I usually have the student re-write the passage, or a portion of it, in his or her own words. This allows me to see how the student is interpreting the material and correct any errors in comprehension. What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student? I have found listening to the student to be a successful strategy. This allows me to focus the lessons to each student's specific needs and goals.
