I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Secondary English Education. I am pursuing my MFA at New York University in Musical Theatre Writing. As an educator in the field of secondary English education for the past four years, I have learned that students first need a support system in order to achieve their own greatness. I hope to be at least a small part of that support system as well as a source of guidance for students who are in need.

Education and learning are so important, and I relish the opportunity to be able to assist young people in their journey, I was socially passed in early elementary school. For whatever reason, I had difficulty with reading. Fortunately, my 3rd grade teacher was really gifted and helped me finally learn to read. After that, reading and learning became enjoyable. Being able to help someone else enjoy reading and learning is exciting to me. If I am able to help someone the way I was helped, life will be wonderful!

I believe that chemistry isn't just a subjectit's a way of understanding the world around us. My approach to tutoring is to meet students exactly where they are in their learning journey, building confidence step-by-step. I focus on making complex concepts accessible by connecting them to real-world applications, whether it's the chemistry behind cooking, environmental issues, or everyday materials. By linking theory to practical examples, I help students see the relevance of what they're learning and develop the skills to think critically, solve problems, and succeed in the classroom and beyond.

I am a graduate of Appalachian State University in North Carolina. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Middle School Education and a Master's Degree in K-12 reading. I have 23 years of experience teaching in the public schools. Most of those years were as a Title I teacher and Literacy Specialist for small groups and one-on-one learning. I tutor a variety of subjects but am passionate about reading. I believe once someone learns to read well, then they can learn anything else and a world of possibilities opens up to them!

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University, where I discovered how rewarding it is to help children grasp math concepts. Throughout my teaching journey, I have received several accolades, including the Catawba County Beginning Teacher of the Year and the Catawba County Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Currently, I am pursuing National Board Certification in Middle Childhood through Early Adolescent Mathematics, demonstrating my commitment to providing exceptional education. Before stepping into the classroom, I spent nearly two decades at Limited Brands, where I honed valuable problem-solving and interpersonal skills. This experience allows me to incorporate real-life examples into my lessons, showing students how math is relevant in our daily lives. Outside the classroom, I run a creative yard greeting business, which fuels my passion for creativity. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities, playing sports, and creating special memories with my family and friends. I am an experienced educator with 28 years in public education, specializing in reading and literacy instruction. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Elementary Education (K-6) from Western Carolina University, with Reading certification (K-12), and a Master's degree in Reading Education from Appalachian State University. I am also certified in the Orton-Gillingham approach for teaching students with dyslexia. I have worked as a public school elementary teacher, Reading Specialist, Academic Facilitator, and Adult Literacy instructor at the community college level. I have tutored students of all ages and abilities, with a strong focus on reading development from phonemic awareness through comprehension. Helping struggling readers gain confidence and success is my greatest passion. I believe education is essential to improving quality of life, and I am committed to helping students reach their full potential.

I am a graduate of Appalachian State University. I received my B.S. in Applied physics and my M.S. in Engineering Physics with a focus in Laboratory Automation. I worked as a TA for intro physics and electronics labs and am currently teaching math courses for an after-school program for accelerated students. My passion for math and physics has led to me greatly enjoying teaching others and watching them discover the laws that govern the world we live in. My teaching style involves leading students with questions to find the answers themselves. Understanding the underlying concepts is the key to mastery, not just memorization of equations and formulas.

I enjoy teaching, helping students gain knowledge, skill, and thereby power. I think the strength and skills of the younger generation are the most important things we can pass on. It takes education to develop those characteristics. I have an admiration and respect for Science, in particular Biology and Environmental Science, and I can not imagine a better way to spend my time than to talk about these two favorites, along with Math, with young people. And lastly, I have had a very supportive and happy experience working with Varsity Tutors, and I wholeheartedly approve of the way they manage the relationship of parents and students with we tutors.
