I am currently a Biology Pre-Med student at Kent State University and I am getting my minor in ASL. I work as a tutor both here and for my college and am working towards getting my CRLA Level 1 certification. I enjoy teaching and I hope to be able to help as many people as possible; my goal for the future is to get to teach English and other subjects abroad before I get my master's! I am proficient in tutoring students in math, reading, writing and science for elementary and middle school, as well as chemistry and biology; though my favorite class to tutor has to be biology or algebra. I firmly believe in teaching students not only the subjects they need help with but also how to learn similar things in the future. After all, the real goal of tutoring is to get to a point where it isn't needed anymore! In my free time, I am an avid reader and baker, and I am currently teaching myself how to figure skate.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University with a dual degree in special education K-12 and general education 1-8. My master's degree focused on language arts and computer science and is from the Ohio State University. I have taught every grade 1-12 beginning with Title I reading, grades 1-6, second grade, third grade, and fifth grade-all self-contained, 6th grade language arts, and 5-12 special education. I also was the director at our school for the high school credit recovery program both before and after my retirement in 2015. I taught for a digital academy and worked with high school students for credit recovery. After retiring, I received an ESL certificate from VIPKID and have taught English as a second language to children 3-17. I also have worked with adults at our local library and in person with children from other countries at one of our county schools. I love working with both children and adults and have a passion for helping students succeed. Education is important for success!

My passion for tutoring stems from witnessing the moment when a concept finally "clicks" for a student. With a Master's in Business Administration and a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice, I leverage my strong communication and problem-solving skills to create a supportive learning environment. I have over 2 years of experience tutoring a diverse range of subjects, including AP English Language and Literature, Creative Writing, and elementary reading. My approach is patient and adaptable, focusing on breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps while encouraging questions to build confidence. Beyond academics, I enjoy creative pursuits like embroidery and brand design, which inspire me to bring creativity and positive energy into my sessions, helping students develop essential life skills that extend beyond the classroom.

My mother and aunt were outstanding educators and I wanted to be like them. I attained my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the HBCU Fisk University and my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Kent State University. I am most passionate about the subject of reading. Everything flows from reading; we can read for fun, to conduct a science experiment, and to solve a math problem. Teaching is enjoyable when you know the student understands a skill on which you have been working. Children are fascinating; their curiosity and natural sense of wonder is a joy to experience. It is very rewarding to start where a child is in their learning journey and watch them grow as they gain understanding. Working with children makes us all lifelong learners.
