My name is MaryJane! I am a physics and chemistry major finishing my senior year of undergrad. After graduation, I plan to pursue a graduate degree in biomedical engineering.

I believe that community care is one of the foundations for growth. Having been supported by my family and friends throughout my life, I know that I wouldn't be the person I am without their support. Through them, I was taught to always give when I have the means and I believe that is seen through my work as an educator.I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in the subjects of Creative Writing and Film Studies. Currently, I am in the process of applying to graduate schools to study Art Therapy and become a professional Youth Art Therapist as I believe that early intervention and an increased focus on mental health and wellness, can lead to healthier, more communicative, emotionally mature individuals.As an educator, I believe that knowledge of a subject isn't solely what's important. Rather than simply fostering "knowing" in my students, I intend to focus on giving students the tools and skills needed to strengthen their understanding of a subject. By working with a growth mindset, I can meet students where they are and work with them to help raise their understanding. I believe that highlighting student strengths, understanding their learning style, and making the material more relatable helps to foster a better understanding of the subject matter at hand.

My job isn't just to work with your child to help them academically; my hope is always to help students see how magical, fun, and powerful learning is. My 'day job' is in book publishing, and so I've perfected my approach to bettering students' understandings, enjoyment, and comprehension of what they are learning in their reading and writing courses. I graduated from Coe College with a Bachelor's degree in Spanish. Upon completion of my undergraduate degree I attended and graduated from Ashford University with a Masters in education where I also specialized in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Currently, I am pursuing a degree in law. I am a licensed Spanish teacher, and I taught two years of high school Spanish in Iowa. I also spent a summer teaching English to adults in Barcelona, Spain. I would say, however I have the strongest passion for tutoring Spanish because I believe it so important to learn to a second language. My teaching philosophy is that you're never too old or too young to learn. Therefore I like to better my tutoring by focusing on the best way to relate to students of different ages and levels because we don't all learn the same. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy sports. I am an avid fan of college and professional basketball, and I play soccer on adult recreational teams. I also, play the guitar and piano, and I love to go to the movies.

I believe that a good education is a fundamental right for any child regardless of their learning style. We all have different minds, it's just a matter of figuring out what fits you best.

I graduated from Coe College in May 2022. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and Creative Writing. In my time at Coe College, I worked as a Sociology tutor and an Executive Function Coach. During this time, I worked with multiple students to create personalized study schedules and techniques. I am passionate about tutoring in Writing and Sociology. Our words hold power, and figuring out the best way to deliver these words is an exciting and rewarding process that I would like to help cultivate. Sociology is all about connecting history, individual biography, and social structures to figure out the way the world works. As a dyslexic writer, I know the struggles students can encounter when trying to tackle tough subjects. I believe in letting students explore their interests and personalities in order to make learning fun while supporting them through difficult concepts to encourage mastery.

I have been a tutor for seven years. My favorite subjects to tutor are math(particularly Algebra), English, and writing. I usually teach grades K-12. I love helping kids become leaders in an ever-changing world! I listen very carefully to students to find their exact needs before I attempt any lesson plan.
