I am thrilled to join the Varsity Tutor family! As a recent graduate of Bellarmine University, I earned a B.A. in Philosophy with a minor in Biochemistry, complemented by a pre-med track. Motivated by a passion for continuous learning and teaching, I decided to further my education with a master's degree in biomedical sciences immediately after my undergraduate studies. I deeply value the process of teaching/ tutoring because it offers mutual learning opportunitiesI gain new insights from every interaction. You might be asking yourself, why pursue philosophy, and the short answer is that my academic journey in philosophy has enhanced my ability to apply learned knowledge across diverse fields, particularly in healthcare.

My favorite subject in school has always been science. If there was a class I never wanted to skip, it was always some type of science, and when it came time to choose a college major I already knew I wanted to be a biologist! While learning about all the different aspects of biology, genetics, insects, marine life, and plants were my favorite focus areas. So when I decided to go to grad school it was an easy pick to become an Entomologist! Being any type of scientist requires heavy math, communication, and reading skills, so I have been refining my skills in those areas as I went through college and then grad school.I have also learned how to communicate things in lots of different ways, including sign language (ASL), art (painting and drawing), and presenting online via Zoom. I was hired as a substitute teacher last year as I finished up my degree, so I also learned how to communicate with lots of different aged people! As your tutor, I will work with you and your specific personality to best teach you what I can. I have used a lot of visual representation in the past, as well as having the student talk through the lesson to see if they could teach me the information.I have been to Belize to study marine biology, farms around the US to study insects, and have "been" many places to present via Zoom! I love to meet new people and would love to meet you!
I have taught students in various subjects from Kindergarten to the collegiate level. I have been a private tutor for almost 12 years now. I have a BA in English and a JD, both of which have required me to develop my language and particularly writing skills. I have student taught college Chemistry, and I have written Continued Learning materials for a Continuing Legal Education symposium. I worked as a nanny for over 8 years before I had my own child. I am quite familiar with being around children and encouraging them to grow. I have never had a student under my instruction not succeed, which is an accomplishment I am quite proud of. My students walk away from the classroom understanding the material.
With 14 years of teaching experience I am very familiar with traditional grading as well as standards based grading. My expertise is with Social Studies, with an emphasis on CER (Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning). We can analyze sources and explore their credibility. My goal is to ensure you understand the content before progressing.
Hi, my name is Julia Davis; I am currently attending graduate school at Bellarmine University to receive my Master's in Teaching degree.I am an alumnus of the Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville; I received a full academic scholarship in 2008 and graduated in 2012. After graduating, I began working in the arts community of Louisville as an art educator. I am also a painter; I work by commission and have shown personal work in Louisville, Cincinnati, and Chicago. I am currently illustrating a Children's book.In 2016, I was the operations manager at a local arts education non-profit organization, the Squallis Puppeteers. We would instruct children and adults to create a puppet and tell their own story. We would also perform puppet shows throughout school gymnasiums and various locations. After getting more exposure in school classrooms, I decided to be more involved in education. In 2018, I began to substitute teaching in the Jefferson County Public School system. I started to pick up long term positions and was integrated into training to better my instructional skills. When the pandemic struck, I lost my position for some time and decided to wait no longer. I applied for the graduate program and gained more confidence in developing relationships, trust, and teaching skills. As an educator, I will help guide my students to self-discovery by cultivating their imagination and providing them with engaging experiences.
I have completed 4 years of medical school with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Masters of Science in Physiology and Medicine.
