teaching philosophy is that every student deserves a joyful entry point into literacy, and a sense of personal accomplishment that follows them well beyond the page. I love harnessing the power of song, story, and creative movement to spark each child's curiosity and confidence. Outside of the classroom, I spend time writing music, producing puppet shows, and exploring how different art forms can enhance children's educational experiences. I look forward to helping students discover that reading can be as entertaining as their favorite game or showand that with the right approach, every word can be an adventure.

As far back as I can remember, I have had an intense interest in nature. I have been fascinated by unique ecosystems, how living things work, and how they work together to produce life on earth. Born during the first space race, that fascination extended to how our planet exists in the perfect chaos of the universe. Though I had to work hard and get tutoring with math, I could sit in biology and ace the test, as if my brain already had a "fill in the blank" narrative that the lecture and book filled in. I chose to major in Biology at Samford University as part of the pre-medicine curriculum. I had the pleasure of being the Biology Honor Society President my senior year. At the time, I wasn't sure I could make the cut to get into medical school, as other areas of study did not come so easily to me. I figured I'd enjoy teaching biology if med school didn't work out. Fortunately, with enormous effort (not knowing I carried the gene for ADHD), I did get into medical school at Nova Southeastern in Miami, Florida. After college, and prior to medical school, I obtained my Masters in Epidemiology (how to prevent bad outcomes before they occur) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. For the last 21 years, it has been my privilege to work for my patients as a Family Medicine Physician. Though I love being a physician more than any profession under the sun, the passion to serve those I care about has culminated in something better, and very unexpected: ADHD Coaching. Of all aspects of being a physician, the most singular worthwhile experiences were those of seeing the "moment of understanding" in the patient when teaching them. Getting the science out of my head, and translating it into the framework and language of the patient (usually with metaphors and diagrams) gave the patient power over the diagnosis. I want to see that moment of ownership of knowledge happen for the students I tutor. While I am transitioning my career (from clinical medicine to teaching and coaching people with ADHD), tutoring students in Biology will provide an opportunity to hone those teaching skills to precision. I enjoy teaching anyone, with or without inattention. The same skills of building a "bridge of knowledge" from what the student knows over to the full knowledge they must own to ace that subject, will work for anyone.

I am an experienced teacher with a Chemistry specialty. I have worked in 4 schools, including a British International school in the Czech Republic. My university degree is in Biochemistry, and at the time I had planned to go to medical school following my degree in the U.S. When it got closer to graduation, I decided to withdraw my applications to the medical schools and I moved to the Czech Republic to pursue a career in teaching. I have over 6 years of experience of full-time teaching in various school settings, as well as tutoring for Science, Math, and English. My teaching experience is in secondary schools, teaching science, chemistry, biology, math, and psychology. I absolutely love science and am passionate about helping students maximize their understanding and application of scientific knowledge. To me, it is not about learning just the facts, but on emphasizing how to understand the process and subsequently enjoy the subject more. I am aware that chemistry and science can be a challenging topic for many students, and my teaching experience has provided me with a range of teaching styles to help students at any level understand and succeed. My previous students have said that I am kind, patient, and caring as a teacher, and that I explain things in meaningful and memorable ways. Please feel free to message me with any questions you may have. I look forward to working with you!

Teaching MSA Arabic and Levantine delict was so interesting to me since teaching the spoken language is too challenging for the teacher and students as well, but I love challenging because it will make you stronger. Teaching philosophy "lets laugh and having fun learning new language or playing pickleball , because life outside that can be very stressful"

Helping students grow as writers is one of the great joys of my professional life. Whether it's a high school student learning to shape a personal essay, a college student tackling creative writing, or an adult returning to the page after years away, I love working one-on-one to unlock someone's voice and help them say exactly what they mean in their own words, and with confidence. I have over twenty years of experience teaching writing and communication, and I hold a PhD in English with a specialization in writing studies and media from Case Western Reserve University. My areas of focus include creative writing (poetry, nonfiction, and fiction), professional and academic writing, and critical reading and analysis. I've published both creative and scholarly work, and I bring that experience into every session, helping students not just improve their writing but understand the choices that make writing powerful and effective. My tutoring style is collaborative, encouraging, and student-centered. I believe writing is a process, not a test. Everyone, no matter their starting point, can become a strong and confident writer. I often use real-world prompts and creative warm-ups to make writing more engaging, and I work with students to set clear goals and develop specific, concrete strategies they can apply across classes and subjects.

I have a passion for the Spanish language. I am experienced teaching both Spanish and English. I believe that learning a second language is the most useful and fulfilling investment a person can make. The principal advantage that Tutors have over Teachers, is the ability to tailor each lesson to the student's interests and learning style. I show this in the way that I tutor and I have an innate ability to help a student begin to communicate ideas in their second language more than they ever thought possible.
