As a tutor the ultimate goal is making learning fun and easy to understand. Subjects like science and math can be explained in ways that everyone can understand so my goal is to gain knowledge on how to effectively tutor each student the way THEY learn best.

Enabling students to grasp the foundational knowledge and skills that they will use for the rest of their lives is a wonderful gift. Good education is, in my belief, the single most important thing we can pass on to the younger generation. I am very motivated to equip young minds to learn more about the academic world, introducing them to Mathematics, English, and Science. Equally important to convey are life skills including treating others with respect, working in teams, and learning how to be fit and healthy. My experience tutoring is rooted in anywhere from elementary to college-aged students. Through the RISE for Success Program at my undergraduate institution, I have been able to gain an adept understanding of how many college students learn material. Through various tutoring opportunity as a team leader during summer camp I have also developed several methods for tutoring/teaching new material to student ages 10-17. Each of these experiences has revealed that no two students learn exactly the same and that each lesson must essentially be catered to the specific student and subject. As a medical student, I am a firm believer that an essential part of patient care is quality patient education. In school, more education translates into better opportunities, and in life, education provides greater control over ones circumstances. Meaningful patient education can have a parallel effect. Tutoring inspires me to set my own personal goals of listening and communicating more clearly in my day-to-day interactions with the hope that one day as a practicing physician I will be able to hone these skills and thereby empower my patients to be in control of their health as well through educating them.
I am passionate about helping students because I had people invest in me when I struggled in school when I was younger. Now I want to pay it forward, so my future career goal is to become a college professor and continue research in molecular biology. I earned my Bachelor of Science at Arizona State University in Biochemistry with a minor in Global Health and a doctorate in Biomedical Science from Meharry Medical College. I have experience in tutoring high school, college, and graduate school students. I tutor sciences such as biology (high school/college), cell biology, chemistry (high school/college), and biochemistry; math courses (algebra and geometry) and help with college admissions and application essays. My teaching philosophy is that since everyone's learning style and capability is unique, I must learn to adapt new ways of teaching to cover a broad range of students. Also, to lead by example, using real-world examples. My interests outside of academia are dance, cooking, and hiking/walking.
I am a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I am currently a second year medical student at Meharry Medical College. I developed a love of tutoring during my gap year before medical school, where I tutored undergraduate students in Organic Chemistry and General Biology. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Anatomy/Physiology, General Biology, and Microbiology. In my experience, helping struggling students prepare for exams, the learning happens when we can break down a practice problem and focus in on "high-yield" and testable information together. I am a firm proponent in learning my students' learning style best, so during my first session with students, I like to get to know them and how they learn to help guide their tutoring sessions. I am looking forward to potentially working with you and helping you achieve your goals!
