About Me

I am a results-oriented professional engineer, educator, contractor and project manager; I have a broad range of technical and instructional design experience with consultants, government agencies, local schools and universities. I have worked and volunteered as an instructor, tutor and learning designer for over 10 years. I currently tutor students and provide instructional assistance in Math at Grand Canyon University and instruct students (K-6) in Science for a Valley area after-school program. I enjoy seeing students learn and overcome challenging subjects; especially in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and students learning English as second language. I am a proponent of educational development, mentoring and community outreach; lending my skills and expertise while volunteering and working for various professional associations, technical groups and after-school programs such as Future City Engineering, Mad Science and Women's Step-Up Network. My experience working in a diverse environments has led me to understand the need for differentiated instructional strategies to address the vary backgrounds and learning capabilities of each student. I am aware of social, ethical and human issues while teaching and the cultural differences that exist in this global world and aim to meet the needs of a diverse population. My instructional strategies and philosophy is grounded in my understanding of the issues of equity and fairness with the belief that all students are appreciated, shown respect and expected to treat each other with the same dignity. I also believe that effective communication is essential for a productive learning environment. Instructions are to be communicated both written and orally; with routine feedback helping to build and encourage students throughout the learning process. Furthermore, I believe that learning should be fun! Therefore, I aim to use tools and techniques that will increase and maintain a student's interest and focus in a subject area.
