I am a proud graduate of the University of Arizona here in Tucson. While my undergraduate work focused on Elementary Education and Visual Art (I am an artist, too, and love creating visual art), my graduate work focused on School Leadership, with a focus in Principalship. I've worked as an educator in Southern Arizona for many years, including in the border town of Naco, Sonora, Mexico. I love empowering students to understand and tackle Mathematics, and to see the connections between Math, Visual Art, and everyday life. I absolutely love working with kids and young adults, and fostering the passion to become a lifelong learner.

I am a licensed teacher in Oregon with over 6 years of experience working in a variety of school environments. I've earned a Masters degree in Education from Portland State University, along with an additional Graduate Certificate in Middle School Mathematics Education. Last summer, I returned home to Portland after a two-year teaching engagement in northern Thailand, where I taught a variety of subjects (including Math and Science) to students in grades 5 - 10 in a private international school. I just completed a contract as the Middle School Math and Science teacher and 7th grade Homeroom teacher at Arthur Academy in St. Helens, Oregon.I am committed to creating an educational environment that is challenging and relevant to all students, while at the same time supporting the differences in character and learning styles that make teaching interesting. Furthermore, I am familiar with Common Core subject standards, and "backward planning", and am comfortable using a variety of assessment strategies to determine student needs and proficiencies.

MY goal is to make a students life a little bit easier with each session by staying on top of their work and understanding the content to the best of their abilities. School can be hard and a significant stressor in a child's life and I will aim to help reduce that stress and hopefully make school more enjoyable.

As an educator with 15+years experience, I am thrilled about the opportunity to apply my skills and experience in your science teaching role. In addition to my Bachelor of Science in Biology, and Doctoral of Philosophy in Public Health allotted me the opportunity to teach students across a diverse sector ranging from middle to collegiate levels. The lesson plans I constructed and implemented consisted of identifying the learning style of each student and aligning that style to the different areas of learning. For instance pre-assessment and post-assessment were issued that consisted of science content along with the following learning styles: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and reading and writing. This approach aided in each student having a tailored made lesson plan.

I am a recent graduate from DePaul University. I received my Bachelors of Science in Biology with a focus in pre-health studies. I have experience tutoring English as a Second Language (ESL) with the Heartland Alliance in Chicago, as well as working with college students as a science tutor for the TRIO program at DePaul. I enjoy showing my students that while something may be complicated or hard, it's by no means impossible to learn. By exploring a subject from a variety of angles, true understanding and learning can occur. While my passions are for teaching biology and chemistry, I also enjoy helping students with English and improving their basic math skills. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time in nature with friends and family, reading, and cooking.

With 20 years of experience both teaching and leading in public schools, I feel I have the ability and tools to help all students, from those who excel to those who are struggling. My passions are teaching literature and writing at the high school level as well as helping students transition from high school to college. I have taught a course called College Transitions for 6 years and help my graduating seniors with topics such as organization, time management skills, study strategies, and planning for post-secondary education. I love to get to know my students so that I can better assist them in growing and learning.
