Hey there, I'm Iskandar! I'm a pre-medical post-baccalaureate student, entering my last year of coursework before medical school, and have a very strong academic background in biology, chemistry, and human anatomy. On top of my classwork experience, I also have over a year of biology research experience, specializing in molecular biology and neuroscience. My main areas of academic and professional interest are in medicine - especially emergency medicine - as well as clinical and biomedical research. I'm an extroverted and adaptable person, and often use analogies in my explanations, so I aim to fill in any knowledge gaps by showing things from another angle. My first step is to know what you understand well and what you're struggling with, so that we can work on the weak spots without rehashing things that you're already comfortable with.

I recently graduated with both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in computer science from Georgia Tech in the Spring of 2023. During my last year, I was a teaching assistant and I became very passionate about teaching and helping students achieve their goals, not only in computer science, but across other subjects as well. My favorite subjects to tutor are computer science, math, and physics, but I am continuing to add to my range of subjects that I teach. As a teaching assistant at Georgia Tech, I developed effective communication skills and learned to adapt my teaching style to diverse learners. These experiences reinforced my commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.Outside of college, I have found fulfillment in tutoring younger students, witnessing their growth and success firsthand. I believe in the power of personalized instruction and the importance of nurturing a student's holistic development. Therefore, as a tutor, I am dedicated to tailoring my teaching style to each student's unique needs. I like to foster a supportive and collaborative environment, encouraging students to ask questions and explore their curiosities. My goal is not only to help students grasp subjects related to computer science, but also to ignite a love for learning across a variety of subjects.Beyond my academic background, I have a diverse set of interests. I really enjoy hiking, cooking, dancing, and traveling.

I am a father, husband, coach, senior business leader with a fortune 100 company, and former Army officer. Having raised two sons, I discovered that I love teaching. I instructed young people both as a coach and by tutoring my sons and their friends usually in physics and math. I graduated 3rd in my class from the United States Military Academy at West Point majoring in Physics. Later, I earned a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech. Despite that, my professional career was actually in high tech sales. I was fortunate to have a great high school physics teacher that inspired me to major in physics in college. I hope to pay it forward and motivate others to love physics and math as much as I do. Common feedback that I get is that I'm very good at simplifying complex topics so that they are easily understood.

I'm a recent graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and majored in Mathematics during my college years. Currently, I'm a data scientist at a company. For work, I use statistics daily and it has become one of my strong suits. The majority of my work is technical, but I have to present these technical projects to none technical people. Thus, it has taught me a way to simplify and explain technical terms. Similarly, I can use this skill set to present complex math problems that can be understood by anyone and everyone.Since high school, I've been around tutoring centers and volunteered there to tutor SAT. From the volunteering experience, I gained a lot of understanding on working with high school students. I did a lot of SAT test prep with the students and corrected their mistakes on each incorrect math problem. Also, I have previous experience in tutoring from elementary to college math. For example, some of these sections include calculus, algebra, geometry, etc. When I took the SAT back in high school, I got a perfect score in the math section and on the math II subject test as well. In turn, I am confident that I can tutor students of all grade levels and of various math skillset. For college students specifically, I have a great study plan that can help them with improving their grades and understand the math concepts that are taught in class. This plan got me through the rigorous courses of my own years at GT, so I am confident in its implementation. I am currently also studying to take the GMAT, and it has been a great refresher on the different math subjects that I have learned throughout the years. It will come in handy when I am determining personalized ways to help my students. In my role as a tutor, I hope to provide consultation to those seeking a tutor and understand their situation first and foremost. Following that, I will host their first tutoring session and give them an idea of what my ways of teaching are like. If they are satisfied, I would continue with my material. If there are some issues with the method or misunderstandings on the topics, I would be happy to see what changes can be made to better accommodate them. My students' abilities to do better on what they need help on is the most important aspect.

By tutoring people I was close in age with, I was able to better understand their struggles and confusions.I continued in university where I would help friends through subjects I recently completed and walk through concepts that the teacher struggled to make relatable.Even as an engineer in the professional world today, I am constantly teaching other whether it is explaining an idea I have or a way something should be done. I have tutored students in middle school was I was in high school, and I have recently tutored elementary students virtually through Mastery Learning Hour, which was created to help students who had difficulty finding tutors during the COVID-19 pandemic. I currently attend the Georgia Insititute of Technology, known as Georgia Tech, where I am pursing a bachelor's degree in Biology. I tutor math for all levels of elementary and middle students, pre-algebra, algebra, elementary school science, middle school science, and high school biology. My favorite subject to tutor is math because it is easy to relate math to our everyday lives, more than one would usually think. Regarding my teaching style, I am very interactive, and my goal is to have you explain to me what we learned. We will work as a team to help you learn, and I will make sure you feel as comfortable as possible with the pace of each lesson. Travis scored a 35 on the ACT and graduated salutatorian of his high school class while playing varsity baseball and participating in marching and concert band, so he knows that the ability to perform under pressure, whether on a standardized test or in a normal day of class, comes from self-confidence and discipline. A long-time tutor dating back to his friends in high school and college, Travis knows firsthand that nothing proves that you have mastered a concept more than the ability to teach it to someone else. This principle is something Travis likes to utilize in tutoring sessions, where concepts are broken down into elementary, fundamental building blocks that the student can use in progressively more complex and challenging scenarios, ultimately reaching the level of understanding where the student is able to teach these core concepts back to me. Travis is originally from Dallas, Texas, has lived in Georgia, Indiana, Ireland, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, and currently lives in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. In his free time, he enjoys reading, planning family vacations, listening to new music, and following professional and amateur baseball.

When I was young, I realized that I thought differently about Mathematics than my peers. I read the textbook and instantly understood it. Meanwhile, they struggled for hours. Seeing my childhood friends struggle in this way tugged on my heartstrings the same then as it does to see this struggle in my adult friends today. Because of this, I have developed a great passion for helping other people understand complex ideas. I have a strong belief that the best thing for a society is the spread of advanced critical thinking skills, so any learning assistance I can offer someone is doubly satisfying to me in that way. I studied for two years at Georgia Tech working towards a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, before having to withdraw for medical reasons. Through my work as a tutor, I intend to fund my return to collegiate education, although I am now interested in a degree more directly related to Mathematics. I enjoy tutoring many levels of Math, from basic Algebra all the way to mid-level Calculus. In fact, regardless of the topic at hand, I place a heavy emphasis on the importance of algebraic derivation, and understanding of Algebra in general. As they say, "Calculus is two steps of magic, and 30 steps of Algebra."

I've been a Varsity Tutors tutor since June 2022. I also taught large classes through high school, with experience teaching science and English. I taught English classes to students in India who had little to no English exposure through another nonprofit organization called PURE, which works to ensure underprivileged children can attain their education. Throughout my teaching and tutoring experiences, I have always worked to be approachable and welcoming to my students, because I believe asking questions can often times be the most effective way of learning. Generating and asking questions can give students a different method of approaching problems that they face, and I try to make sure I can be there for students to have any questions they have answered. Educating children, showing them the way to be successful and addressing their needs has been my wish since my early high school years. That???s why I have chose to become an undergraduate student of Physics education department at Middle East Technical University. The extensive study program and busy academic life at METU, where I held high academic achievement, gave me the knowledge and skills necessary to become a good teacher. Throughout my academic years, I tried to stay focused on my studies and master my subject. The courses offered at the education department provided me with the opportunities to develop teaching materials, use instructional methods and manage and guide a classroom. Moreover, I was involved in projects where we made lesson plans and developed high school physics curriculum. I had the chance to demonstrate my knowledge during my teaching practice years at METU High school and I was very satisfied to see that my students were making progress.Besides my educational background, I have five years of work experience. I worked in four different schools in three different countries. Those years ripened me and made me experienced in teaching. I had the opportunity to deal with twenty five students in one classroom and give them extra lessons to back up the things covered. On the other hand, I worked with as few as five students in one classroom when I was preparing students for a national examination. I also held good communication with students and tried to help them with special needs. The expectation of parents was really high, since most of the schools I worked were private schools. Therefore, I had to provide parents with information about their child???s progress where I improved my communication skills with parents. Besides all these duties, some of my responsibilities were attending education and staff meetings and conferences, dealing with students??? problems and organizing social activities for students.I believe that I can maintain a good relationship with students simply because I am very adaptable. I studied in a foreign country and I have traveled to a lot of places. I have friends from all over the world and I still keep in touch with them. Having dealt with students with different personalities I believe that I can be a good friend to them. Although teaching is my major area of interest, I spend my spare time doing social activities and sports. I am fond of playing table tennis. In addition to all these, I am also interested in cooking and traveling. I believe that I can combine my personal interests with those of a student to better address his/her needs.

Hi! My name is Josh. I am a software developer by trade with a passion for mathematics. I am currently studying to become a professor of maths, but in the meantime work in Java and Python coding. My experience has been a solid mix of CS, Math, and Physics. I have tutored in all of those areas for about 4 years now.My personal strategy in working with a new student is to gauge their goals, both short-term and long-term. Whether they are aiming to learn new concepts quickly, or deep dive into a new area, my aim is to match their pace and provide whatever support I can to help them reach these goals.I have joined Varsity Tutors for the opportunity to practice at teaching and learning new ways to help students excel. I look forward to working with you!
