Growing up, I was always curious about how things worked- from cars & planes to structures and computers. I therefore decided to pursue (and graduated with) a degree in Engineering at UCONN in Connecticut. I currently tutor middle school math, algebra, k-12 english, writing, and essay editing. Even as an engineer, my favorite subject to tutor is writing because I get to help people communicate and find their voice. Understanding how to relay a message to a targeted audience is a an amazing skill to have in any job or industry.I have a passion for teaching students to be their own goal-setters and problem-solvers, that have a drive to tackle anything that life throws their way. We can achieve anything we set our minds to when we are dedicated and put in the effort! One of the things I am currently learning how to do is to play the piano, and I can tell you first hand that practice and determination does make a difference! Outside of tutoring, I also love to dance, ski, and watch airplanes! Hope we can connect sometime soon. :)

I am a second-year finance student at Ohio State University, and I would love to tutor you! I have a 4.0 GPA, and am very industrious and organized, and enjoy helping others. In high school, I tutored students in geometry and this past year at college, I tutored others in college Algebra. In addition to math (ranging from pre-algebra to pre-calculus), I can tutor students in Spanish and ACT English.I understand that students learn in different ways and at different speeds, and can easily adapt to their different needs. First, I generally like to review and explain the specific topic the students is having trouble with. Second, after the student seems to have grasped the content, I usually create sample problems and make the student answer them and walk me through the explanations. I understand that not all students will know exactly what they need help with either, so in those cases, I do an all-comprehensive review and gauge the student's understanding as I progress.Aside from tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my friends, as well as reading or painting! I also enjoy walking my dog, and volunteering with animals!

I graduated from The University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and finished a Masters in Biology at Eastern Michigan University. I enjoy helping others, which included teaching kids at my church, tutoring middle and high school students during study hall, working with youth in after school programs, helping adults who wish to improve their English, and helping friends who home school their kids. My most preferred subjects are Biology and Economics because I like knowing how things work and how people think on a larger scale. While it is important to know facts or the application of facts, I feel that learning how to learn and critical thinking are important and are built on the foundation of a trusting relationship existing between the tutor and the student. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, following professional sports, boardgames, cooking and eating.

Education for me is the core of knowledge. The role of teachers and tutors is to be educators, in order to help a student understand and learn. I am a more visual teacher, graph drawings, and any visual representation is my go-to style. Everything is tied to the real world so, I like to provide real-world examples throughout my teaching sessions. I have been a teacher for a long time, and my passion has remained the same: seeing students thrive and feel confident in their work.

I have been an independent tutor for several years now. I recently graduated at the top of my class from a high school in Fort Collins, Colorado, and spent the spring semester of 2015 studying abroad at a Spanish university. In the fall of 2016 I will be continuing on to a four year year Canadian university to study mathematics. Mathematics is my specialty and my passion but I enjoy conversing in Spanish and French immensely and have a deep appreciation for the intricate beauty of linguistics. Other less academic passions of mine include backpacking, rock climbing, music and general adventure and travel.I am devoted to designing quality lesson plans and using top notch resources. I love teaching and have been developing my skills in various environments throughout my educational career. One of the most important characteristics of my teaching style is my focus on clear communication. Communication is key in making clear what is understood, what is not, and what is confusing for any student, which I find to be particularly important in the case of students who do not enjoy math, who can often come up against mental blocks. Some other important aspects of my teaching style are my teacher engagement in the subject matter, connecting knowledge to the real world and exploring content from my student’s perspective. In mathematics, my background is primarily experiential and traditionally academic. In regard to languages I have had the fortune to learn them at least partially through immersion. My Spanish has been learned through my eighth grade year which I spent studying in Mexico at a local school and then grammar studying in an upper level college course and finally a semester in Spain. My French was learned primarily in school but I recently spent a month in Morocco where I was able to apply it in a more practical environment.
