Cambridge SAT Subject Test in Modern Hebrew Tutoring FAQ
Knowledge of multiple languages can strengthen your college applications and can help to fulfill certain language requirements at many institutions of higher education. Taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Subject Test in Modern Hebrew allows you to demonstrate your proficiency in the language to your top-ranked college or university programs. The exam consists of 85 multiple-choice questions and lasts for 60 minutes. You may approach this exam with dread as it covers a wide range of material, not all of which you have encountered during your standard course of study. It can be difficult to figure out how to best begin preparing for your test if you are attempting to do so on your own.
Varsity Tutors can help you connect with personal Modern Hebrew tutors all across the country who can help you learn what you need to know in order to approach your exam with the skills, knowledge, and confidence you'll need to succeed. When you call Varsity Tutors, our educational directors will work with you to create a personal student profile. Personal instruction is one of the most effective methods of learning a new language, and your tutor will take a one-on-one approach that provides just that. Through real communication with a tutor knowledgeable in Modern Hebrew, you can develop your conversational skills more thoroughly. In a classroom environment, the individual needs of each student can sometimes go unmet, whereas in-home private tutoring places the attention entirely on your specific needs and goals. Unlike group-based methods of study, sessions with a private tutor can help identify the areas that most need to be improved, practiced, and strengthened. Your tutor can use this evaluation to develop a targeted learning schedule to address just those areas with which you are most concerned. Your instructor can customize a test prep plan tailored to your specific concerns, strengths, and weaknesses.
Whether you struggle with the Hebrew writing system, spelling, pronunciation, vocabulary, verb conjugations, the prefix and post-fix markers of nouns and verbs, syntax, or some other linguistic feature of Modern Hebrew, your tutor can provide you with focused instruction to help you make sense of whichever aspects of Modern Hebrew you personally find most confusing. Your instructor is readily available to spend as little or as much time as you need on each concept of the language. They may also provide you with personalized learning materials, such as Modern Hebrew literature, television shows, music, and other items that can provide you with a deeper understanding of the language and culture.
Private SAT Modern Hebrew tutoring can also help you prepare for your exam by teaching you test-taking strategies and familiarizing you with the specific format of the exam. You can learn exactly what to expect on the exam so that you can approach any test item with confidence and skill. Timing also presents a difficulty to many test-takers, as the test expects you to spend less than a minute on each question on average. Your tutor can help you learn what the right pace for the exam feels like and can teach you helpful techniques for eliminating incorrect answer choices to help you work both quickly and accurately. These valuable skills can be implemented on other future exams, such as the standard SAT, GMAT, and many others.

Recent Cambridge SAT Subject Test in Modern Hebrew Tutoring Session Notes
The student finally took full sections, and scored 36s on both science and math. He still has some issues with Reading, so we talked through those a bit, and then he was able to get a 35 there. He's taking a complete test before we meet next so that I can see his 35 or 36 on English too :)
I started the session by going over vocabulary words with the student. For the rest of the hour we focused on complex rate problems and solved them using strategies I had taught her. The next hour we did exercises focused on the perfect tenses and the gerund vs. the infinitive. Finally, during this last hour we reviewed her answers to writing section questions. I also gave her a review sheet for the reading and writing sections.
The student and I met for a one-hour session the night before his first day of school. This was our first weekday meeting. During our previous session, he was rather unprepared and had failed to do quite a lot of his homework assignments and was lagging behind on vocabulary memorization. He was much more prepared this session and had taken two practice tests between Friday and Tuesday as well as had done his analogy homework that I assigned. During this session, we moved on to discussing synonyms. He continues to need to focus on his vocabulary and root words, but his scores on his practice tests are improving when he slows down and thinks about how to approach problems.
We went over a practice test she took on her own during her absence, and we did so somewhat successfully. We did a few science passages with some verbal coaching, and then took a full science passage test. We will review it next time.
The student and I finished going through some strategies for the reading section and then moved on to talking about the science section. We discussed the different kinds of science questions, and I gave him a number of science drills.
The student practiced the process by which he can maximize his points on the reading section by first reading the passage with a passion to maximize comprehension, then reading the question and thinking of a potential answer. Then he either found the answer or something similar to it, or he used the process of elimination to narrow down the choices. If the correct answer still was not obvious, he would skip that question to come back to later. In the last stage of the process, he would go back to the skipped questions and refer to the portions of the passage that would provide additional insight into which of the remaining choices is correct. He would guess from the choices left to maximize his potential for getting points from these questions. All of this done extremely briskly, as the time requirements are very demanding for this section. He did a good job for this initial session.
