I am an Ivy-league graduate (Princeton summa cum laude) and an editor for an academic publishing press. I have years of experience teaching and mentoring at the university level (University of Notre Dame), and I've also tutored students in chemistry, math, the arts, and humanities from elementary school through high school. I've worked and lived in over seven different countries with international colleagues and I'm very understanding of different cultural backgrounds. I fell in love with teaching years ago while serving as a librarian for children and teens, and I enjoy working with students to reach their full potential.

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame summa cum laude with a Bachelors degree in Finance and a certificate in International Business. I went abroad to London for a semester during my junior year, studying business as well as the social sciences. During the 7.5 semesters I spent on-campus, I tutored elementary, middle, and high school students at a local community center. I also served as a teaching assistant for Process Analytics, a course requirement for the Mendoza School of Business undergraduate program. Im currently pursing my passion to help others and augment my own knowledge as I work on a Masters degree in General Psychology.I truly love to learn, and Im inherently inclined to share my enthusiasm for learning with others. My goal is to help students excel in all of their coursework, and to identify the subjects that excite them the most. Everyone has unique preferences for the ways in which they learn new material. My name is Steven Marvin, and I am a Finance/ Applied Math student at the University of Notre Dame. I have previous experience tutoring at a Math learning center for over 2 years. I am passionate about helping others and problem-solving.

At Notre Dame, I worked as a tutor at the University Writing Center, helping both undergraduate and graduate students with their writing. I had the opportunity to live in Spain for 6 months, where I became fluent in Spanish and developed a love for tutoring English language learners. I am an ambitious and eager student entering the University of Notre Dame as a freshman this fall. I have been in marching band throughout high school and concert bands for eight years, and have a particularly strong interest in social studies. Throughout high school, I took a rigorous course load so that I could take classes in a broad range of subjects each year, comprised predominantly of honors and AP level classes. I was a part of the inaugural STEM program at my high school, and am looking to continue with engineering and history in college. I love school and am considering a career in teaching because I enjoy helping others learn and finding new ways to explain concepts.

In the fall of 2007, I fulfilled a dream by attending the University of Notre Dame. There I majored in Classics and Pre-Professional Studies. Following my college career, I obtained a Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences from Midwestern University in Downers Grove.I have always been fascinated with biology and chemistry and how microscopic interactions lead to the world we see around us. I love learning about all areas of science and this passion drives my excitement for tutoring. As someone who was able to go to his dream school, I am committed to helping everyone I tutor to have the same opportunity.

I recently retired from the US Army after 17 years as an analyst and adviser on Northeast Asian policy. I hold a BA in Japanese Language and Government/International Relations from Notre Dame, an MA in Asian Studies from the University of Hawaii, and am currently working on PhD in Japanese History at Princeton University.Over my time in the Army, I worked in 4 different countries with partners from over 20 different nations, both military and civilian. I spent 7 years in Japan working as a liaison, policy adviser, and sometime interpreter/translator. However, the job I enjoyed most was as the chief of a team training Army units preparing to conduct joint exercises with Asia-Pacific partners. I really enjoyed teaching and sharing my experiences in order to prepare soldiers to succeed and bring the same enthusiasm to tutoring.The best way to remember something is to have it practically apply to you--I try to bring out the "so what" in every subject to help students understand why it is important. As a tutor for the past 3 years, 3/4 of my students in AP European History and AP American History have scored 5s on the AP exam.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Notre Dame, with a Master's degree in Management. Before Notre Dame, I studied English Writing and French at Saint Mary's College, and French is by far my tutoring passion. My favorite thing about tutoring is just being able to share the subjects I love with other people. I have previous experience tutoring French and writing at Saint Mary's College, where I have received pedagogical training as a part of my work. I know how to help students become better learners overall, instead of just getting a better grade on one assignment. Outside of the classroom, I love video games, Jane Austin, and singing.

I am a current biological sciences major and bioengineering minor at the University of Notre Dame. As a biology major/bioengineering minor, math and science are my passions, and I love to share the joy I derive from those subjects with students. I have been a math tutor to elementary, middle, and high school students. While my favorite subject to tutor is any type of math, I also tutor biology. As a tutor, I believe that learning should be fun, and work to make it that way. Since I am still currently in school, I am constantly being exposed to new methods of teaching and am able to utilize those methods when tutoring. When I am not in the middle of a good book, I enjoy cooking and gardening.

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish. Since earning my degree, I completed a two-year commitment as a corps member with Teach for America (TFA). TFA is an organization that works to analyze gaps in the education system and fills roles based on the belief that all children have the right to an equitable, excellent education. Throughout my commitment in the corps, I taught Spanish I, Spanish II, and Spanish III. I also served as the ESL leader in my school and have experience tutoring all subjects for high school-age students whose first language is not English. I also use my background in psychology to work with all of my students on study-skills that are beneficial for encoding (storing new information in the long-term memory).In my free time, I love to play soccer, run, try new foods, hike, and hang out with friends!
