I studied at Beloit College for Theatre and Media Studies, and interned/volunteered for Aurora Theatre's Education Program for several years, teaching young children how to act/improve. I am very good with children, and can help guide them through whichever school teachings trouble them.

I graduated, with Honors, from Beloit College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Under the mentorship of a Psychology professor, I designed and completed a minor in Pediatric Behavioral Medicine. After graduation, I worked at the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois Volunteer Support Coordinator.A short time time later, after my summer wedding, I left in order to pursue graduate studies. I received a Master of Science in Child Development with a Specialization in Infancy from Erikson Institute. While working on my M.A., I volunteered as an after school tutor for Brain Boosters. After receiving my M.S., I accepted an offer to become Director of Brain Boosters. My position allowed me to work directly and indirectly with students ages 5-12. Also, I educated and supported all of our college-age and adult tutors. During my time as Director, I gave birth to two boys. After the birth of my second son, I pursued and obtained my licensure in Pediatric Developmental Therapy for the State of Illinois Early Intervention Program. For the past twelve years I maintained my DT credentials and received my licensure in Pediatric Developmental Therapy Evaluation for the State of Illinois Early Intervention Program. Shortly after becoming a certified evaluator, I gave birth to my daughter.Several years ago, the needs of my three children required for me to have a more flexible schedule. I reduced my DT schedule and accepted a tutoring job with VIPKID.Presently, I am tutoring native Chinese children ranging in age from 3-16. The main focus of the program is teaching English reading, writing and speaking. Additionally, I obtained certifications that allow me to teach advanced grammar, public speaking, writing, science and phonetic awareness. When not working I enjoy spending time with my husband, three children and our dog. However, the job of motherhood is quite a lot of work.I am a lifelong learner and teacher. I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn. I quickly and easily adjust to meet the needs of each individual student and bring patience to each lesson. I see my job of tutoring as being one of scaffolding and support.Additionally, I believe that students learn best in a fun environment that balances accomplishment and effort.I am confident that working together will help you to reach your learning goals.

In my free time, I enjoy reading genre literature, volunteering, and learning to cook with new ingredients from my CSA share.

I am a great tutor because I have a lifelong passion for learning that I can't keep to myself. I feel joy when I share things I learn with others. I am an effective tutor because I listen to students' needs and concerns, and I understand that learning is a process and that people have different learning styles, strengths, and interests. Tutoring is a blend of what you know, what you can articulate to the student, and what their needs are. I seek to fulfill all those aspects in my students.

I graduated last May from Beloit College- a tiny liberal arts college with a big personality. I got my BA in English Literature as well as completed the Pre-Medical track. I took the MCAT this past summer and on my lanta am I glad that I passed and don't have to take it again. I recently moved from Bloomington Minnesota to Rawhay New Jersey. I am passionate about theatre and love living in an area so close to the amazing hub that is New York City. I hope one day to have a theatre troupe that works alongside hospitals to perform for children and long term patients in order to bring them joy and aid their healing process.

I graduated from Beloit College in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Health & Society and Theater Arts. I have a passion for travel and foreign languages. While in college, I spent a summer in Costa Rica and an exchange semester in Argentina. After graduating from college I lived in Switzerland for 9 months. There, I tutored private clients in ESL, while also sharpening my French and German language skills.I worked as a peer tutor at my college's tutoring center for four years and I was also a Teaching Assistant for 3 college classes.I have always been a passionate learner and I love encouraging the students that I work with to have that same passion. No matter how difficult the subject matter, you can always find something in the material to get excited about, and that's when real learning happens. I strongly believe that flexibility is a tutor's most important asset. I work with each student to figure out what approaches work best for him or her.Outside of teaching, I am passionate about theater, yoga, running, baking, trapeze and aerial acrobatics.

Reading and writing are integral to every stage of life. I believe the ability to comprehend passages, communicate clearly, and connect via the written word are not only skills needed in academia, but also personal fulfillment. Reading and writing can be hard for students who may need a bit more time and focused support than the modern school system allows. As a tutor, I can provide that flexible, personal approach students might need.

Current Undergrad, International Relations and French minor in Mandarin Chinese Beloit College

I have been informally tutoring my classmates in French since I began studying the language, about six years ago. I would help them understand grammar and pronunciation mainly in the beginning stages of learning the language. I was hired last year as the French tutor at my college and I have experience tutoring students in beginning and intermediate level French. I am very comfortable with the language and my experience has shown me what does and what does not work when tutoring a student. I have also attended several lectures regarding the ways in which students learn, which I incorporate into all of my tutoring sessions. I believe that my general experience studying and teaching a foreign language has prepared me to be able to tutor Mandarin Chinese also, as I have been studying that for three years. As for French tutoring, I tend to focus on classwork if a student is struggling with a specific area in their current lesson. With more advanced students, I like to hold conversations with them to expose their linguistic ability and help them speak the language more comfortably and naturally. I recently had the privilege of taking two years of cultural immersion courses at the Alliance Franaise de Chicago, and I have been to France multiple times, so I am very familiar with French and Francophone culture. I sometimes like to explore current events in the French world if I am having a conversation with a student. I can teach lessons around French and francophone film, literature, and music. In Mandarin, I have experience speaking with friends and acquaintances completely in Mandarin. Living in Chicago has given me access to Chinatown, a wonderful neighborhood overflowing with rich Chinese culture that I have been exposed to since birth.Currently I am a sophomore at Beloit College, majoring in International Relations and French, and minoring in Mandarin Chinese. I am working towards an undergraduate degree, which will be followed by a graduate degree. I am anticipating studying abroad in the future in both China and France in an effort to use those languages to study International Relations. Outside of school, my favorite thing to do is travel. There is no better way to understand another culture than to visit it. I also like to cook, take pictures, and explore Chicago.

I am a graduate student at Kent State pursuing my Masters in Translation Studies with a concentration in Japanese. I graduated with Beloit College with a degree in East Asian studies with a focus on Japanese language and culture- which is what I tutor! I've been studying the Japanese language for over 20 years. I was certified N1, the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, in December of 2024. Japanese is a wonderful albeit intimidating language to learn, but with the right support, tools, and attitude it is absolutely doable. I know how important a strong foundation is- I have a great deal of experience from my own self-directed learning and in tutoring other students at the college level. I'm a firm believer that learning in a vacuum amounts to little more than rote memorization and that seeing in context through media is absolutely essential to the learning process. In my spare time, I enjoy reading in both English and Japanese, playing video games, watching anime spending time with my wife and two cats, and doing photography.

I believe teaching and learning are a combination of factors that come together to help people better themselves on a daily basis. Hard work, creativity, helping others, goal setting, and connecting to one's own personal struggles and triumphs are integral to giving the teacher and student a chance to excel and achieve the small wins necessary to build up to sustained success.
