I started tutoring while in college and I started teaching high school math after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a math degree. I have taught all high school subjects (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics, and Finite Math) and prepared students for the ACT, SAT, SAT subject tests, AP exams, and college placement exams. When tutoring, I will start by showing students good examples and all the steps, but by the end of the session, the student is showing me all the steps without any assistance. We both need to be confident that the student can talk through the problem and solve it with no notes and without prompting.
