I am a current graduate student of Southern New Hampshire University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. For the past 18 years, I have taught middle and high school English, grades 7-12. While I have taught a wide range of humanity subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Journalism. It has been my pleasure to support students with reading literature, composition writing, and poetry. It is my honest belief that education allows one to change his or her life circumstances. It provides the opportunity to grow academically as well as socially. It also prepares the learner for real-world experiences through reading and hands-on projects. I understand the struggle some people face when learning math and the negative consequences of not being able to do well in a math course can create. If I can help alleviate the frustration or self-doubt of a student, I have done my job.I have experience working with a wide age range of students from various backgrounds. I have tutored elementary age students, middle school students, high school students, traditional college students, and non-traditional college students. Tutoring at the community college, I come across many individuals from various walks of life and it has allowed me the opportunity to learn more about other cultures and ideals that are different from my own.I received my Bachelors degree and Masters degree in applied mathematics from North Carolina Central University. I currently attend North Carolina State University where I am working on my Ph.D. in mathematics education.I currently tutor elementary mathematics, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, statistics, and pre-Calculus. My favorite subjects to tutor are algebra I and algebra II. I thoroughly enjoyed these topics while in school and algebra is the foundation of high level mathematics. At Northern, I tutored various subjects for two years and grew to love the act of teaching and sharing knowledge. I especially enjoy working on test prep, mathematics and writing as these are, from my point of view, the essential skills towards navigating today's world. I also have extensive background in the higher levels of music theory, which I'm always happy to share. In tutoring, I am very insistent on simplifying and strategizing. I am currently applying to MFA programs and working as a tutor in NYC. I went to Boston University where I studied Mandarin, Political Science, and East Asian Studies. After spending a lot of time in Shanghai and coming back to the US where I worked at a midsize marketing firm, I realized I am really most passionate about literature and reading. I left the marketing world to pursue academia and have been fully immersed in this world of learning and tutoring for over a year. Outside of Varsity Tutors, I also tutor an 11th grade boy several times a week in AP English and AP Biology. Personally, I also enjoy writing fiction, specifically short stories, and I play acoustic guitar.

I majored in Cell Biology and Neuroscience in undergrad & have a lot of experience tutoring several students from elementary school to high school and can teach a variety of subjects! I have been a tutor on varsity for 4+ years and have worked with a wide variety of students. In addition to school help, I would be happy to help high school juniors and seniors with the college application process, especially those who plan on going to medical school at the end of undergrad (resume writing, the common application, essay editing, interview skills, etc)
