I am so excited for the opportunity to become your Varsity Tutors teacher! My name is Jaclyn and I have been working with students of all ages for the past 8+ years! I also hold a Master of Arts degree in Teaching with a teaching licensure. I am passionate about teaching my students where they are at, and bringing them to where they want to be. Learning is supposed to be fun, and it is not a race. We all learn at our own paces and have our own strengths. That is why my teaching method starts by teaching to the individual. My classes act as a supportive community to build on skills and explore interests with students who share the similar passions! I look forward to the opportunity of meeting with you and developing a positive atmosphere that is conducive to our learning!

I have always been enthusiastic about school and learning since elementary school. Although school did not always come easily for me, I learned the value of hard work and asking for help when I needed it. Since elementary school, I have always enjoyed math and science classes the most.After graduating college in North Dakota, I moved to New York City to pursue my education degree. I taught middle school math for seven years at all grade levels. This experience provided me the opportunity to work with many different students and I learned that each student is extremely unique. In 2011, I moved back to Minnesota and taught both special education and general education students again focusing mainly on teaching math.I believe that all students can learn and I have experienced this firsthand. I have high expectations for each student I teach and work hard to learn individual learning styles and life interests. By building relationships in this way, I believe that real learning takes place.

I was once told by an administrator that I have the ability to reach students that others struggled to reach and motivate, oftentimes at-risk students, and I found this one of the highest compliments of my career. I find it my greatest goal to make sure that all students, from those seeking the highest standards to those struggling with basic skills, can understand themselves, can define their abilities, and can work forward to becoming all that they are meant to be.My years of teaching experience have helped prepare me with two important abilities: seeing language arts as a means to develop students' awareness and ability to communicate more effectively, and a greater appreciation for the individual student through balanced and effective classroom teaching and management. I teach because I have a passion for teaching, but mostly, because I care about reaching and inspiring each student from a wide array of backgrounds and abilities.

I am excited to be a part of learning, transferring knowledge and the wonder of the creative experience.My background has been in Human Resources and for the last two years I have been working in education. I have a degree in English and French from the University of Minnesota. My current pursuit is a Master's of Education and Licensure (K -12) through Concordia University.I hope to be able to make learning exciting, engaged and understandable.

Originally from central Minnesota, I earned my BA from Hamline University in 2013 with a degree in English, a concentration in creative writing, minors in women's studies and psychology, and a certificate in teaching English as a foreign language. When I wasn't working on academics, I wrote for the newspaper, served as a new student mentor with transfer students, and worked at a toy store in a nearby mall. Currently, I'm working toward my MA in early childhood education from Concordia University. I also take Spanish classes.After tutoring middle and high school students in math, social studies, literature, writing, and Spanish during my undergrad, I completed a year of service with Minnesota Reading Corps as an elementary school literacy tutor. Now I work as a preschool teacher in a Spanish-English dual immersion preschool; I co-teach a class of 17 three and four year olds.Beyond academics, I love to bike around the Twin Cities, find new nooks to explore, read, and practice yoga. I've traveled to Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Panama, and hope to see more of Central and South America soon. I write and perform poetry, and coach a team of college slam poets. I'm interested in building positive, mutual mentoring relationships with those I tutor.

I have made fitness my lifestyle and live it on a daily basis. My years as a trainer, fitness manager, general manager and regional manager in health clubs gives me additional insight that i pass on to my students. As a student you will get tips that will enhance your career. Even as I age I continually stay on the cutting edge of the industry and will help you with concepts that you will be able to apply for years to come. I have an extremely high pass rate with the students I tutor. My approach is to discuss with the student their needs and goals with the tutoring, from here i will put together a plan to work with them to achieve the aforementioned goals and objectives. I have created outlines of each chapter from the textbooks that i tutor and will share this information with the student . In addition we will learn the concepts needed for the learning process as well as the science of the body. So in summary the student will learn not only the what but as well the why behind it.

Learning is a passion of mine. I retired in December 2018 from full-time teaching to have a more flexible schedule to attend to my husband's health needs. I did not realize how quickly I would miss it! I want to help people succeed in the classroom. The moment a student realizes they now understand a concept is priceless. One of my greatest joys is when a student who has struggled says they now think math is fun!

I am a graduate of Westfield State University with my Bachelors of Art in Moderate/Mild Special Education K-8. I have been teaching for 5 years as both a resource Special Education Teacher and an Intensive Special Education Teacher in an Alternative School. Most recently, I have graduated with my Master's Degree from Concordia University at St. Paul in Special Education concentrated on Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. I am passionate about creating a safe and inclusive environment where students feel welcomed and supported. I believe this is necessary for learning to occur. I most enjoy teaching Reading, as it opens immense possibilities and worlds for students to enter, and Writing as it helps students express themselves in a new way. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy exploring the ocean with my family at the beach or on a sailboat.
