I have always lived by the Golden Rule, to treat everyone the way you want to be treated. This is not a difficult task for me to support. I have always had a mindset of equality and fairness. My exposure to various races and ethnicities has always taught me to do right by others. This is no different than how I manage my classroom or conduct me anywhere I may find myself. This is important that everyone is cordial and respectful to one another. Holding this rule in mind makes me a better educator and an all-around better human being.I absolutely love making sure each student that I encounter, whether individually or in a group setting, understands the concept that there can be "fun in learning".I have taught English in all sectors - middle school, high, and even college-level courses. I love to read and write, and all that goes along with those concepts. I adore bringing English to life - especially since a few other disciplines think that English (language as a whole) is not a critical subject - and this is why I am so enamored with teaching this subject."Without English Language Arts, where would we be?"

I am a recent college graduate from Mercer University in May of 2014. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and I hope to begin attending school to become a Physician Assistant in August 2015. I recently moved to Houston and I am loving the chance to explore a brand new city. I just married the woman of my dreams on August 31, 2014. She is an emergency room nurse at Memorial Hermann Southwest Medical Center. My passion is for lifelong learning and particularly how it relates to medicine and the human body. I think that it is essential for young people to have someone in their life who is excited about learning and who can impart that passion to them. I strive to be a tutor who accomplishes this goal.I have numerous hobbies which I like to partake in whenever given the chance. I enjoy playing and watching all different sports, but primarily find time to play basketball. I am very interested in fitness and health and enjoy cooking in my spare time. I also enjoy playing games on my Wii and PC, as well as reading all different genres of literature. In high school I spent a great deal of time volunteering to tutor elementary students in a variety of subjects including reading, writing, arithmetic, science, and Latin. I college I was primarily a tutor for introductory chemistry, biology, and math. I also volunteered tutoring math and science to 5th and 3rd graders while in college and enjoyed it greatly. My favorite subjects to tutor are elementary math and science because I think it is essential to get young students excited in these subjects as early as possible. I strive to make the tutoring process as fun as possible while maintaining a focus on the material. I think it is important to help the students become independent learners and encourage them to be able to use logic to learn to material. More than anything, I want to help my students become effective critical thinkers and to show them how exciting learning can be.

I am passionate about helping students because I believe that they are not only our future but they deserve to be the best they can without limitations. My experience working with students has been being a substitute teacher on and off for the past year and a half and homeschooling my children for three years. I have faced numerous challenges with them and learned a lot in how to accommodate their learning needs both being Autistic and having combined ADHD. I have been with Varsity Tutors for the past 2 years and love working with a multitude of different students while watching them grow! I received my Bachelor of Science degree in 2023 from Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia with a background in Early Childhood/Special Education and finished off in Mental Health. I enjoy teaching ELA especially to K-5 because these are the most important years to develop critical skills needed to succeed in the future. I believe that in order to help a child learn more effectively that it is important to make the lessons relatable. Helping students empathize with characters, places and concepts, especially when those things are different from their own life experiences improves their ability to comprehend the material. In addition, I feel that allowing children to utilize their imaginations through writing and drawings inhibits growth mindset which if vital for development. When children are engaged, they are more willing to learn. I cannot wait to start working with you and watching you grow while becoming more confident in yourself!

After teaching for fifteen years from grade six to college level students there is one truth I have learned. Learning can only occur if the student has a point of reference. As teachers we have the responsibility to evaluate our student's level of knowledge and to increase their level of understanding, comprehension, analysis, and diagnosis of the subject we teach. Furthermore, I believe that a teacher is morally obligated to enter the classroom with only the highest of expectations for each and every one of her students. Thus, the teacher maximizes the positive benefits that naturally come along with any self-fulfilling prophecy. With dedication, perseverance, and hard work, her students will rise to the occasion. I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day. I believe that I owe it to my students, as well as the community, to bring consistency, diligence, and warmth to my job in the hope that I can ultimately inspire and encourage such traits in the children as well.

Also, I was an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher during undergraduate school.Beginning Spanish and ESL are my only tutoring subjects. I love tutoring Spanish because it is a beautiful language with a vibrant culture. Practically speaking I tutor Spanish because in today's world it is beneficial to be bilingual. Which is why I also enjoy teaching ESL. Another reason I enjoy teaching ESL is it increases my tutoring capabilities of Spanish.I would describe my tutoring style as personal. When I was a student, my best teachers were the ones who listened to their students needs and taught us in the most helpful manner possible.Outside of work, I enjoy listening to live music, pretty much any kind of live music. I love reading supernatural, sarcastic, and historical books. And I absolutely love movies. I am a big fan of all the superhero movies and shows coming out as of late. I got my bachelors in mathematics form Columbus State University and am currently getting my Masters of Arts in Teaching from Mercer University. I have been a private tutor for the past six years, and I worked as a tutor for my university for 4 and a half years. While I was there, I was part of starting a new program to help students that tested into prealgebra classes. After graduation, I worked as an assistant center director at a Mathnasium for about 8 months, until graduate school led to a time conflict. I tutor almost every type of high school or college math, from algebra to Calculus and differential equations, but I have worked with students as young as first grade, which allows me to help students when they are struggling with concepts that are needed in order to work on their current subject. I love tutoring all types of math. I think that everyone can learn math, and that the key is to get to know the students learning style and to explain concepts in the way that makes the most sense to them. You can tutor five different students over the exact same concept, and each session will be different because how I teach depends on the student. I am an all around nerd, so I love puzzles and reading and things like that. I also love crafting as well as wood working and painting.
