I'm a senior at Brown University in the Program of Liberal Medical Education (PLME). I have over three years of experience working with college application consulting with a specialty in BS/MD programs and experience in tutoring with the SAT, having scored a 2400. I'm excited to work with you and your family on making the most out of the time you have to prepare for test taking, and am also open to conversations about the university application experience.

I am about to graduate from Brown University with a B.A. in Education Studies. I love working with students one-on-one and helping them feel like they can tackle challenging material. In the past I have tutored elementary school students in English and Math, middle school students in English as a second language, and helped peers in an informal context. My experiences teaching visual art and dance classes have also helped me develop creative and engaging ways to present information. While I tutor many different subjects, I am particularly excited about working with students on writing and French. I have studied French for 11 years and lived abroad in a Francophone country, and I am a total geek when it comes to French grammar. Similarly, I love playing with and examining the English language, whether in preparation for the reading section of a Standardized Test or for a college essay. I believe that students learn best when they are able to uncover the "why," not just the "what," and it is my goal to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. In my free time, I enjoy making pottery, swing dancing, and experimenting in the kitchen.

I am a junior at Brown University pursuing a degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. After I graduate, I intend to enroll in an MD/PhD program in bioethics or health policy. In the past, I have tutored students between ages 10 and 19 in Political Science, Algebra II/Trigonometry, English as a Second Language, and sixth grade English and Math. I decided to become a tutor because my math tutor (from 8th-12th grades) took me from hating math to enjoying and succeeding in it. I want to help others make that same transition--a bad teacher or tough class can crush a student's innate curiosity, but a good tutor can restore it.I currently tutor students in the social and biological sciences (elementary school through college level), reading and writing, and in standardized test preparation. I am also an avid debater, and coach debate at a high school in Providence, RI. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy creative writing, singing, painting, horseback riding, skiing, hiking, and traveling. I am a rising sophomore at Brown University seeking a dual degree in bio-statistics and public health. I never thought it would be possible for me to receive an Ivy League education. All my life my father stressed to me that receiving an education was the only way for me to succeed and climb in this world. That is exactly what I kept in my mind as I worked diligently throughout high school, became the valedictorian, and was accepted to Brown University.I discovered early on my knack for teaching others since I self taught myself countless math and science subjects in high school. People would always seek my help because I could explain the information in a way that was clear and applicable. I understand how frustrating it can be to learn something new or master complex equations and chemical principles. I was not born a genius, like Einstein, but I have realized that true hard work and dedication can get you far in your education. I instill these values in all my students and I deeply enjoy watching them succeed through every new problem they encounter.I have tutored for four years in chemistry, physics, math, English, and statistics. I have also tutored students in SAT prep, and the techniques I employ have worked for every student I have taught. I am a graduate of Stanford University. I received my BA in Philosophy, and continued with graduate studies at Brown University where I received my MA in philosophy and completed all my course requirements for a PhD in philosophy. After several adventurous decades including travel in Africa and Asia, building a house in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, running a business designing and selling jewelry, and building alternative straw bale buildings on my property in the White Mountains of Arizona, I started tutoring math at Northland Pioneer College in Snowflake and Show Low, AZ. The past two years I have been spending most of my time in the Phoenix area where I am tutoring math, ranging from arithmetic to algebra to trig and calculus, with my main love and main focus being on algebra. What I love about algebra is the detective work---figuring out what needs to be done to solve a problem instead of just attacking it with a calculator. My tutoring style is to adapt my explanations to the needs of my students---there are always several ways to do any given problem, and I ask questions to determine which way will work best for an individual student. I am a current Junior at Brown University concentrating in health and human biology. I am also in their combined eight year baccalaureate/MD program (PLME).As a PLME, I take all of the typical pre-med classes, with a renewed focus on the humanities as well, which entails classes in English, the social sciences and so forth.Although I have taken a wide variety of classes, I am most passionate about biology, especially those which relate to the human body.
