I received my Bachelors Degree in Biology at St. Edward's University, and received my Master of Science in Entrepreneurial Technology at the University of Notre Dame. I have loved science all my life! When I was younger I wanted to be a veterinarian, so to get exposure with animals, I worked at the zoo for four years. I learned a lot, and was able to share my knowledge with the campers during the summer. Finishing high school, and going into college, I still loved science, especially biology, but my focus shifted towards the human body. Not only did I excel in my classes, but I was again given the opportunity to share my knowledge by becoming a tutor, a teaching assistant in the biology labs, and even a supplemental instructor for some of the beginner courses. My passion for sharing everything I've learned has been stifled in the past year or so, so I am excited for the opportunity to continue tutoring. I'm a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Science-Computing--the University's equivalent of the pre-med major, but with additional credits reserved for a few Computer Science electives. I'm constantly amazed by how connected even the most disparate of STEM concepts can be, like the gears of a well-oiled machine: when learning new material, I always find myself revisiting old ideas in some new light and find unexpected relationships between the two.I'm a strong visual learner, and this is reflected in my style of tutoring. I think that being able to picture something clearly instantly makes it significantly less abstract, and is particularly helpful when trying to dissect the inner workings of some multi-step process. I recently retired from the US Army after 17 years as an analyst and adviser on Northeast Asian policy. I hold a BA in Japanese Language and Government/International Relations from Notre Dame, an MA in Asian Studies from the University of Hawaii, and am currently working on PhD in Japanese History at Princeton University.Over my time in the Army, I worked in 4 different countries with partners from over 20 different nations, both military and civilian. I spent 7 years in Japan working as a liaison, policy adviser, and sometime interpreter/translator. However, the job I enjoyed most was as the chief of a team training Army units preparing to conduct joint exercises with Asia-Pacific partners. I really enjoyed teaching and sharing my experiences in order to prepare soldiers to succeed and bring the same enthusiasm to tutoring.The best way to remember something is to have it practically apply to you--I try to bring out the "so what" in every subject to help students understand why it is important.
