I have been tutoring with Varsity Tutors since 2018, supporting students from kindergarten through early college in subjects ranging from elementary reading to pre-algebra and business calculus. I have served as a teaching assistant for College Algebra and Business Calculus at the college level, and I am a certified secondary math teacher in Alabama, with a Florida certification in progress. I have a M.S. in Mathematics, currently teaching 6th-grade math at a public school, and this upcoming year I will be teaching Algebra with Trig and Data Finance for grades 10-12. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology at California State University, Sacramento. From there, I began working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other intellectual/developmental disabilities. I earned my Masters degree at University of the Pacific in Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis. While there, I taught research methods and statistics at the undergraduate level for 2 years. I am now finishing my PhD in Clinical/Counseling Psychology. I have completed several research projects, published research, and co-written chapters in books. Clinically, I have taught parents in several behavior strategies to help decrease their child's problem behaviors and increase acquisition of skills. I have worked with children as young as one and adults as spritely as 65. I am happy to tutor a variety of subjects (e.g., math, English, and general study/organization skills). I am determined to see a smile at every session! Additionally, I expect everyone is feeling more confident by the end than when they started. Confidence is key! I love teaching my children to be curious and confident. When I am not teaching or playing with my children, I love to read, watch Marvel or Disney movies, ride roller coasters, and go on camping/fishing trips.

I am semi-retired from a chemical import business I own and discovered a passion for teaching as a permanent floating substitute in Fulton County Schools during Covid. During substitute assignments, I experienced every elementary and middle school grade level and specialty class offered. Additionally, I now homeschool one of my children who is in 6th grade. Before that, I worked as a risk analyst at GE Capital and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of South Alabama. Over the years, even though my background has been quantitative and process management focused, I have grown to believe that any real understanding of the world is found through the humanities. While STEM subjects are very necessary on a functional level ("what and how to"), top level achievement and future personal growth comes from understanding language, history, and reasoning (why and whether). I find history the most fascinating because it relays stories about real past events that put current issues in perspective that are either directly or indirectly related.

Having experience as a teacher made joining this platform an exciting opportunity to stay in touch with education! I have experience as an adjunct professor in the biology department of an undergraduate university, as well as working with children at a marine biology summer camp. I have received a bachelor's degree in psychology, and a master's degree in biology. Currently I am in medical school, which I will complete in May 2025. I obtained an International Baccalaureate diploma in high school, and therefore feel comfortable with IB and AP material. Although I am most passionate about science and psychology, I love reading and creative writing as well!

I am a third generation math teacher who loves to work with students one on one. My favorite part of teaching is seeing that "light bulb" moment, when students truly understand the concept! I've been a tutor for over 30 years, and a full-time Instructor for 15. As a tutor, I have worked with a wide variety of students from preschool to graduate school. I tutored neurotypical and non neurotypical students in both Mathematics and Reading/Writing. I have tutored and taught a variety of test prep courses, including the ACT and Praxis Math Content Exam. I've also taught a few non-STEM courses, including Career Prep and Microsoft Office. My favorite subjects are Mathematics and Statistics, though Reading comes in a close third. As a tutor and instructor, I am aware that a significant amount of difficulty in Mathematics & Statistics originates in a fear of the subject. When working with students, I try very hard to alleviate that fear with reassurance and humor. I received my Bachelor's degrees at the University of South Alabama, along with my Master's degree in Mathematics. I have made a couple of attempts at varying PhD programs, but haven't found the right one (yet). I am currently in a graduate program for Applied Statistics. Outside of the classroom, I am passionate about reading, cooking and baking, crafting, taking care of my puppies, and nagging my adult children.
