My personal philosophy is based on the belief that every child deserves a champion and that all students can learn, just not in the same way and on the same day.

I have been a tutor for 6 years in multiple subject areas including Math and Language Arts; however, my background heavily focuses on Biology. As a tutor, it is necessary that I evaluate students' progress while strengthening their knowledge of the covered material and evaluate whether my teaching skills needed to be tailored to the student. The experience that I have gained over the years as a tutor has allowed me to understand how to clearly express the topic that I am teaching in a concise and understandable way. By doing so, I was able to motivate students to succeed in course work and standardized testing, as well as develop keen study skills.I am currently completing my doctoral research in Biology in hopes of becoming a research scientist. This training has allowed me to familiarize myself with multiple aspects of Biology including basic Biology, Microbiology, Cellular Biology and cancer biology. My duties as a Ph.D. candidate within the lab include oversight and mentoring roles of several undergraduate students. I was a biology laboratory instructor for two years while being a full-time graduate student involved in multiple laboratory projects. During this time, I participated with and assisted faculty in the development, implementation, and integration of simulation activities for biology majors and non-majors. I instructed students in selected technical aspects including dissection and provided instructional support in the simulation and skills lab. I was required to evaluate and continuously improve the effectiveness of laboratory experiment, schedule and coordinate activities for each science course, troubleshoot and resolve problems and maintain records and grades for all students.My graduate and undergraduate education has focused heavily on biological concepts and laboratory research. This training has allowed me to familiarize myself with several aspects of biology. I have also utilized a number of molecular and cellular biology techniques that apply to basic biology courses that I have taught. I spent much undergraduate time in several laboratories including internships at the Medical University of South Carolina as well as the United States Department of Agriculture/Agriculture Research Services. These opportunities have strengthened my background in biology that is not only limited to research, but exemplify my ability to instruct students in many different areas of interest.

My grandparents were vital in my upbringing as a child. At first, I wanted to be a nurse and realized it wasn't for me. So, I decided to go back to school and obtain my certification in education. I am a graduate of Georgia Southern University, Augusta University, Cambridge College, and South Carolina State University. I have served in a number of positions throughout my educational journey: teacher, assistant principal, principal, and adjunct instructor.

I am a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina-Columbia where I received an M.A. in Spanish and a Master's in Library Science. I have taught Spanish in elementary schools and universities in South Carolina although I now live in beautiful Colorado. I am very passionate about the Spanish language and I believe that helping people learn Spanish helps bridge the gap between cultures. I have high expectations for my students and I work hard so that they can meet their goals. I am an avid soccer fan and I enjoy watching matches in the Barclays Premier League, UEFA Champions' League and MLS.

We all learn differently. Finding "your" way is the key to elevating your skills in a certain area. Learning is a "forever" skill. My goal is to find the best way for the individual to retain what they want to learn! Geralisa E Tutor I would describe my style as hands-on and enaging. I am a certified teacher in grades 7-12 and currently work with Middle School Students. My teaching styles differentiates for the needs of the students I am teaching. What I really appreciate about one-on-one tutoring is that if one thing is not working, we can always try something else. I know that during the day students are normally reading material they are forced to read; and so I try to bring in topics that interest them so that they can focus on their individual skills while also enjoying what we are working on. However, not every session is all fun and games; we use technology-based programs to focus on the skills they need to excel in HS. Some of my students come with hw and projects that we work on; while with others, I use my diagnostic results to focus on problem areas. I also emphasized grammar and punctuation, especially for students that struggle with learning opportunities. I find that breaking down the words and understanding the underlying function assists students with understanding how to broaden their vocabulary.

My philosophy is simple. We all have something to learn from each other. As the teacher, I contribute to the learning process, but so do the students. We have our own way of thinking that drives the way that we learn. Some of us my learn with music, some may learn by dancing, some by doing and others by watching. It is imperative for me to know my students on a level where I understand them, and they understand who I am so that we equally learn. Learning will be inclusive to the way we learn, with an emphasis on hands-on learning experiences.I am coming to the end of pursuing my Master's of Arts in Teaching Special Education. I have a Mechanical Engineering background with 10 years of experience as a professional engineer for both large corporations as well as privately owned businesses. I served as a Student Athletic Tutor during my enrollment in undergraduate school, where I tutored fellow student athletes in math and science, which is where I realized I had a passion for helping others learn. I became a Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Tutor for Title-1 Schools in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools District which only increased my passion to help those who want to learn.I have 5+ years of experience tutoring both middle and high school students in multiple math subjects with a focus on Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry for various after school enrichment programs.The look of gratification and achievement that is a direct result of a student realizing their own learning potential provides me with great satisfaction. Also outside of academia I enjoy video games , sports and music.
