Since I was a child, I have always been interested in Science and skilled in Mathematics. This eventually led to me studying Chemistry at Hope College and attaining a Bachelor of Science degree. While I was in college, I also became interested in Japan. After college graduation, I taught English in Japan for many years. During that time, I studied Teaching English as a Second Language, and attained a Master's Degree. Now I teach ESL at a school in downtown Columbus Ohio.My main experience is teaching English to people who speak other languages, but I also have experience teaching the Japanese language, and helping my children, and other children understand Math and Science. Once, I even tutored Physics, using Japanese. When I am not teaching, I enjoy running and singing. Exercise and Art strengthen the mind!

I recently finished my third year of undergraduate education at Hope College, Holland MI. I am pursuing a double major in electrical engineering and sociology as well as a minor in mathematics. Tutoring has always been very fulfilling for me and I have worked as a math tutor, both privately and in the employ of Hope College, for several years.Pursuing my engineering major and mathematics minor has provided me with the technical skill necessary for effective tutoring. Additionally, my experience working with students from all backgrounds has honed my ability to explain difficult concepts in language which will be understandable to a particular student. As an undergraduate student, I recently took the ACT and am currently enrolled in several math, science, and engineering classes. As such, I am uniquely equipped to help students excel in math for either their ACT or SAT as well as to provide them the tools they will require to succeed in their college careers. Not only will do I provide expert and individualized guidance in the complex field of mathematics but I can give your student tips on other important aspects of success in college like effective study habits. If you or your student would like a bit of help with math I would love to give you some assistance. Hope to meet you soon!

I attended Hope College from 2006 to 2010 where I obtained a Bachelor's Degree with a double major in Biology and Mathematics. I then went on to study genetics at Iowa State University for a few semesters.I have tutored students both formally and informally throughout my education. In high school I tutored two students in various math subjects. At Hope I tutored a student in a freshman chemisty class. I have always had a knack for school and have enjoyed helping others understand the subjects I am passionate about. Throughout my education, even in elementary school, I would love helping my friends do better in their schooling, whether that be by just answering a few questions they had, some one-on-one time, or a group study session.I am a tutor for both Biology and Mathematics. My favorite subjects to tutor would have to be genetics and algebra. I have always found the effect that genetics has on both individuals and populations to be intriguing and my favorite classes in high, undergraduate, and graduate school were genetics related. I enjoy tutoring algebra because I find it to be an very natural way to think about problems. I believe anyone can understand it if they are able to think about the problems in the right manner. When tutoring someone who is struggling in a subject, I like to let the student work through the subject while I am there to guide them along. What usually happens in a classroom is the teacher presents information or demonstrates a way to solve a problem and then moves on. If a student does not absorb that information or understand that approach to solving the problem, they become lost. My job is to identify the specific disconnects and try to fill in the gaps in a way that makes sense to this specific student.Outside of work I am pretty low-key. I spend a lot of my free time watching TV shows or movies or playing video games. I also like to play sports when I get the chance, usually soccer or racquetball.

I am bilingual in English and Spanish! I moved from Mexico at 7 so I have worked on developing my skills in both languages. I am a college graduate and I truly enjoy people and working with children. I believe in the power of language and find that speaking, writing and reading in two languages is fascinating and has helped me meet so many people!I recently moved to Furlong, PA and I am pursuing my certification with the Pennsylvania Courts to be a certified court interpreter. I have experience with Legalese, medical Spanish and was also a Teacher's Assistant for Spanish classes in High School. I have worked as a tutor before and would love the opportunity to help someone else grow in the love for Spanish. Not only am I a native speaker, but I have worked hard to ensure that my knowledge of Spanish remains up to date.

Education is a tool to open every door, but it is also it's own reward. A quality education is invaluable to success in life, but I believe that students need to truly understand what they're learning so they can think critically for themselves for the rest of their lives. I'm in my last semester of my English education degree and am qualified to tutor in all English language arts and social studies subjects. I'm most passionate about working with students and their writing, encouraging them to dig deeper and get curios in their education. I have extensive experience tutoring high school students, especially in college essay writing and English classes.

My name is Richard Sanchez and I attended Louisiana State University for my M.A. in Philosophy. I concentrate in logic and history of philosophy. I believe that the history of philosophy can expose people to the abundant and nuanced ideas that have spread throughout our world.I attended Hope College for my B.A. in Classical Studies where I focused on the intersections of history and mythology. While attending LSU, I was a Guest Lecturer for Symbolic Logic. This taught me quite a bit about public speaking and helped me develop my teaching philosophy. The benefit to being a Guest Lecturer rather than a Teaching Assistant is that I actually had the opportunity to lead classes on multiple occasions, while providing additional study time outside the classroom. The students always come first. Whenever I hold study sessions I focus on fun. Activities include weekly logic puzzles and games, fallacies of the day and debate. I believe that the earlier a person can be exposed to the abstract nature of philosophy the better. I even joined PLATO. An organization aimed at the promotion and enjoyment of philosophical education.

Statistics is much more than just another branch of mathematics. To really understand statistics requires some basic math chops, but also a grounding in logic, process thinking, good judgement, and attention to detail. A bit of artistic and spatial reasoning is always helpful for visualization. While few of us naturally excel in all of these areas at once, most of us can count at least one of these areas as a personal strength. That's where your unique journey into statistics begins - right where you are, with what you already know. When things start to get tricky, we'll remind ourselves of what our strengths are and push ourselves to level up in all areas equally.

I'm a high school chemistry and biology teacher with a love of languages. I consider myself a lifelong learner and am excited to share and discover new subjects and ideas. I'd love to help you in your learning journey as well! I started tutoring as a college freshman after taking an advanced chemistry course and realizing how much I enjoyed working with my classmates to help them study and solve difficult problems. My college hired me to tutor French, biology, and chemistry students throughout the next three and a half years. I also started meeting with several gifted high school students who needed guidance in preparing the best college applications possible. Having successfully passed seven AP tests as a student, I was able to help them prepare for the most challenging content in the classes and on the AP tests. I was also able to share ACT test strategies and content knowledge from my own experience that helped me achieve a 35 cumulative score and qualify as a national merit scholar on the PSAT. During college, I also had the opportunity to volunteer my time with high school students who were internationally adopted or in foster care while awaiting immigration proceedings. Working with students who were learning math, science, and other subjects in their second language became a passion that drove me to switch career paths and become a teacher in a public school. I speak conversational French and Spanish which has given me such an appreciation for the patience and grace of native speakers willing to help me. This has framed my entire approach to education as science often feels like a foreign language to students who are not yet fluent. With patience, exposure, and practice, I believe every student can be successful at even the most challenging science concepts. Now I teach high school chemistry and AP chemistry, but I'm also certified in and have taught high school biology and physical science. My favorite part of teaching chemistry is the moment of satisfaction students experience when they have struggled and overcome a difficult task. My students may have different journeys to success, but I love celebrating every victory.

I received my B.A. in Communications and French from Hope College in Holland, MI. I decided to pursue a degree in French not because I had my heart set on teaching in a classroom setting, but simply because I couldn't get enough of studying language! My undergrad years included a semester abroad at the University of Rennes II in Brittany, France, where I studied French literature, journalism, translation, and pronunciation. During my undergrad, I worked as a French tutor in one-on-one settings, as well as a teaching assistant for a French course, independently leading a weekly class that followed their professor's curriculum and provided additional space for practice.Since graduating in 2014, I have spent 4 years living and working in francophone West Africa, including 1 year of total language immersion in a professional setting. Along the way, I have loved any opportunity to encourage others in their language learning goals, whether in French or English. I love seeing people enjoy the confusing, convivial, humbling, and eye-opening experience of learning and using a foreign language!Aside from tutoring, I've found opportunities to use French in my community by volunteering as a translator and interpreter for asylum seekers. I currently volunteer as an assistant in a weekly online ESL (English as a Second Language) class. In the past, I have worn more professional hats that I can count, but I can't remember having a job I didn't like. I have prepared coffee, catered wedding banquets, coordinated activities for a senior living community, and sold rain gear and climbing equipment at an outdoor sports retailer. Most recently, I've worked as the Executive Assistant for a medical NGO in West Africa.
