I just completed a PhD in Chemistry at Northwestern University. I started teaching in a Big Brother Big Sister program in Florence, Italy in 2006 and fell in love with sharing my knowledge with others. I was the teaching assistant for several chemistry courses at Pepperdine and Northwestern Universities; as well as being involved in Science in the Classroom demonstrations for 3rd and 4th grades. I am eager to share my love of science with students. I am passionate about science and math at all levels and I am a down-to-earth and compassionate teacher. My tutoring style is adapted to each student to focus on the specific areas of improvement. One size does not fit all, so why teach that way! There is nothing better than seeing a student's eyes light up when problems come together, which is partially why I especially love word problems. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and going to art museums. I also try to attend as many ballets as I possibly can every season.

I am a graduate of Hawaii Pacific University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and took 2 1/2 years of science based classes towards a Biology major initially having the goal of becoming a medical doctor. Growing up in Hawaii with parents from Europe and Asia, I've traveled extensively to visit family all around the globe. I worked as a Group Leader at the YMCA supervising a group of 90 kids (ages K-5) and also filled in for professors. My peers always joked that I was "teacher's pet." While I enjoy all things academic, I find learning languages and the culture behind them especially fascinating as they can provide a form of unity. I'm drawn to the ocean having lived in Hawaii, Southern California, and now Palm Beach County. In my free time I enjoy exploring the great outdoors and my guilty pleasure is watching random clips on Youtube while enjoying a good meal.

The English language has always fascinated me. It began when I was young, with my mom reading to me and sharing her own passion for literature. I soon began obsessively reading on my own, and that has continued to this day; I have a collection of over two hundred books that I am very proud of.My interest in reading blossomed naturally into writing. In school, I had to analyze the books I was reading, which made them even more interesting to me. They were saying much more than what was written on the page. Being able to decipher hidden meanings in stories and then articulate my ideas about them in writing made it even more exciting for me.When I began college, I chose English as my major so that I could further my knowledge of literature and hone my skills as a reader and writer. I received my Associate's Degree in English from Gordon State College, and then transferred to Kennesaw State University, where I am currently one semester away from obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in English with two minors: Professional Writing and Film Studies. After my Bachelor's Degree, I plan to pursue a Master's Degree in Professional Writing and, perhaps after that, a PhD in Linguistics.During my time at KSU, I have become much more interested in creative writing. I have written several short stories, both fiction and nonfiction, although fiction is my favorite. I have also become interested in the Film and Television industries. My fascination with analyzing literature has grown to include analyzing films and TV, as well. I have begun screenwriting and I hope to one day work for a network as a TV screenwriter. I spend much of my time watching TV shows and movies on Netflix, but I think of it more as research for my future career than leisure, although it is a little bit of both.At KSU, I am also a Writing Assistant at the Writing Center. This is where I began tutoring. I work with members of the KSU community with anything writing related. Through the Writing Center, I have received many opportunities to travel to conferences to discuss writing, my research, and Writing Centers themselves. I have also been given the opportunity to lead a group of young creative writers and teach them the fundamentals of creating a story. With this job at the Writing Center, as well as with working with Varsity Tutors, I found a way to use what I am passionate about to help others.My experience, both personal, academic, and professional, have given me an extensive knowledge of the English language, including the technical aspects of grammar and style. As a tutor, I would like to disseminate this knowledge and teach students the valuable skills needed to independently obtain knowledge, create concepts, and build new ideas on those fundamental concepts. I graduated as a University Scholar and pre-med student from New York University with a major in Psychology and minors in Physics, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Chemistry. Having excelled in Psychology and its research, I am a member of the International Honor Society in Psychology; hence, I am well qualified to teach this subject. Because I am passionate about reading and writing, both creatively and academically, I have excelled in the Critical Reading and Writing sections of the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and MCAT and have often tutored peers facing difficulties in these areas. Although I struggled with Physics in high school, I approached it differently at NYU, was extremely intrigued by it, and decided to pursue a minor in it.This is the same kind of change I would like to bring about in my students through effective communication and personalized learning styles. There is no universal way to study, and understanding how a student learns new a concept is imperative to obtaining success in any field. Because I recently graduated, I understand the stress students have managing their busy schedules, extracurricular activities, and studying for standardized exams, all while maintaining a solid GPA. I fall under the fight category.I am a first-generation college student, who worked vigorously to get where I am today. Most expected me to fall like generations before me, which drove me to excel. With hard work and dedication, I obtained my bachelor's in elementary education from Howard Payne University, surpassed my own goals, and became a responsible citizen, role model, and teacher to the younger generations.As an elementary teacher, I have been able to help young children develop social skills and positive learning habits in an enthusiastic, stimulating, and positive classroom environment. As an elementary educator, I have fostered the social and intellectual development of students, in hopes that one day, they too will also become a responsible community member.As most do, I grew older, married, and had children of my own. Upon having my son, he developed a medical condition which lead to multiple years in the Dell Children's Hospital, several specialist visits, and even more doctor visits. It was then that I realized that while I loved being in the classroom, I wanted to do more for children and build on my existing knowledge of the toddler and adolescent age group. Thus, I decided to pursue a second degree in Pediatric Nursing. In all, I have a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education, a General Studies degree, an Associate of Science degree, and I am currently working on my Doctorate of Nursing in Pediatrics.School was never easy for me, thus I had to find different learning styles for myself. This allowed me to better understand that while we are all working towards an educational goal, the learning styles we use to get there are very different. I graduated summa cum laude, and was nominated to the prestigious Order of the Coif upon graduation.I passed both the Florida and Multistate Bar Exams after less than one month of self-preparation and practiced as a commercial litigator for three years before turning my attention to LSAT, law school, and Bar tutoring. Our LORD instructed every one of us to "seek first his kingdom and righteousness" (Matthew 6:33). Some of my favorite Scriptures include Philippians 4:13, Colossians 3:23, and Ephesians 2:10.

I received my BS from NYU in General Business and my Masters in International Marketing from NYU Stern. I have taken additional graduate level accounting courses and successfully completed 5 courses towards my teaching certificate at Felician. I have tutored English for Literacy Volunteers, trained bookkeeper and salespeople on the job. I have done some substitute teaching and have taught public speaking and leadership to the Jaycees.Currently I am tutoring ESL, reading and accounting. My favorite of these subjects is English and then reading. I emphasize how one has to have the vocabulary and how to use it. When someone doesn't understand me it is usually because I have not explained myself or because I failed to observe that the other person didn't register my message.I'll be there for you. We'll work together according to your learning style. I want you to feel comfortable and enjoy our sessions. Most of all I want you to succeed in your studies and in life. By the way, I am not overly serious and like to create a relaxed but effective atmosphere.
