I grew up in Chicago where I received a large scholarship to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. I have a passion for entrepreneurship and within a year of graduating from MSU started my first company (I am now on my second). I have always valued education but at times saw that teaching methods did not adapt appropriately to the student. There is more than one way to learn material. Because of that I hope to spend some time with students, helping them get the test scores that will allow them to get into their dream school. Throughout my high school and college career I gained extensive experience in tutoring members of my rugby team, fellow classmates and friends. Regarding the subjects I have taught- I am familiar with math all the way up to Algebra 2 (including ACT and SAT Math), I have helped many students prepare for the SAT and ACT. Many times smart students have issues with standardized tests due to improper test taking strategies. Every student has unique strengths and weaknesses, I focus on refining those strengths, minimizing those weaknesses and combining the proper test taking strategies in order to achieve the scores that student needs to get into the school they want.

I am a joyful, kind hearted, and a professionally trained educator. I am extremely passionate about teaching. I am a great communicator and love to work with kids. I have three years of experience in tutoring Kinder through 5th grade students. I love creating lesson plans that serves the individual needs of my students. Students whom I teach performs very well in the subjects that they need help with. I have had three careers: non-profit management, for-profit management, and teaching. It is teaching that has been the most rewarding and enjoyable for me, but having experience in the others means that I know what employers are looking for. I earned my B.A. in Economics from the University of North Dakota Summa Cum Laude, with minors in History, Sociology and Political Science, and a Master of Education from Montana State University with a GPA of 4.0. I have also taken classes from Macalester College in St. Paul and the University of Minnesota, so I know what colleges are looking for. I have raised three children, all of whom graduated from institutions of higher learning and now have successful careers. I have been lucky to have traveled widely, to all the inhabited continents except Australia, including three years of teaching at the American School in Georgetown, Guyana, so I can bring informative and fun views and examples to our studies.

I am in my 13th year of teaching high school social studies. I have taught many subjects within my department, but my passion is U.S. History, and Geography. I have experience in all levels of these subject areas (remedial through Advanced Placement). I enjoy getting to know my students and using their unique interests to make content more accessible and exciting! I love reading, hiking and playing with my rock band after school!

I am a graduate of Montana State University, with a degree in Mathematics and a focus in Secondary Education. After graduating, I moved to Arizona to start my career as an educator, where I have taught Algebra I and Algebra II. Prior to graduating, I spent countless hours tutoring students of various readiness levels in subjects ranging from 5th grade math to Calculus. I student taught in a 7th/8th grade math classroom. My favorite math to tutor is any algebra because it is such common and useful tool that anyone will use for the rest of life! I am very passionate about finding ways to help students understand the real-world connections we can make to mathematics, and how we can relate it to each individual. I am a strong advocate for the importance of a mathematics education because math is a common language around the world, and it helps us to develop logical problem-solving skills. Outside of the classroom and tutoring, I enjoy spending time outdoors either hiking or sitting by the pool, baking, reading, and watching college football!

I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from beautiful Montana State in Bozeman, MT. I worked for four years in a quantum photonics lab developing cryogenic experiments studying the solid state behavior of DNA and RNA nucleotide. Additionally, I worked in a material processing lab optimizing the synthesis size of gold nano-rods and began developing starting materials for non-linear optics liquid crystals polymers. I tutored various chemistry subjects through a free service for the students at Montana State. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to work one-on-one with students. Chemistry is a complex subject and developing a students learning style and being able to adapt the information to the students needs is extremely important. Everyone learns in a slightly different way and I feel that my diverse knowledge in chemistry allows me help students look at the problem in the way that suits there learning style best. I also use a lot of visualization techniques to help bring the ideas to a more concrete realm. I moved to Montana after high school for the beauty and outdoors that it offered. I am also a fanatic snowboarder and I love snow camping out in the woods at 8,000 feet. =) I try to keep balance in my life. I look to art as my creative outlet and that allows me to balance all this wonderful science that I love.

I am from Montana originally and grew up on my parents farm/ranch that they still own and operate. I graduated from Montana State University with a BA in Philosophy with a religious studies option. I love learning about the world and helping others to do the same. However, my first love was science and math. I tutored college statistics and freshman chemistry for two years at MSU. I want to continue to tutor math and science at the primary and secondary level alongside philosophy. My personal philosophy on education is that we are all both students and teachers and we all continually learn from and teach one another. Teachers and tutors act to facilitate new discoveries, and the best teachers strive to develop a personal learning strategy for each student so they may succeed themselves.I've served two AmeriCorps service terms after college and recently moved to Portland May 2014 to seek new opportunities.
