I'm an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill pursuing a major in economics. I'm looking for opportunities to help tutor students in math subjects and help students grow in the classroom!

I have been helping students understand calculus, improve their reading comprehension, and excel on assignments and tests for more than five years. I strive to not only prepare students to exceed academic standards but also to be critical thinkers and curious, well-informed human beings. I recently completed a dual degree at Indiana University and moved to New York to take a gap year before beginning graduate school. As a scholarship student at IU, I majored in economics, cognitive science, and piano performance. Outside of tutoring, you can find me playing or teaching piano, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching TED talks, running, or trying a new food or cooking technique.

My goal is to provide students with an understanding of the topic that is tailored to the student's learning style while providing him or her broad insights into the issues. Quality writing, speaking, and argument can only come with a full understanding of facts and context, and having that will distinguish my students over their peers. Tailoring the material to the student will be an important way for him or her to, not only, understand and retain the information, but also to apply it. There are many educational tools that are either not used in classrooms or are not suitable for groups, finding the right tool for the student will be central to my approach.My background is interdisciplinary and broad. I am a practicing attorney in Washington, DC with prior careers in technology consulting and intelligence analysis. I have bachelor and master degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, a law degree from Washington & Lee University, and am licensed by the bars of Virginia and Maryland. I was raised in Tucson, Arizona and have lived many years on the east and west coasts as well as abroad. I speak Russian fluently and am conversational in Portuguese.

My passion for tutoring started when I was in college, studying economics. I struggled a lot with my introductory microeconomics class and worked diligently to not only understand the content but improve my grades. At the end of the semester, I received an A. Being able to accomplish this was amazing, and helped me regain confidence. But the truth is that I never gave up. Hard work matters!I became a tutor on campus for students athletes and helped them with economics, accounting and finance.I also understood that explaining concepts to my classmates and peers on campus was the best way for me to deepen my understanding of the subject matter. I never stopped since!Throughout the years, I have discovered a passion for helping others improve their grades and pass their classes. I am currently pursuing a masters program in Business Administration at Texas Southern University. During my graduate school year, I held several positions as a tutor, teacher assistant, and mentor to students. I enjoy tutoring business courses especially accounting, finance and economics. My experience as a tutor has enabled me to assist students in understanding difficult concepts, and this has normally resulted in a positive feedback. I am an experienced math tutor and have tutored all math levels from pre-algebra to multivariable calculus/differential equations. I served as the mathematics tutor for my undergraduate university's college of engineering where I worked with college students on achieving success in their courses. My teaching philosophy is that anyone can learn and achieve mastery in math, we just have to figure out what the best way to break down concepts is and simplify steps as much as possible. There are many, many ways to approach math problems, the trick is finding the one that makes to most sense to each individual. I hold a double bachelors degree in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Stony Brook University and am working on my PhD in Economics.

I constantly search for new information and am an avid learner with regard to both people and subject matter. I have a great deal of energy and am at times an irrepressible joker; some might say a class clown.
