I am a current graduate student of Southern New Hampshire University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. For the past 18 years, I have taught middle and high school English, grades 7-12. While I have taught a wide range of humanity subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Journalism. It has been my pleasure to support students with reading literature, composition writing, and poetry. It is my honest belief that education allows one to change his or her life circumstances. It provides the opportunity to grow academically as well as socially. It also prepares the learner for real-world experiences through reading and hands-on projects. I endeavor to support my students' decisions to excel in their academic ventures and I hope to create enjoyable learning opportunities to bridge their intellectual gaps.

Teaching is about passion, not only a passion for the subject but for the desire to impart knowledge on your students that will stick with them for a lifetime and prepare them to be part of a new and evolving future. In those terms, teaching is a process of engaging students and empowering them to pursue their own learning. To accomplish this, a tutor has to wear many hats: that of a mentor, a cheerleader, an expert, and others. Many times in the Physical Science class it can seem like an extension of math, an endless list of numbers of formulas that are just given as absolutes. The truth is that being able to solve problems is much less important than understanding the underlying concepts present. Having an understanding of these concepts will make the mathematical work that is involved much easier. The role of a tutor is to reinforce the instruction of a student's teacher and build up a base of knowledge with the use of real world examples. My teaching style is deeply rooted in the idea that each student is a unique human being who has to be listened to and given adequate attention in order to reach his or her full potential. I believe that every student can learn to appreciate and enjoy even the most difficult subject if their teacher has prepared a lesson in the correct way.

My passion has been math education since I was a freshman in high school. I have always loved math, and I enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm and excitement my math teacher showed during every class. I understand the struggle some people face when learning math and the negative consequences of not being able to do well in a math course can create. If I can help alleviate the frustration or self-doubt of a student, I have done my job.I have experience working with a wide age range of students from various backgrounds. I have tutored elementary age students, middle school students, high school students, traditional college students, and non-traditional college students. Tutoring at the community college, I come across many individuals from various walks of life and it has allowed me the opportunity to learn more about other cultures and ideals that are different from my own.I received my Bachelors degree and Masters degree in applied mathematics from North Carolina Central University. I currently attend North Carolina State University where I am working on my Ph.D. in mathematics education.I currently tutor elementary mathematics, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, statistics, and pre-Calculus. My favorite subjects to tutor are algebra I and algebra II. I thoroughly enjoyed these topics while in school and algebra is the foundation of high level mathematics. If I am able to help someone understand algebra or pre-algebra, they will be on the right path to academic success in upper levels of mathematics. My teaching philosophy is that anyone can learn giving the right tools and support. Regardless of their race, religion, gender, socioeconomic status, or other factors, if an individual truly wants to learn, they can. It is my job as an instructor and tutor to make sure I provide each individual with the skills they need in order to be successful. My tutoring style varies from one student to the next. I realize all students have different learning styles, so I tailor my method to what works best for that particular student.Outside of academia, I love watching Sci-Fi shows (Supernatural, Walking Dead, etc), and listening to music.

ACT Prep Tutor • +18 Subjects
For most of my life, I've been split between the Arts and the Sciences. I recently graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelors in Music, and although I now sing and play flute around the Chicagoland area, I simply couldn't resist also enrolling at Columbia College Chicago to pursue studies in Acoustics. At Northern, I tutored various subjects for two years and grew to love the act of teaching and sharing knowledge. I especially enjoy working on test prep, mathematics and writing as these are, from my point of view, the essential skills towards navigating today's world. I also have extensive background in the higher levels of music theory, which I'm always happy to share. In tutoring, I am very insistent on simplifying and strategizing. There are only so many ways of approaching any given problem - together, we'll work to find the best one.

Hey! My name is Aaryan, and I love to teach. I have experience working with students from the elementary to high school level. My goal is to make sure students receive knowledge that is past the point of memorizing how to solve problems, but understanding the 'why'. Through patience and understanding I believe we can bring the student to new heights.

I am currently applying to MFA programs and working as a tutor in NYC. I went to Boston University where I studied Mandarin, Political Science, and East Asian Studies. After spending a lot of time in Shanghai and coming back to the US where I worked at a midsize marketing firm, I realized I am really most passionate about literature and reading. I left the marketing world to pursue academia and have been fully immersed in this world of learning and tutoring for over a year. Outside of Varsity Tutors, I also tutor an 11th grade boy several times a week in AP English and AP Biology. Personally, I also enjoy writing fiction, specifically short stories, and I play acoustic guitar.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects students across San Antonio's 42 school districts and 624 schools with personalized tutoring support. With over 333,000 students in the San Antonio area, we work with families from SAISD, North East ISD, Northside ISD, and other districts throughout the region to provide customized instruction that fits each student's unique needs.
Texas has specific learning standards across math, reading, science, and social studies that students must master at each grade level. Tutors work with San Antonio students to strengthen foundational skills, build confidence in tested subjects, and develop the critical thinking strategies needed to succeed on STAAR assessments and in the classroom. Personalized instruction allows tutors to focus on the exact areas where each student needs support.
San Antonio students frequently seek support in math (especially algebra and geometry), reading comprehension, and science—subjects that are heavily tested under Texas standards. Many students also benefit from tutoring in English language arts to strengthen writing skills, and in test preparation for STAAR, SAT, and ACT exams. Tutors can also help with Spanish language instruction, a valuable skill in San Antonio's diverse community.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 14.5:1 across San Antonio's school districts, classroom teachers often have limited time for individualized attention. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap by providing dedicated support focused entirely on a student's learning style, pace, and specific challenges—something that's difficult to achieve in a traditional classroom setting.
The first session is designed to build rapport and understand your student's goals, strengths, and areas for improvement. A tutor will assess your student's current knowledge in the subject, discuss what they're working on in school, and create a personalized plan for how tutoring can best support their learning. This foundation helps tutors tailor instruction to match your student's needs from day one.
Yes. While many San Antonio families connect with tutors for math, reading, and science support, tutors also help with subjects like social studies, foreign languages (including Spanish), test preparation, writing skills, and even study strategies. Whatever subject your student is taking in school, Varsity Tutors can help match them with a tutor who has expertise in that area.
San Antonio's 42 school districts each have their own curriculum frameworks and pacing guides, which is why personalized tutoring is so valuable. Tutors work with students from SAISD, North East ISD, Northside ISD, and other districts throughout the area and understand how to support students within their specific district's approach to learning. When you connect with a tutor, you can share details about your student's school and curriculum so instruction aligns perfectly.
Yes. Many San Antonio families use summer tutoring to help students maintain skills over the break, get ahead before the new school year, or catch up on concepts that were challenging during the year. Summer is also a great time for test prep (STAAR, SAT, ACT) or to build confidence in a subject before advancing to the next level. Tutors can work with your schedule to provide flexible support during the summer months.
