I understand the daily struggle and that you NEED the better grades, which is why I'll make sure you learn the subject well and come out of your course with the better grades. I love teaching people because I know how it feels to finally solve that problem you've been struggling with, and how nice it is that someone helped you do it. Whether its Algebra or Calculus 2, a problem is a problem that needs to be solved and understood. Furthermore, I can help advise you with different high school needs outside of the subject area as you need.

I have a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. I then went on to receive my masters degree in Mathematics Education (5-12). Immediately after college I worked in a tutoring center at a community college, where I had the privilege of tutoring all levels of math (from pre-algebra to calculus). I now teach high school math, most recently Geometry, Algebra II and Pre-calculus. I strive to make math easy for students to understand. I use many different strategies to help students understand and I am extremely patient. I look forward to working with you!

I gained the majority of my tutoring experience from working as a high school science teacher for a prestigious independent school in Chicago. With our small class sizes, I gave lots of one-on-one attention to students both during and after class. Though I decided a teaching career is not for me, I miss the one-on-one interactions I had with students and helping them with their individual needs. I learned that patience, attention, and time will get almost any student anywhere they may want to go academically. While some students may not receive the accolades they desire to obtain, if a student begins to appreciate the path and process of learning by itself, they will find they are rarely disappointed with their academic results.Although my degrees are in Chemistry, I really enjoy tutoring physics and statistics. Those two subjects are notorious for producing a fair amount of anxiety in students, so I relish in showing how manageable physics and statistics can be for anyone. I help students learn how to overcome their anxieties by guiding them to become better problem solvers. The problem solving skills they will develop under my tutelage will be useful not only in those subjects but carry over to other academic subjects and life in general. My academic background includes graduating from Loyola University Chicago with a BA in Chemistry and Physics minor. I received a MS in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University specializing in Theoretical/Physical Chemistry. I will be starting a Master’s program in the fall for Data Science at IIT. During that time, I will continue to tutor. When I am not "nerding" out on programming and science, I relax over video games, board games with friends, and playing the piano.

INTRODUCTIONHi! My name is Thomas. My passion for working with students stems from my own struggles as a young person in school. I have always had a passion for learning and teaching science, particularly biology, chemistry, and mathematics. My earliest mentoring experiences were during my time in Boy Scouts as I had the opportunity to teach younger scouts important skills as I earned the Eagle Scout Rank. After high school, I attended Saint Vincent College where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Certification in Biotechnology. In college, I was an Opportunity Program tutor for a high school student preparing for the AP Chemistry Exam. Regarding college students, I served as a note taker for the General Biology course, a tutor for the Cell Biology course, and a tutor for a Biochemistry course for graduate students. After college, I attended the University of Pittsburgh for graduate school and earned my PhD in Cellular and Molecular Pathology. During graduate school I was a mentor for a junior high school student in a summer program and helped her design and execute a research project examining a genetic knockout mouse model. I also served as a teaching assistant for first year graduate students in a Biomedical Sciences Intro course and first year medical students in a Histology course. Currently, I am a postdoctoral research fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School where I am continuing to perform biomedical research. When I am not in the lab, you can find me exploring historical sites and hiking outdoors.

My name is Fairooz, and I am currently a third-year medical student at Upstate Medical University. Ive always wanted to be a doctor for as far back I can remember. I recall the visits made to my pediatrician during my early days. The little girl in me could not help but be mesmerized by the doctors qualities: his patience for his long hours, his kindness, his empathy, his eagerness to listen, and his intelligence. His image remained in my mind as the kind of person Id want to be, and I try to apply many of these qualities to all my interactions, whether with patients or with students that I tutor. It is part of my personal philosophy that we should take the knowledge that we acquire over time and spread it to others in an easy-to-grasp manner. For as long as I can remember, I have always been enthusiastic about teaching others what I know, for I feel that knowledge is to be shared. I am a good listener, easy to get along with, and my main goal is to make everyone I interact with feel comfortable in my presence. This means that I am very receptive to the needs of my students and I personalize the way I approach my students based on what l feel is best for them to learn and excel. I understand that everyone does not learn best the same way. There are some students that are more visual learners, others who are more auditory learners, and yet others who learn by a combination of both. Some students learn better by reading textbooks while other require help in extracting the main concepts. I find this difference to be the most exciting aspect of teaching, as it challenges me to mold my approach each time I encounter a new student.

No matter what the concept or problem is, I describe the pathway to understanding it so that it becomes as intuitive and clear as anything. This is a promise. I know the pitfalls and ambiguities which prevent people from understanding concepts in math and the sciences, and I know how to get around them.I explain every concept in straightforward and totally plain language to describe the relationships between all of the moving parts in math and science subjects. I use familiar analogies as needed to paint a picture of the models students should imagine to successfully solve problems and wrap their heads around the concepts. After learning with me, you will be able to navigate any problem because you will know the subject backwards and forwards, from the ground up.I have three years of experience tutoring high school and college students algebra, calculus, SAT/ACT, physics and chemistry. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin in chemical engineering and chemistry.
