I have been privileged to be a teacher for the past 41 years. I graduated from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota with an Elementary Education degree, and a math minor. I earned a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with a Math Specialist focus from Black Hills State University in South Dakota. I taught elementary grades 3, 5 and 6 for the first 8 years of my career. When I started teaching Middle School, I was able to concentrate on my passion, which is math. I taught 6th grade math for 21 years and 8th grade math for 6 years. The last three years of my teaching career I was a part-time math interventionist and an Online Math instructor, utilizing the Edgenuity Online program.I believe all students can learn. It is the responsibility of the instructor to provide opportunities for success and guidance in solving problems. There are many ways to approach math problem-solving. I support students in developing the math skills needed at each grade level and in applying those skills to problems they encounter. Through my years of teaching, I have learned how to assess student errors and help to alleviate them. I developed and taught a supplemental Math Enrichment program for At-Risk math students as a 6th grade math teacher. Students not only developed specific skills but also gained the confidence needed to be willing to attempt math problems.I am a patient, caring teacher who will evaluate a student's needs before addressing ways to improve their skills. I am confident in my ability to tutor math at all grade levels, as well as English/Language Arts and Social Studies.

I have been working in education for the last 20 years. During this time I have taught a variety of Math and Science classes. I am currently certified in the state of Arizona in General Science, Biology, and Mathematics.I graduated with honors from University of Phoenix (MAEd - Curriculum and Technology), Black Hills State University (BS - Mathematics with a Minor in Middle School Education), and George Washington University (BS - Health Science). Specific tutoring experience includes working with students in my classes, Sylvan Learning, and after school preparation classes for SAT). I have tutor Mathematics from basic level high school math to college trigonometry and science classes including biology, chemistry, and general science. My favorite classes are mathematics, especially the higher level math because it challenges me also. I also enjoy tutoring math because so many students have a "block" when it comes to math and to see them get to understand it is amazing, not only for me, but especially for the student. When I tutor students they are the driving force. How I approach them depends on their understanding and participation. I ask many questions to guide them along until they learn the process of solving the problems. Students must be able to relate one kind of problem to the next. What are the similarities and what are the differences? What strategies can be used? There are often multiple strategies, what is the best one for the student? I truly feel that all students can grasp the concepts of mathematics to a given degree.As far as hobbies I enjoy boating, swimming, books, movies, and riding a motorcycle.

I recently graduated from Adelphi University with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Playwriting Emphasis), and I have a B.S. in Theater from Black Hills State University. I moved around a lot as a child, and I have lived in eight different states including Florida, California, Ohio and South Dakota. I tutor a variety of English-related subjects. I love all aspects of reading and writing, but I have a special fondness for grammar and mechanics. I like to think of punctuation as musical notation, and I love the process of figuring out which words and symbols best serve what I am trying to say. Writing is an agent for self-expression, and I am passionate about helping students to master it. The way that I go about this is dependent on each student's personal strengths, which I asses and then build upon. In addition to tutoring, I also teach Creative Writing and English Composition at Adelphi University. In my spare time, I love to explore NYC. I see as much theater as I can fit into my schedule. I also love visiting the city's museums and parks.

I am a graduate of Black Hills State University and University of Alaska, Anchorage. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Special Education and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Since graduation, I have taught and lead schools in South Dakota, Alaska, and Wyoming. While I support a broad range of learners, I am most passionate about elementary age students. In my experience helping struggling students reach goals and gain confidence makes an incredible impact on their entire educational career. I am passionate about the role of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, walking my dogs, traveling and reading.

I am an actor and a singer with a degree in Spanish and History that I turned into an IT career. For the past decade I've been doing database administration for homeless services and I spent several years as a corporate trainer in tech support.
