I Graduated from Alief Hastings High School with a 3.9 GPA and extensive volunteer work with Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA). From there, I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S in Sociology, minor in Chemistry and Pre-Health Certificate. During this time, I studied abroad and studied some foreign languages. Upon graduation I have been working as a nurse, shadowing doctors and, now, I'm back in school for my nursing degree.

I have a BA in Political Science from New College of Florida and a MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. While I'm a photographer by trade, I also have a passion for and expertise in Math and the Natural Sciences -- as well as French and Spanish, having studied and worked in both Paris and Central America. While I'm proficient now, I struggled with both languages early on, and understand the challenges of both starting a new language and in moving from a conversational to a more proficient level. This fall, I will be returning to my alma mater to pursue a Master of Public Health. Over the course of my undergraduate career, I had the privilege of tutoring students of all ages in language arts, writing, the GRE and study skills. I am very familiar with that overwhelming feeling of anxiety that people can feel when faced with eight empty pages left on an eight page research paper or unsatisfying GRE practice scores. I want students to walk away from a session with the tools they need to tackle an obstacle that previously felt insurmountable, so I take a very hands-on approach to these subjects by actively guiding students through prompts, GRE strategies, and research outlines. I want the student to walk away from each session with a collaboratively created plan of action that will help quell their anxiety and guide their efforts going forward. I take a similar approach to life in my spare time - I love to challenge myself with hobbies like rock climbing, cooking and creative writing. After each successful (or wildly unsuccessful) attempt at something new, I take what I learned and modify my approach to the problem until one day I manage to create something delicious!

Studying for all of this at once can be annoying. However, it can be fun if you let it. That doesn't mean it won't be work to master the topics BUT it means that it doesn't have to be painful.I spent my college career studying many topics. In undergrad, I minored in Computer Science and majored in Cinema Studies. Essentially, I love math and science but am also a very artistic person (and I really love film). To drive that home, my MFA is in Film Production. Both degrees were obtained from NYU. I received a 1550 on my SAT when it was out of 1600.My education career has been in the arts. I taught Editing at New York Film Academy and was the Chair of Post Production there as well. Throughout all of this, I have always kept my math and science skills sharp, mostly because I just love the subjects.

Having worked in countries all over the world, I am comfortable working with a diverse range of people, regardless of their language fluency and subject expertise. Since graduating, I have been attending a post-bac program at the University of Toronto in intensive Spanish and Arabic, before continuing on to medical school.
