I taught AP Human Geography for 4 years at the high school level, and IB Social and Cultural Anthropology SL for 12 years . Since retiring last June, I found that I missed student contact and the chance to help students achieve their goals. I had excellent test score results for both AP Human Geography and IB Social and Cultural Anthropology SL. Therefore, tutoring seems to offer an opportunity to continue doing what I love, but on a part-time basis.

I am passionate about helping students because I believe every student is capable of learning, but not every student learns in the same way. While some students may thrive in a traditional academic setting, some students may require more individual attention in order for them to unlock their full potential achievements.I have worked with students as a public school teacher, a private tutor, as a coach, and as a camp counselor. What I have learned from working with students through these different venues is that regardless of the topic, planting the seeds of curiosity and confidence is the best way to get students engaged in something. When students are curious about something, they want to find out more about it. When they feel confident that they are able to take that knowledge and share it with others, it continues to keep their interest.I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies from Marshall University, and my Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Liberty University. I currently tutor all Social Studies courses, such as AP World History, English Language Arts courses, such as AP English Literature, test prep for exams like the SAT and ACT, as well as some Math subjects such as Algebra, Geometry, and Science subjects such as Biology, Earth Science, and Geology. My favorite subject to tutor is either World History or Human Geography. I really enjoy these courses because of the scope of their content. My teaching philosophy is all about individualizing my instructional practice to best help the individual student. Whether that is restating questions on assessments in a different manner for them to better understand, or using examples that relate to the students individual interests and ties into the academic subject matter.Outside of academia, I enjoy cooking, camping, and playing sports. I also enjoy spending time with my dogs, having a bonfire with my friends, and going to ball games.
