I graduated from Lipscomb University with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology, and from Volunteer State Community College with an Associate of Arts, focusing on English. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to use what I've learned to help struggling students. I see tutoring as a mutually beneficial relationship; my students can hone and strengthen their weak points, and I can hone my teaching skills and get more comfortable teaching in different ways, as every student is unique. I teach English as well as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry. In my free time, I enjoy reading (fantasy is my favorite genre, but I can't get enough of reading about outer space and our universe), doing logic puzzles, editing stories, and a good adventure game every now and then.

I am a graduate of David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee and the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama. I received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Lipscomb, and a Masters of Arts in Library Media from UWA. I taught several middle school and secondary school English in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for twenty-five years before becoming a Library Media Specialist. I worked for five years in the Library Media Center for a local middle school before my retirement.I developed a desire for teaching when I was in the 4th grade. My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Barnett, used many techniques years before they became popular. She used Study Buddies and small groups in order to ensure that her students learned the material they were assigned.In 2006, I was selected as a Walmart Teacher of the Year. I was presented a $1,000.00 check to purchase supplies for my students. Additionally, I received a $50.00 gift card to be used for my personal use.I enjoy spending time with my family, especially on Sundays when we all gather at our house for Sunday dinner. I also enjoy quilting, sewing, and reading.

I began tutoring as a senior in high school with a fifth-grade student at a local elementary school. After loving the experience, I continued spending my time mentoring in college through a program called Reading Friends. After graduating college, I joined Teach for America and began teaching at a middle school in Nashville. Last year I taught Social Studies, and this year I moved into teaching literacy. I will continue in this position next year as well.Not only do I have extensive experience tutoring and mentoring, but I also have experience that is varied. I have worked with different age groups under various settings, such as a more academic one in my own classroom and others that were more for guidance as with my college and high school experiences.

I owe much of the academic success I've enjoyed to the teachers I had at Smyrna High School, where I graduated as Valedictorian in May 2013.I took several AP classes which pushed and helped me to become a National Merit Finalist. After graduation from high school, I was awarded a full-scholarship to Lipscomb University, where I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering. I hope to use my studies to help those in the 3rd world with the necessities we take for granted.As a tutor, I believe the most important thing I can do for you is to push you to think on your own. I've tutored students before who simply wanted me to do their work for them, but that will not help you to learn at all. If you want to become self-sufficient, I will help you reach your goals. I tutor many high school and college level math/science courses including Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Differential Equations, and Physics. I have attained a 3.85 GPA in my 5 semesters at Lipscomb.Outside of school, you will often find me working on my car, photographing nature, or fishing. I cultivated a love of fixing things early on in college, and I refuse to pay a mechanic something that I enjoy doing myself. Getting outside is very important to me, especially since I tend to be cooped up in my dorm during the school year. Photography and fishing allow me to experience the alone time in fresh air that I need.

After graduating Sycamore High School in Cincinnati, OH in 2016, I am currently a sophomore at Lipscomb University. I am working towards getting my Bachelor's degree in social work, with plans to obtain a Master's in school counseling.For a year and a half, I spent two days a week with a middle school-aged student. I helped her complete homework and study for tests of various subjects, including math and Spanish. My favorite subject to tutor is definitely Spanish because it has always been my favorite subject in school. It was something that I always enjoyed, and I loved to learn more about the language.With tutoring, I like to give the student a chance to show me what he or she knows first, so I can get an idea of what level the student is working at. If they are struggling in specific areas, I will work closely with them until it seems like they are starting to understand the content. If they just need a push in the right direction, I will be there to do that, but if they need content retaught to them, then I will provide that help as well.I don't know if I have any "hobbies," per se, but I enjoy baking, playing board games with my family and friends. I also enjoy traveling and becoming familiar with new places. I was raised to love baseball, and it's on my bucket list to visit every MLB park in America!I would describe myself as patient, and laid-back. I am simply here to help students where they're struggling, I am not here to get frustrated when someone may not understand the material! I am hopeful and confident that anyone can learn, but we just all learn differently.

I am a Senior at Lipscomb University majoring in Political Science and International Relations. I also have a minor in Philosophy and Criminal Justice. I was born and raised in Colombia, so as a native Spanish speaker I have the knowledge and experience to teach this language, and as a college student I know the way students want to be approached and the importance of the involvement of the students in a class.I love tutoring History and politics, but especially Spanish, and I want to assist my students in reaching their full potential and achieving their goals, as well as in providing new ideas and perspectives for them.I want my tutoring sessions to be a dialogue because I think the best way to learn, especially a new language, is through a casual conversation with lots of questions asked by the student and by me, therefore I think it is really important to know closely the process the student is going through and provide particular approaches to particular situations.I've had experience in tutoring before. For a couple of months I volunteered to teach English to elementary school children in Colombia. I think that has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, because as a tutor you not only teach but you also learn from your students. Interacting with those children definitely opened my mind and made me want to share the knowledge I have with other people and at the same time learning from what the people have to teach me.
