I grew up going between Los Angeles and Paris, always in a French school so I quickly became bilingual.I have always loved science, in particular physics and mathematics and have been lucky enough to share this with others through tutoring. I am currently a postdoctoral associate at Yale University conducing research in genetics/neuroscience. Throughout the years I have had many opportunities to interact with and train students. Specifically, as a graduate student I have had experience as a teaching assistant for general biology and advanced genetics lab courses, and have also tutored high school students in AP chemistry. I am a senior at Queens College majoring in Urban Studies. I am writing a thesis on South Asians living in New York City. I have spent the last two semesters mentoring kids from a local shelter every Saturday during the school year. My specialties are SAT prep, SHSAT Prep, English and Social Studies. As a tutor, I am persistent and creative in my teaching techniques. I will explore every option to teach students the material.

The title “teacher” is special to me, because great teaching inspires the imagination and frees kids to think with an open mind. This freedom of imagination let’s kids comprehend more completely who they are and who they aspire to be. It’s all about possibilities! My personal teaching style is filled with this positive urgency, humor and energy—“Let’s do it and do it now!” Be it a special education class, a remedial class or a college course, kids apply their knowledge and insights in projects. Ideas are applied to writing, mastery of mathematical processes or performance techniques.Feelings of confidence motivate kids and stretch into other parts of life—problems become challenges to tackle, rather than disappointments to avoid. Gaining mastery is supported by trust. Setting achievement goals is risky. Students need to trust their teacher and themselves. Building trust and relationships is another one of my chief strengths. I believe kids learn in a system of relationships and in a culture of learning. Building trust requires follow through—being present, prepared and in command, otherwise kids don’t take the risks. It also means adapting to individual learner’s needs. A great lesson or an appropriate challenge builds trust through understanding. I use an eclectic array of resources from graphic organizers, to drilling, to practiced editing, to sentence starters, to Cornell Notes.. All are a proven way to help structure learning tasks. Without judgment and a positive can-do frame of mind, we tackle what seems impossible!

I am a graduate of Walden University where I received a Master's in Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice. I have also obtained a Master's in Healthcare Administration with a focus in education. Currently, I perform investigations in the criminal justice field while I also work as a university professor teaching criminal justice. I have recorded textbooks for the visually impaired and tutored children whose parents lived in a homeless shelter where I volunteered. I also worked with some of the parents by helping them with budgeting, completing college essays, and helping some to improve their English skills (as I am a certified ESL instructor). While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Criminal Justice, Literature, and Psychology. One of the most important skills that I can aid students in developing is writing and thinking critically regarding the information they receive as they continue to grow throughout their educational careers. I must encourage and prepare students to be contributors in society both locally and globally as well as inspiring the need for continued research that expands conceptual understanding aimed at making a difference. I am a firm advocate of education because it has the potential to improve an individual's quality of life while both broadening and advancing one's exposure and opportunities.

I am certified to teach SpEd, Social Studies, and ELA for K-12. I have tutored adults who are studying to pass the US Citizenship test as well.I do my best to meet students wherever they are without judgment and with curiosity.I genuinely believe that a good teacher/student connection is essential for students to feel comfortable and be successful.In my "day job," I work behind the scenes to assist adults with intellectual disabilities to achieve greater independence.

Upon graduation, I joined Teach For America and returned home teaching at a public charter school in Brooklyn, NY. After this, I took the LSAT and decided to help others to achieve the same success on the LSAT that I did. I teach all aspects of the LSAT and enjoy each and every section. As a philosophy major, I enjoyed using my brain in a logical manner and have found there to be fun in tutoring the LSAT. I believe that the LSAT can and should be a fun test to study for and strive to make sure that it is enjoyable for all of my students. I prefer to just serve as a guide so the lessons that students get stick with them more. I do this by asking questions and providing enough scaffolding to have my student create their own "Aha!" moment. When I'm not tutoring, I love everything New York sports and creating new dishes to enjoy with friends and family.
