I am a sophomore at Columbia University, studying political science and philosophy. I often like to joke that teaching runs in my blood I come from a family of teachers who instilled in me the passion to help others learn. Since I could grasp concepts I learned in school, I've always gone out of my way to help my fellow classmate. As I got older, that became formalized tutoring through school organizations and I eventually worked for the New York City Department of Education. There, I helped students with their standardized testing for the state assessments and the SAT. I love teaching math because I feel it's the subject where I can gauge the strength of my students best. Math is such a versatile (though widely-hated) subject, where every unique learning style can always result in the same answer. I also get the most freedom when it comes to designing questions to help students grow and practicing alongside them easily the most fun part of a tutoring session with me. I'm never shy when it comes to tutoring anything else, though, whether it be any sort of history, literature, or government-related topic. My goal as a tutor is not all about teaching anything new to my students, but instead drawing out the skills they already have.

I am an undergraduate student at Barnard College majoring in Urban Studies and minoring in Spanish. In 2017, I set out to become fluent in Spanish by spending a lot of time in Latin America... and I succeeded! No matter your level, I can help you improve your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in Spanish. I have a strong foundation in Spanish grammar, having many years of formal schooling, exams, and textbooks under my belt. As a native speaker of English, I excel at demystifying grammatical elements that differ significantly from their equivalents in English. From my life experiences I'm also familiar with the more-complex layers of the language which are not taught in school. I will be happy to share with you all the tips and tricks that I have learned in the course of my own journey. Most importantly, I hope to foster in my students the enthusiasm and motivation to continue learning this beautiful and rich language.

As an undergraduate, I began to see a huge need to help the international community within our city learn and understand English to help provide a foundation for a better future. I first began helping fellow university students by being a conversation partner and later into teaching basic classes for the refugees in our community. In 2019 I taught ESL online through VIP Kid which helped seal a passion for younger learners. In 2020 I completed the CELTA certification and began working at a language school in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Since 2020 I have taught young learners and have helped them develop a passion for learning. I take a learner-centered approach and try to make the language-learning process as engaging as possible. I want to see students make their learning process their own. While at this language school, I saw I could better help my students by completing an M.A. in TESOL. I completed that degree from Biola University in May of 2023.

I am a graduate of Columbia International University, with a Masters in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I have experience tutoring in all elementary subjects, and my favorite subjects to tutor are reading and social studies. After graduating, I worked as a tutor in a third grade classroom for a year, helping those students who were struggling with their schoolwork. I have a passion for learning and helping students learn and grow. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy writing, reading, doing puzzles, and spending quality time with those I care about.
