My name is Francis Nguyen. I am married and have three beautiful daughters. I graduated with a Bachelor in Math Education in 2000 and a Masters in Math in 2003 from Fairfield University. I have been teaching high school for over 20 years. The subjects I have taught ranged from elementary math to Trigonometry. I love to help children learn math and succeed in math.

As a junior at Fairfield University studying mathematics, my passion for math runs very deep. I spend my free time as a Fairfield University Cheerleader and enjoy hot summer days. My goal as a tutor is to enable my clients to feel that there is nothing they can not do.

My name is Andrew and I am currently working with Varsity Tutors while I finish my Ph.D. in Education at the University of Virginia. I have taught, tutored, and coached for over a decade in more than 30 countries. I was also a Division 1 athlete throughout college, managed an NGO in China, and mentored several students in both academic and non-academic areas since 2012, so I am familiar with the challenges of trying to balance several pursuits simultaneously. I love teaching! Even in the craziness of the pandemic, I am astounded at the resilience of my students and the flexibility of my colleagues. I would not want to repeat the past 18 months, but what I have taken away from it is knowing that I can make lessons engaging and entertaining, that games are a great way to teach and review content, and that building relationships with my students must be a top priority.I am a graduate of Fairfield University, where I majored in History and Education. I have a Masters' degree from the University of Connecticut in Educational Technology. I have been teaching 8th grade U.S. History for 17 years. Specifically, the time period I know the most about is early American history from the creation of the 13 Colonies to the Reconstruction Era.I also teach literacy skills throughout my curriculum, with a focus on reading comprehension, text analysis, and informational and argument writing. Clear communication skills - both verbal and written - are 21st century skills that all students can be successful with. Some students may just need a different approach, more time, or some extra practice to get there.

Education has been a passion of mine for quite some time. During college, I worked with Upward Bound – an incredible federal program that tutors and mentors high schoolers aspiring to be first generation college students. During my career, I’ve mentored students through several programs in the Greater New York Area. Whether it is as a tutor, coach or mentor – students have always been a part of my life as a professional and volunteer.My educational background is a BA in Political Psychology from Claremont McKenna College and an MA in Communications from Fairfield University. Written and verbal communication is a great strength of mine as both an academic and professional – English, History, the Social Sciences, etc. With that being said, I have worked with students of all ages on a variety of subjects. To me, mastery of a subject is a great accomplishment, but the greater goal should always be refining your broader skills as a student and scholar. These are the overarching characteristics that allow an individual to be adaptable and flourish in a variety of academic and professional environments. In my spare time, I like to stay active, travel and enjoy the outdoors.

My background is in Physics and Mathematics and I have many years of experience in the education field. I have a B.S. in Physics, and I am working both towards a Masters of Mathematics and a Teaching Certification, which I plan to complete within a years time. I have tutored students from ages 12 to 60 in math (elementary through Algebra, Geometry, Calculus and Graduate Business Statistics), Physics, Biology, Social Studies, Reading, and even Philosophy. Kristin received her M.F.A. in Fiction and Poetry from Fairfield University where she teaches English Literature.After college, she worked in science publishing at Pearson Education and The New York Times Digital, then became involved in microbiology and neurogenetics research at Yale University. Kristin received her M.F.A. in Fiction and Poetry from Fairfield University. She has experience in freelance journalism, travel writing, and science writing. As well as teaching English Literature at Fairfield University, She conducted college interviews for Stanford University admissions for two years and helped write and publish the New SAT Guide, New SAT Practice Tests 1 and 2, and The New PSAT Guide and Practice Tests for a major test prep publisher. Kristin has 8 plus years of tutoring experience with the SAT and ACT.

During my years as a student, I had a hard time remembering concepts and terms. I had a near perfect attendance record, but still struggled with performing well on tests. I thought to myself, why was this happening?Students have so much pressure to perform well on standardized tests. We cram with flashcards, pull all nighters, and even sacrifice our social time to prove to the world that we retained what we learned that year.But are we *actually* learning? My goal as a tutor is to make your studies enjoyable. I love to use visual and real world examples to help you grasp difficult concepts.
