I adapt my teaching style to the student's needs. I am a very patient and empathetic person and work well with students of all ages and backgrounds. My educational background includes a Ph.D. in applied research and evaluation in psychology and I have applied this knowledge to tutor underserved students in a college tutoring center.

I've been tutoring biology at Hofstra University for the last three years. Over this time I have learned that the best way to help students is with an individualized and interactive tutoring session. I try to teach students the big picture and how different concepts come together rather than give them one answer to memorize. I use diagrams and pictures to really emphasize the importance of visual learning. As a tutor, I try to figure out why a student does not understand a concept and immediately try to tailor my approach to fulfill that student's needs. I help the student relate science to their daily lives using stories and examples so he or she may gain a better understanding of the material. I have taken this integrative approach myself when studying for my college classes as well as any standardized tests such as the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, PSAT, ACT and MCAT, and have found it extremely helpful.

Hello, my name is Michael. I am currently a medical student at Virginia Commonwealth University. This is my last year and I will be graduating in a couple of months. I have a lot of free time now, so I decided to start tutoring again. I feel comfortable teaching all ages, but I have the most experience with college level courses.

I believe that all children can learn. All it takes is the right teaching style to reach even the most struggling learner. Patience is the key to teaching. I love helping my students reach academic success and taking ownership of their learning. I have been in the education field for over 10 years. My emphasis has been on special needs students but I have taught general education students as well. I run the Academic Intervention Services program for both ELA and Math in my school. I am a current undergraduate honors student at Hofstra University. I am working towards receiving my BA in English Education, with minors in history and creative writing. I attended the University of Tampa to attain a Bachelor's Degree in English and Communications. I then moved on to certified teaching of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) to students of all ages. In continued onto graduate school at Hofstra University, where I graduated with a Master's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations and Media Studies.As aforementioned, I have worked with students of all ages on a variety of subject matter. "Cress" is based on the story of Rapunzel and is woven into the previous novels "Cinder" (based on Cinderella) and "Scarlet" (based on Little Red Riding Hood).In addition to reading, TV, and movies, I like to do counted cross-stitch and crochet. I finally taught myself how to knit, too.

After graduating in 2011 from the City College of New York, I worked as a consultant for Dr. Dewey who then recruited me from Brookhaven National Lab to the Feinstein institutes for Medical Research. That year, I entered the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and joined the inaugural class as one of three PhD students of the new medical school.My dissertation project interrogated pre-clinical sex differences in the metabolic neural patterns associated with opioid pain management using18-fludeoxyglucose (18FDG) and micro positron emission tomography (MicroPET). I was able to show that distinct metabolic patterns of pain were sex-specific, and confirmed that an animal model could be useful in revealing distinct metabolic indicators of opioid withdrawal and improve the efficacy of therapeutic intervention.As a Research Scientist at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, I oversee operations of the MicroPET imaging facility as part of the Center for Neurosciences. I have recentl studies include studies of the extracellular cold-inducible RNA-binding protein, (CIRP-/-) and wild type (WT) mice, before and after exposure to binge-alcohol levels. By quantifying glucose metabolism with 18FDG and MicroPET, and using brain-mapping analysis of the imaging data, we can determine if CIRP plays a role in alcohol-induced cognitive impairment. I have served as mentor to many undergraduate and some high school students, and very much enjoy sharing my knowledge base with those that enjoy science.

I'm a law student and long time tutor who's just made the move to Varsity. I've been tutoring for about eight years now, since I first started working with a friend of a friend's child on his SATs. I graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in economics, and I'm at Hofstra Law School. I tutor the SATs, ACTs, LSAT, GRE, basically all high school subjects, and a bevy of college ones, including history, psychology, economics, law, and writing. That's not because I'm an expert in everything - it's because the only thing I enjoy more than learning is helping someone else learn. A good tutor doesn't just explain the subject to you - they explain what's cool about it, how it applies to your life, and why you want to learn it. If I have to brush up on my AP Chemistry as an excuse to explain why dimensional analysis is actually the most useful math you'll ever learn, I find it thrilling, not a chore. That's really my whole paradigm, as a tutor. Every subject has a relation to both everyday life, and to the coolest parts of the collective achievements of humanity. Learning not just what Pi is, but what it means, is treading the same ground as the people who built the pyramids. We lose that joy - the enrichment granted by greater understanding - too often in sterile and boring classrooms. My goal is to help students attain mastery by providing the context and tools that let them have "Eureka!" moments. Learning is fun, and tutoring is more than just being a living wikipedia article. It's giving life to the dry and soulless problem set, making fun of the trap answers on the LSAT, and linking history to its greatest stories. I don't need gimmicks and games to make that happen. As a Scout leader for 25 years, I was very much involved in teaching at all education levels, all the way up to graduate school. Raising my own four children also involved a great deal of teaching. The common thread in these experiences is working with young people one-on-one or in small groups. For these reasons, I believe tutoring plays to my strengths as a teacher. When I was in the classroom, my assessments always used actual AP questions. My students performed very well on their final exams, which were full-length AP tests using questions from past exams, averaging. In world history, I wrote my own test questions, since test banks accompanying the text involved little more than memorization. I try to inject more rigor into my lessons and assessments. I never go into a professional activity with a client without a great deal of preparation. In my economics and government classes, I prepared detailed study guides both to prepare myself and to assist students. I believe my students' performance in AP classes was directly related to these guides. As a tutor, in my first meeting with a student, I will assess the nature of their concerns with the subject. I will review with them the syllabus and their recent exams and assignments to identify the key problems. Problems might include study habits, difficulty with key concepts, and absorbing the sheer volume of material, among other things. Having identified the problems, I will tailor tutoring sessions to the individual student's needs. For example, lessons may concentrate on practice with difficult concepts Many students are visual or kinetic learners, so the use of graphs in economics is especially useful to get to the solution, and to build on basic concepts, even when answering multiple choice questions. In this regard, my study guides will provide appropriate material for helping students. I view these guides as living documents and constantly evaluate and revise them to meet student needs.. As a tutor of college students, I will draw on my own experience working with summer interns as well as my education and professional experience. Law, public administration, government, and economics, in addition to US and world history are some of the subjects in my professional repertoire. Most important, because I have taught or practiced in a number of subjects before, I have a wealth of material and information that I can use in my tutoring sessions. For subjects I have not yet taught, I look for useful material on line. In general, I do not view tutoring as something that happens only during the hour I spend with a student. If you are looking to truly learn the Spanish language, you have come to the right place. The reason I say this is because I am a non-native Spanish speaker that has gone the extra mile to learn. I wasn't the biggest fan of foreign language in high school; in fact, I took tech classes to satisfy my language credits. It wasn't until I studied abroad, where I learned what a powerful tool knowing multiple languages could be, that I came to enjoy them. During my sophomore year at Hofstra University I studied at the University College of Dublin where I made friends from all over the world; all of them spoke at least two languages. From there I was determined to learn Spanish. During that following summer I moved to Spain and lived with a friend and his family where I was immersed in the language. After I finished my Business degree at Hofstra I was able to attend Molloy College and earn a BS in Spanish language and begin working on a Master's in Education. I now work for Booker Software where I implement software for enterprise level Spanish clients. Each day I am able to use this language I never thought I would need in such an informative way. Through my experiences I know I can help students of every level. I can relate to students who may not have the drive to learn another language because I myself have been there and can understand their feeling. While on the other hand I am a great resource for students who enjoy the language and are looking to learn from someone who uses Spanish in their everyday life. I tutor Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Mathematics from Algebra 1 to College Algebra. My favorite subject to tutor would have to be chemistry because of how fascinating it can be once it is understood carefully. I would say my tutoring philosophy is to have patience. Understanding a subject takes time, and I understand that completely. I want students to find a way to enjoy the work they do. The most important thing I want to instill into the students I tutor is to have discipline and patience. Learning is a process and cannot be forced upon anyone. In my free time I enjoy playing sports and exercising. I also enjoy watching professional sports and playing professional sport video games.

I'm passionate about helping students in various stages of their educational path, by collaborating to understand learning styles and developing study techniques that improve information retention. Sometimes the best approach to learning is figuring out the explanation of a concept that finally makes it click, which takes patience and flexibility. I look forward to working with students to clarify concepts and get them out of a rut when working through difficult subjects. Despite graduating from high school in 2018, I still remember how difficult it was to get through the AP classes, the AP exams, and the standardized testing. My journey in college was filled with pre-med classes and humanities major work, so I also understand the need to balance different disciplines and develop proficiency across a variety of subjects. I hope to help build confidence and skills in various subject areas from SAT/ACT testing to math, science, and English/writing.

I am an attorney and solo practitioner who prepared for the LSAT on my own. I worked full time while attending law school at night, and while I studied for the Bar Exam. I know how to effectively manage time to achieve goals.I say this because the LSAT is not like other tests. The material is irrelevant. What is important is managing your time to optimize your score. I can help you improve your approach to the test so you can achieve the maximum results.

I am currently in graduate school at Hofstra University studying in Health Administration. I graduated from Hofstra with my Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Forensic Science in the Honors Program there. I started tutoring through the Learning Centers over 5 years ago which helped me realize that teaching others was something I loved to do. This coupled with my passion for Science and a wide range of topics motivated me to excel. I have experience working with a wide range of students from as young as KG to as old as college aged students, in various fields such as science, mathematics, reading and even test preparation. In my free time I love to read and travel.

I received my Bachelors Degree from SUNY Binghamton and my Masters Degree in Education from Hofstra University. Several years ago I attended classes at LIU Post in Interior Design. I am certified to teach elementary students (grades N-6) and Social Studies (grades 7-12). I have been teaching for many years and every year brings new challenges. In an effort to meet these challenges, I recently attended Dowling College and gained my Professional Certificate in Students with Disabilities.I truly believe that every student has the ability to learn and that they each learn differently. It is the responsibility of the educator to find the best way to inspire his or her students to learn and then guide them along in the process. I like to work games into my sessions, students can learn just as much when they are having fun!Most of my tutoring experience has been with children who are home bound, from first grade through middle school.When I am not working, I enjoy movies, antiquing, and bargain hunting.

I am a sophomore at Hofstra University, majoring in Biology with a minor in Neuroscience as part of the competitive BS/MD program that guarantees admission to the Zucker School of Medicine. I've worked with students from middle school, beginning to explore scientific thinking, to high schoolers aiming for top scores on the SAT. My teaching experience includes mentoring high school peers in biology and math, volunteering abroad to design bilingual lesson plans, and leading interactive group sessions on science and math. I've taught students from many backgrounds and skill levels, and I take pride in adapting to each learner's goals and pace. Having recently been through the college prep process and standardized testing, I understand how to pinpoint difficult topics and curate individualized lessons. I tutor SAT Math, English composition, grammar, and biology at all levels. Outside of academia, I'm passionate about writing, health science, and engaging in biomedical research projects.

I am currently a student at Hofstra University expecting to graduate in May 2026 with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing. Since being in high school, I have been passionate about helping others in any way I can, including tutoring. My focus for tutoring is English, writing (especially peer editing), and history. I have a great deal experience with IB courses, as well as CAS, Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. IB Literature and Language was actually an all-time favorite course of mine, and I have carried that passion with me to college. Writing is a vital tool for success and being a great writer is a key component in higher education and life. Alongside my passion for English/writing, I love to scuba dive (and see marine life!). I also collect vintage vinyls with many being from Fleetwood Mac, which is my favorite band.
