I believe that learning and education is a life-long pursuit. Students need to be successful and good teachers give students these tools. Learning though is a two way street where every student needs to share the burden of success with the teacher. One of the greatest assets a teacher can instill in a students is the love of learning. When the student want to learn and feels the rewards of learning, the education process becomes that much more rewarding.

No one learns anything unless they feel comfortable and understood. I'm a writer by trade, and my job is to understand who a character is so I know why and how they do what they do. When I work with a student, I try to understand how they see things first; it helps me to see from their perspective, and it helps me to understand how to help them see from another perspective. Most students have the potential to do better than they are, they just haven't been told in terms that make sense to them. That's what I'm here to do.
I am a graduate of Allegheny College (BA) and Sierra Nevada College (MAT). I received my Bachelor of Arts in Music and my Master of Arts in Teaching. I taught Kindergarten right after graduation and enjoyed successful careers in piano and organ sales and store management as well as real estate sales. Later, I returned to school to get certified to teach secondary math. I earned my MAT and earned over 40 credits in mathematics in order to earn certification. I enjoy every aspect of math and love helping those who think they can't do math or aren't good at math. I love finding ways that math connects with real life and use a lot of hands on activities when appropriate. I believe in developing a lifetime learning mindset and always look for new things to learn. In my spare time, I enjoy exploring the parks in my area, cheering for my favorite hockey team, and choral singing. I believe that keeping my body healthy keeps my brain healthy so I make healthy eating and my CrossFit workouts a priority.
I am a special education teacher, I have been working with students with disabilities for 8 years. I teach math, ELA, and tutor in all subjects I believe all students can learn. I believe that everyone is important, that meeting students where they are is the best way to encourage them to move forward to where they want to be.
I graduated in 2010 from the College of Education at UNLV with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. I also studied for and obtained an endorsement in Teaching English as a Second Language at Sierra Nevada College. Presently I am studying for a Masters Degree in Education at Southern Utah UniversityI am a native Spanish speaker, so I am familiar with all the intricacies of the Spanish language: its grammar, its structure, and its proper pronunciation. When working with students I like to tailor a learning program that adapts to the student's needs, strengths and learning style. I cover both practical applications and grammar structure (a little grammar goes a long way!) I also take into consideration the age of the student and the learner's interests and motivations. I am fully bilingual and I know from personal experience what is like to learn a foreign language. I am a high school teacher in a magnet school of Northwest Las Vegas. For seven years I have taught Spanish and English to children and adults. I am ready to start when you are!
As an Elementary school teacher for 9 years, an instructional coach for 2 and an Assistant Principal for 3 years; I've found that my passion for (and commitment to teaching) have only grown with every year. Even with the complexities of the current educational landscape, the feeling of helping advanced students achieve their goals never gets old. I have dedicated my professional life to helping students of all levels master the skills and concepts they need to move forward in their educational path. I have found that motivating and engaging kids of all different backgrounds has become a passion and I thrive on helping others find their fire from within and guide them to achieve their highest dreams and goals. My beliefs are based on integrity, quality, and service, along with a positive attitude, an aptitude for strategic thought and planning, and the ability to adapt quickly to new ideas and situations. This allows me to achieve consistent and significant successes in all types of learning platforms.
