As a college student with a strong interest in economics and learning, I understand both the challenges and rewards that come with school. I enjoy making difficult concepts easier to understand by breaking them down in a clear, patient, and encouraging way. Whether it's economics, math, writing, or general study skills, I work to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and improving at their own pace. I'm a nerd, and helping other people realize that they have what it takes to do well in school and love what they're learning about makes my day. I graduated from Carthage College in 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Theater Performance and Music. While I was there, I worked as a tutor in the Writing Center; it was there that I realized I how much I love tutoring. I'm an actress and a musician; I love Shakespeare and detective novels and going on adventures. I'm very kind and understanding, and I know how to have fun with something even when it's stressful.

I am a senior at Carthage college majoring in accounting and finance. I am dedicated to helping my fellow students learn and excel in their classes. Along with my school experience, I have also interned at 2 accounting firms, CLA and Forvis, providing audit and tax assistance.

Hello, I am a recent graduate with a Liberal Arts degree with a major in Biology, a minor in Spanish, and a concentration in pre-medicine. A multidisciplinary education has taught me to be well versed in all subjects, including writing intensive courses.

I recently graduated with a BA in neuroscience from Carthage College. During college, I worked as a lab assistant helping students design, execute, and analyze research projects. Since graduation I have been working towards becoming a medical student. I enjoy tutoring to bring clarity to seemingly complex concepts. Biology is my favorite subject to tutor because most problems boil down to a few core principles with a vast breadth of applications.

I believe that learning should be something that students want to do for themselves, and the teacher should give them material they are interested in to help them learn both facts and methods. As a history major, I know that there is more to history than simply facts and dates, and a teachers job is to help students learn skills like: analysis, writing, interpretation, debating, forming opinions, presenting, and discussion.While growing up, I had many different experiences that helped me develop this student centered approach to learning, namely; Boy Scouts of America, Phi Kappa Sigma social fraternity, and Phi Alpha Theta honors fraternity. While a member of the Boy Scouts of America, I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. In order to achieve this rank, I was required to draft a proposal, get approval from the DNR, organize volunteers, and lead the project through to completion. Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout was something that I could not have done without intrinsically motivating myself, and helped teach me how to lead large groups of people, and projects. After heading to collage, and joining Phi Kappa Sigma, I was elected to the alumni relations chair, fundraising chair, and new member educator positions. Upon being elected into these positions, I did not have much guidance, due to years of the positions getting neglected, and I took up the task of revamping each role: our alumni relations are now among the best in the fraternity, internationally, we raised more money than the rest of my time as a member combined, and our new member process has been updated to acceptable under new institutional rules. Being a member of Phi Alpha Theta is also something that could not have been achieved without intrinsic motivation to do well in college.Although students need to intrinsically motivate themselves, they will not be able to succeed without the help of the teacher, who's job is to differentiate the instruction to best suit their students. The teacher should differentiate the instruction in such a way to allow students multiple opportunities to access all of the information.

My name is Justin Gustafson. I am currently a Special Education Teacher in Racine Wisconsin. I teach at a Math intensive school. Due to the requirements of my job I supplement multiple courses, Pre Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Biology, and English. I have done countless interventions in Math and English. I love building a rapport with students, and enjoy the challenge on solving how that specific student learns.

As a teacher with 10 years of experience, I am excited about the opportunity to apply my skills and experience for Varsity Tutors. In addition to my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, I also have six years of experience teaching Spanish to middle school students.

Passionate and caring educator who has 7-year tutoring experience. Tutored students from Korea, Japan, Holland, France and America while studying at Beijing Language and Culture University. Taught at a blue ribbon Elementary school children Mandarin for a year and was so popular that was asked to stay for two more years. Taught freshmen and sophomore Mandarin while at Carthage College and helped one student win JET and CLIS program opportunity, another student win a second prize at a Mandarin speech contest in Madison. Now teaching at a Mandarin Immersion Preschool in Minnetonka.I believe in experiential learning and self-motivation. Thus I individualize each student's learning plan and make learning a fun experience so that the student is motived to learn and explore more. Language should be acquired in an immersion environment, especially for young children. Hope I can help more children realize how much potential they have once they are pushed a little to be self-motived.

I recently graduated with a degree in Graphic Design from Carthage College. I have a minor in Psychology, and a passion for studying! Everyone learns differently, so I like to adapt my approach based on my students' strengths and challenges. I love to teach ACT test prep, graphic design, and art! Creativity and adaptivity are two of my biggest strengths as a tutor.

I graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI with a B.A. in Japanese. I spent my junior year studying abroad in Tokyo through an intensive language program sponsored by the Japanese Government (MEXT). Living with other Japanese students helped me develop a deep understanding for the culture and learn how to interact naturally with native speakers. I returned to Carthage for my senior year and had a blast sharing what I learned from my program with my peers as a Japanese tutor. After graduation, I spent 3 years working in Ibaraki Prefecture through the JET Program (Japan Exchange Teaching Program). I was assigned to a local city hall and worked right alongside other Japanese coworkers, most of whom did not speak English. Here I gained valuable experience in business culture and acquired some of the skills it takes to work in a Japanese office. During those 3 years, I also had the privilege of teaching English to 4 and 5-year-old children once a week and leading English conversation classes for adults once a month. The best part of teaching was being able to interact with my students. It brought me much joy to see my students actively participating, learning and enthusiastically engaging in my classes. With my experience in the Japanese language and culture, and with my experience in teaching, I am excited to help teach and encourage students who are looking to grow at their own pace! My goal is to build up their knowledge and self-confidence in order that they may succeed.
