I am a recent medical school graduate currently taking a research year. I used to tutor with Varsity Tutors before matriculating into medical school, and coming back to assist my fellow medical professionals with USMLE tutoring feels like somewhat of a homecoming. During my time with students, I feel like patience is one of the most important things when trying to get through to a student, and coincidentally, my name means 'patience is good' in my native language. I look forward to helping students understand what they never thought they would be able to master, and I feel a personal sense of accomplishment when I can help a student work through their apprehensions to get to this stage.

My favorite subject in school has always been science. If there was a class I never wanted to skip, it was always some type of science, and when it came time to choose a college major I already knew I wanted to be a biologist! While learning about all the different aspects of biology, genetics, insects, marine life, and plants were my favorite focus areas. So when I decided to go to grad school it was an easy pick to become an Entomologist! Being any type of scientist requires heavy math, communication, and reading skills, so I have been refining my skills in those areas as I went through college and then grad school.I have also learned how to communicate things in lots of different ways, including sign language (ASL), art (painting and drawing), and presenting online via Zoom. I was hired as a substitute teacher last year as I finished up my degree, so I also learned how to communicate with lots of different aged people! As your tutor, I will work with you and your specific personality to best teach you what I can. I have used a lot of visual representation in the past, as well as having the student talk through the lesson to see if they could teach me the information.I have been to Belize to study marine biology, farms around the US to study insects, and have "been" many places to present via Zoom! I love to meet new people and would love to meet you!

I am a Garifuna American from the Bronx, NYC. I graduated from Allegheny College in 2014 with a dual degree in Psychology and Spanish. I am currently a PhD track graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin in the Spanish and Portuguese department. My focus is on women and their identity formation on the Caribbean coast of Guatemala. I have had experience preparing lessons, editing papers, and teaching college student as a Teacher assistant. I love the idea of tutoring because I get to interact one on one with students. I hope that students learn as much as they can from my lesson and hopefully I learn from them as well. I see tutoring as a give and take between the student and tutor.I focus on the oral history and traditions aspect of anthropology along with aspect of ethnography. My job will be to guide you through the reading and understanding of the work researchers do in various communities. There will be key vocabulary words and concepts that might require further independent research if the student is interested.I have been studying Spanish for seven years now. If the student wishes we can focus on different aspects such as grammar, literature, writing, reading, speaking and or listening. I will leave it up to the student to decide where they think they need more help. I am happy to do a little of everything as well.

Then, I started an intensive course of Italian at Mexico Citys Istituto Italiano di Cultura, where I was a scholarship recipient. Gaining fluency in these two languages as an adult helped me to learn highly efficient language training methods that I have used in turn with private students in English, Spanish, and translation work. In New York, I also began studying French and German, including courses at the Alliance Franaise and the Deutsches Haus, at New York University. In 2008, I earned a Master's Degree in Music from Brooklyn College, City University of New York.As a Music major, I find the music learning process extremely useful for languages and I would apply many of the methods musicians use into the improvement and refinement of languages when tutoring.
