Teaching ExperienceI am a life-long learner and enjoy assisting students of all ages, with all sorts of subjects, developing that same desire. The desire to question, the desire to know that you know, not just that the instructor says that it is so. The ability to know accounting, to engage in successful public speaking, to start that business, to develop that presentation, is within the reach of all of us. The biggest thing that stands in the path of most students is an unwillingness to try. If one keeps in mind that on the road to accounting success, to public speaking success, to building that business, to completing that knock-out presentation, is that there will be bumps along the road but there are no road blocks!I have developed and delivered countless speeches, sermons, and seminars. My name is RJ and I am a previous teacher and current astrophysics student at Middle Tennessee State University! I have taught mathematics and music to students for years in hopes that they also find a passion for the STEM subjects. Aside from my degree and tutoring, I spend my time doing research in physics and performing orchestral music.

I am a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Audio Production with a minor in Spanish. I have always been drawn to writing and reading. This interest became a passion during my years in high school and college. I believe education is fundamental to success and it is my pleasure to give back what I received. I have been tutoring since I was seventeen years old and have always found it an extraordinary feeling to watch someone progress in whatever subject we have been working on. My personal creed for tutoring is to make sure the student is absolutely motivated. I have found motivation, not intelligence, to be the defining factor between an A and an F.

I love reading and writing. My genres of preference are romance, fantasy, and sci-fi, but I'm open to reading any good story. All writers can learn from each other by helping each other whether it's through brainstorming or holding each other accountable for goals.

As an educator, I am deeply passionate about inspiring, enriching, and empowering students across a wide range of areas within English and History. With over 20 years of experience teaching children, teenagers, adults, and consulting with parents, I firmly believe that learning is essential nourishment for the mind and that every individual is capable of growth. My expertise lies in various English subjects such as Phonics, Literacy, and more, while my background as a degree holder in History and an active Historian allows me to guide students of all levels with insight and precision. While earning my bachelor's and master's degrees in English literature, I have had the opportunity to give students a number of tools to develop their literary craft, and I have helped students increase their reading comprehension by introducing them to a multitude of written works. I enjoy tutoring high school and college students, especially after teaching freshman English and working in the writing center as a graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee State University. My particular areas of expertise are assisting students with writing projects at any stage of the writing process, including brainstorming, outlining, researching, writing rough drafts, and editing. I also enjoy working with ESL students as they develop their conversational skills, reading comprehension, and writing. Furthermore, I assist with test preparation for both the GRE and the GMAT. Personally, I love all genres of literature, and I maintain a broad range of interests in composition, rhetoric, critical theory, the Renaissance, Romanticism, and Modernism.

I have been an educator for 18 years, and I love working with students! Prior to becoming an educator, I worked as an RN in high-risk OB, labor and delivery, post-surgical settings, home health, case management, and research.As an educator, I have supported students in different settings and programs. I initially taught at traditional brick-and-mortar universities and transitioned to online teaching in 2008. Over the years, I have supported pre-and post-licensure students in PN, ADN, BSN, and MSN programs. I've also worked with students preparing for the NCLEX. My experiences in the public school setting have been in the middle to high school levels. However, I have substituted at all grade levels because I was in high demand by school administrators.
