My love affair with language began in 8th grade when, as I read short stories, I saw how word-crafting could issue in what I call 3-D thinking. Good writing breathes sharp life into ideas, fosters synergy across them while creating new thought patterns for writer and reader. Throughout my 25 years of teaching and tutoring college students at an Ivy League university and at other local institutions guiding them through class essays, research projects, honors and masters theses, and graduate school personal statements--I always found joy in helping students discover what they wanted to sayand to express themselves coherently and persuasively. I hold a B.A. in English from Fordham University summa cum laude and in 1998 I earned a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In the course of completing my doctoral project after a long pause from grad school to raise my son, I cultivated the ability, and empathy, to look at academic challenges resourcefully from both sides of the desk. Given that my research on Hamlet was highly interdisciplinary-- joyous and original--I have carried that intellectual exhilaration into all my work as a lecturer, writing specialist, tutor, academic advisor and administrator, always urging students to seek out more conceptual connections and to write as integratively as possible. Currently I am working part-time by choice, but my staunch resolve that the pen is mightier than the sword remains intact and never fails to excite me. I want to share my excitement, expertise, and love of writing with you--and am ready to motivate you and empower you, as I have done so for numerous students, to write your best thinking!

I hold degrees in mechanical and aerosapce engineering as well as scientific computing from the University of Glasgow and University of Pennsylvania. Hello! I am a sophomore at Vanderbilt University, pursuing Economics and Mathematics with a minor in Data Science. My education at The Brooklyn Latin School provided a strong foundation in International Baccalaureate (IB) subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Computer Science, while my professional and research experiences have sharpened my skills in problem-solving, data analysis, and collaboration. Teaching has been a constant passion throughout my journey, as I enjoy helping students unlock their potential, particularly in reading comprehension, writing, and algebra. I believe education is the key to personal growth and societal progress, a lesson reinforced by my academic and extracurricular pursuits.

In 2022, I completed my Ph.D. in Chemistry at Vanderbilt University. My goal is to use my expertise in chemistry, algebra, and calculus to help students not only learn but also enjoy these subjects. My favorite subject to teach is general chemistry as it highlights the importance of interdisciplinary study combining, physics, math, and even biology. While my degree expertise lies in chemistry, I am equally adapt in teaching all levels of mathematics. I take pride in reinforcing mathematics concepts with tangible applications in other fields to highlight its importance and making learning interesting.

I'm a student at Yale University majoring in both Economics and Global Affairs. Over the past 4 years, I am lucky to have worked with students of all ages and helped them reach their full potential. I offer tutoring services in all subjects, and I'm particularly interested in English, Economics, Government, and Math. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a safe, welcoming environment where students can learn at their own pace. Outside of academics, I enjoy spending time outside and enjoying good food with family and friends.

After serving as an intelligence officer in the Air Force for seven years, I completed a doctoral program in American Literature at UNC-Chapel Hill. Since then, I have edited a literary journal, managed a research center, and published several peer-reviewed articles on American autobiography, fiction, and poetry. I live with my wife and three daughters in Durham, North Carolina.

I have been teaching 18- to 22-year-old students at the college level since 1995. I love imparting to them my own passion for the English language and its literary heritage, from Chaucer through our best 21st-century writers. I am particularly absorbed by the history of fiction, drama, and poetry in English, and I hope to continue to teach such love of the written word to curious students today.

I am a fun-loving fourth-year student from Vanderbilt University and look forward to working with you! I have a 36 ACT score and had a 4.0 in both high school and college. In high school, I was the valedictorian of my 450+ person class. I have a unique ability to create individualized plans for success.
