I am a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology. I also earned minors in chemistry and Spanish while there. While in college, I was a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry I and II for 3 semesters, Microbiology for 1 semester, and Tissue/Cell Culture for 1 semester. I have always loved helping students learn because there were times when I relied on those same people. I try to help students not to only complete their assignments, but help them understand and apply the concepts to different problems. I will be attending graduate school to obtain my PhD in Biomedical Sciences and when I am not busy with academics, I like to workout, hang out with friends, and travel.

After college, I went on to get my Masters of Science in Biomedical Science at Tufts University School of Medicine. I am currently applying to medical school and hope to matriculate next fall. In the past, I have tutored middle school geometry and worked as a peer tutor in a college level introductory biology lab. I have an extensive background in biology and am passionate about healthcare. I hope to share my love of science and education with my students. I understand how stressful certain classes can be, and I will break down complex topics to make them more approachable. Outside of the classroom, I work as a medical scribe and enjoy reading, running, and listening to music.

I have experience tutoring and mentoring students from middle school to college. I have tutored for Varsity Tutors and Rice Tutors and have even run my own private piano studio. In total I have 10 years of experience.My credentials: I graduated from Rice University with a B.S. in bioengineering and am about to receive my MD in June from UT Southwestern. My MCAT is 36Q (11 verbal, 12 bioscience, 13 physical science). My SAT scores are: 760 math, 740 verbal, and 790 writing. I've been through all AP classes, and graduated top of my high school class, and went into college with 54 hours of credit.I am a friendly, outgoing, confident person who is ready to do anything it takes to get you to your educational goals, because I'm willing to do anything to reach mine. I can help you with your homework, help you study (or even cram) for your exam tomorrow. I've even skyped with students till 12 am the night before their exams. My dad studied in Lima, Peru and came to the United States of America to practice medicine; my mother served as a registered nurse in the U.S. Army Reserve. Both have taught me the lesson of working hard and making a positive difference in my community. I have had an interest in the health field growing up, being born and raised in the state of West Virginia known for their poor health care. My small, rural town called Bluefield, the town that I call home, is part of a healthcare system in Southwest Virginia. My goal growing up was to make a difference in my community and give back to the people in need.

I am a Chemist, the most enjoyable, rewarding thing I do is help students develop the confidence and foundational skills to excel in technical subjects. For more than 9 years I have taught high school, undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory, classroom and tutorial settings. I believe learning should be fun and that everyone can learn, we just need to work together to find out what works for you. Learning is not just observation, it is also participation. By engaging students in interactive discussions, I encourage curiosity and intellectual exploration. I help students learn how to think not what to think. By learning to think critically, students are able to maximize their potential to excel in math and science and do well on exams. Following graduation, I worked as a chemistry professor for 3 1/2 years at Gordon State College teaching General College Chemistry I & II (chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry) and Organic Chemistry I & II. For the first two years that I was a chemistry instructor I was the youngest faculty member on campus and my classes would always be among the first to fill up. In my classroom, my colleagues would describe me as being the goofiest person in the room but it was something that I found necessary to connect with my students. Being a younger professor I remember what it was like to be a student and I remember the things that truly got my attention. I would teach my classes using superheroes, football references, mythbusters, and even relate some material to the school bus. In my office hours, I would be able to find out what interested the students and come up with an example that they would be able to understand. In the sciences, I believe learning should be as much hands on as possible and I used a variety of outside resources to teach various concepts, whether it would be using balloons, dry ice, tennis balls and paper wads, or even LIGHTING WATER ON FIRE. In addition to all of the chemistry subjects (up to a graduate level), I am qualified to teach physics, algebras 1-4, geometry, pre-calculus, and can do SAT and ACT math prep.Outside of the classroom I enjoy watching football and college basketball, going to broadway shows like the Book of Mormon, Wicked, and Monty Python's Spamalot, and going to comic book conventions. After experiencing DragonCon while living in the Atlanta area, there is nothing more fun than watching people dress up in Halloween costumes when it's not Halloween. Finally, I am an avid bowler and love to cook as these are my releases when I am over stressed.
