Finding new ways to solve problems helps students with different learning styles feel successful. The most important thing for students is to find their own way to success. They also need to be honoured for themselves and what they do well. My teaching practice has always started with relationship building and understanding. Students need to feel listened to in order to be motivated to learn. I obtained a Psychology and Criminology honours Bachelors degree from the University of Toronto and then, after children, received my teaching degree in Ontario in 2006 from York University in Toronto where I worked as a teacher, tutor, and mentor for more than 15 years. I now teach and tutor in British Columbia after moving here 3 years ago. I have taught English and Math, as well as Geography, History, Psychology, and Science and I tutor in those subjects; however, I also help with organizational skills, study skills, and planning. I specialize but am not limited to, teaching students with Learning Differences. When I was in school, I was always a very conventional learner, learning things by rote and not really understanding the deeper concepts. When I became a teacher, I began to learn the different ways to approach questions, and how, with many students, these new approaches helped them to understand the concepts of the work they were doing. Every student has success in them, we need to help them to discover the right key to unlock it.

I love books, reading, talking about books, and listening to books when I drive back and forth to work. In my spare time, I do volunteer work, play games on my phone, work on my book and go to the ocean to walk or read.
