With a strong foundation in early childhood and elementary education, instruction is rooted in building confident, capable learners who feel supported every step of the way. Experience across Pre-K through elementary classrooms, combined with a master's degree in education and licensure in birth through kindergarten, has developed a deep understanding of how students learn best, especially in foundational reading and math. Tutoring sessions are intentionally designed to meet each student's individual needs through engaging, hands-on, and data-driven instruction. Strong emphasis is placed on foundational literacy skills using research-based practices aligned with the Science of Reading, including phonics, fluency, and comprehension. In math, instruction focuses on conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and building confidence through interactive and real-world connections. Beyond academics, creating a positive and encouraging learning environment is a priority. Students are supported in taking risks, asking questions, and developing independence as learners. We consistently monitor progress and communicate it to ensure growth and success over time. With experience leading small groups, developing targeted interventions, and supporting diverse learners, including students with IEPs, I bring structured yet flexible tutoring to ensure each child reaches their full potential.

I feel that being an elementary school teacher or tutor, is one of great value and of a great deal of purpose in this lifetime. The reason I feel so strongly about being an elementary tutor, is because it is the foundation towards where education begins. As a teacher of the elementary studies, is where I can be there to mold students to enjoy learning, through being able to get all the students to learn through fun and exciting ways. I believe that if I am tutoring a child, and I show the child to keep trying and to never give up, then this will then reflect on that child as they grow up to always give their full best efforts into everything that they do in life. I am here to teach, tutor, and to nurture all young children into growing academically, so that they can all have bigger and brighter futures.

I am a certified English teacher with over seven years of teaching experience. I was educated at North Carolina Central University where I received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a concentration in journalism. My education and passion for helping people achieve their goals academically, professionally, and personally has allowed me to work with students age five to sixty-five in many different settings and subjects. I have taught English in community colleges, elementary, middle, and high school, an ESL training school in Beijing, China, and a refugee center in Rome, Italy. English, ESL, reading, writing, social studies, humanities, and math complete my list of subjects taught over the years. I tutor a variety of classes for Varsity Tutors. However, my favorite subjects to tutor are English, ESL, reading, and writing. I love teaching these subjects because I enjoy helping students express themselves better, understand people, comprehend literature more effectively, and create written work that includes proper grammar and a cohesive sentence structure. I truly believe that the ability to effectively communicate in various ways can unlock a treasure box of opportunities. My teaching philosophy is that every student is unique and requires guidance tailored to their interests, goals, and learning style in order to fully maximize their learning potential. When I first meet a student, I like to take some time to get to know them a bit. In my initial conversation with them and/or their parent, I inquire about how they comprehend material the best and what their goals are for our tutoring sessions. I also like to learn their hobbies and interest so that I can create engaging lesson plans that are tailored around things they like. My role as the tutor is to assist each student in achieving their learning goals, and I strive to do that in the most fun and engaging ways as possible. When I'm not tutoring or making lesson plans, I enjoy watching movies, reading, and hanging out with family and friends, but my most favorite thing to do is travel to different countries. So far, I have visited the United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, Mexico, Hong Kong, Grand Cayman Islands, Italy, and China. I love experiencing different cultures and actually lived in the last two countries previously mentioned. In Rome, Italy, I taught ESL at a center for refugees from the Middle East and Africa. I taught there for several months and was amazed at how quickly my students advanced in English despite their dire situations. In Beijing, China, I spent several years working as an ESL teacher in a training center. My students there were very eager to learn and shared their culture and customs with me weekly. Both experiences were life changing and allowed me to fully immerse myself in another culture while closely working with adult and school age students. Even though I was the teacher and facilitated their growth in English, I learned a lot from them too. I am forever grateful for both experiences.

I graduated college with a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Juvenile Justice. Over the years, I've discovered a profound passion for tutoring elementary students in math, reading & science. My passion stemmed at an early age grading papers & tutoring students for my nana who was an elementary school teacher for more than 35 years. My senior year in a high school I worked with the Boys & Girls Club tutoring kids in Kinder through 4th grade in Math, Reading & Science. Once in college I obtained a work study position with the America Reads program tutoring youth in the community schools who needed further assistance. Now I am tutoring kids all over the world! I believe learning should be an adventure, and I thrive on creating engaging and effective learning experiences that cater to each child's unique needs. My approach extends beyond simply providing answers; I aim to build a solid foundation of understanding, enrich their learning opportunities, foster a love of learning through fun and interactive methods, and empower them with the confidence to tackle any challenge. My goal is to ignite a passion for math, reading & science that will propel them towards academic success and a lifelong love of learning.

My passion has been math education since I was a freshman in high school. I have always loved math, and I enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm and excitement my math teacher showed during every class. I understand the struggle some people face when learning math and the negative consequences of not being able to do well in a math course can create. If I can help alleviate the frustration or self-doubt of a student, I have done my job.I have experience working with a wide age range of students from various backgrounds. I have tutored elementary age students, middle school students, high school students, traditional college students, and non-traditional college students. Tutoring at the community college, I come across many individuals from various walks of life and it has allowed me the opportunity to learn more about other cultures and ideals that are different from my own.I received my Bachelors degree and Masters degree in applied mathematics from North Carolina Central University. I currently attend North Carolina State University where I am working on my Ph.D. in mathematics education.I currently tutor elementary mathematics, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, statistics, and pre-Calculus. My favorite subjects to tutor are algebra I and algebra II. I thoroughly enjoyed these topics while in school and algebra is the foundation of high level mathematics. If I am able to help someone understand algebra or pre-algebra, they will be on the right path to academic success in upper levels of mathematics. My teaching philosophy is that anyone can learn giving the right tools and support. Regardless of their race, religion, gender, socioeconomic status, or other factors, if an individual truly wants to learn, they can. It is my job as an instructor and tutor to make sure I provide each individual with the skills they need in order to be successful. My tutoring style varies from one student to the next. I realize all students have different learning styles, so I tailor my method to what works best for that particular student.Outside of academia, I love watching Sci-Fi shows (Supernatural, Walking Dead, etc), and listening to music.
